How Shall The Ark Come To Me 4/25/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris2 Samuel 6:1-23 KJV
1 Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.
3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart.
4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark.
5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
6 And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
8 And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.
9 And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?
10 So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.
11 And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.
12 And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
13 And it was so, that when they that bare the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
14 And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.
15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
16 And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.
20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.
23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.
Who is afraid of God? The fear of God is not in our land if all the believers only see the love of God. The love of God of his Son to be sent to man to save the world of their sin. Yet Jesus had not been born in the flesh at the time of King David and he was bring the ark back to Jerusalem, where one day his son Solomon would build the temple. David knew God from the warrior win meaning exactly that he was more or less usually on the winning side of battle, on the winning of side of triumph over his foes. Though at times the battle was fierce, rough and stormy, it meant he had to trust in the loving God for his protection. He knew this God in the sheep field, he knew this God when he wrestle a huge bear as a child or lion in his youth. He knew what it meant to be a warrior and to have God on his side. Yet on the day he brought the ark into Uzzah barn, Uzzah touch the ark not so much out of disrespect but thinking the ark was going to topple off the cart. It was a sin to touch the ark. Uzzah a man by his one act displeased the Lord. When Uzzah died, there became a breach a division between David and Uzzah kin that day. A sin not of David actions, but of Uzzah. The law of do not touch the ark did exist even when traveling with the ark of the covenant all the way back to the time of Exodus. Surprising anything made of wood was still in existence, but it was. It was by the power of God.
David seen the one act and it caused him fear, fear of the sin of his own life that could cause his own death. One act of displeasing the Lord. Then the ark had one more stop before going to Jerusalem and nothing happened four three months it remain there, and the home was blessed by the arks coming. David stop and made a sacrifice before going on his journey into Jerusalem and with the sacrifice David dance what some would consider undignified in his linen garments. We got to remember David still a shepherd boy at heart and in the open field he would of probably worn a breach cloth and ran half naked among the sheep. Playing his harp and dancing in the fields without thinking about his attire before the Lord. He came before the Lord undignified not because of his desire to embarass but to be free in his worship as he did in his youth before the Lord. In comfort of his attire. Michal the daughter of King Saul and wife of King David had correct the king on the matter of his attire for she had watched from the window of her room. King David never went to her again and she never bore any children.
The fear in David heart makes wonder why David was worshipping God undignified, until we get the picture of David love for God. David fear was a reverent fear toward God. He knew to respect God something maybe even learned in his youth, but he was a great king now and the reality that he even stood in the presents of God set him into the worship mode of his youth, when he truly loved God and adore his Heavenly Father. Sung in the open field, dancing and playing his harp to the Lord.
The impact of others how we worship needs to be put on hold. If our worship is from the heart then that what God desires in us and not the worship of who is around and who not understanding the mode of worship. If God can keep the ark upright traveling over a rough patch in the road without our help, do you not think he can keep it moving forward on his own. Our fear of God should be in his ability to keep the ark steady as she goes, despite the cart that seems to not be able to handle the situation. It is not the cart problem to stay steady it is God problem to keep the ark moving forward in Triumph over his foes and into the place of safety for the night. When we think God needs our help to steady things we need to think again. The other night I had to make a phone call for a neighbor because of his headlights were left on, and neighbor said don't worry about the problem it will take care of itself. The next day there was a knock on the door my car needs a boost. In truth why worry it will run just give it a push I said. It will roll off the hill. When it rolled it went right off hill but crashed because power brakes would not stop it. Oh if it only been one them old stick shift cars it would of stopped on a dime.
It is life one might think they know how to solve the problem in truth, somethings need to take a hand of God and not the hand of man. We want to prove we know what right or have sound solutions, but sometimes what we do makes things worse. Michal understood not the worship of David and she tried to fix the problem she seen of how David presented himself before the tribe of Israel, but her meddling only caused a breach between her and David. David in this chapter had two breaches, one because a man thought God's ark needed help and the other because his wife thought he needed help. Our leaders like free thinkers, people with maybe a new idea, but never get it in your head you have the solution. I have no solutions, I can see the folly sometimes but not how to fix it. When we worship God do not worry about how it effects others just obey the Lord. Obey the love in your heart and worship freely in the openness of his kingdom. In corporate worship sometimes you can not worship as freely as you like, but in the home, outside nothing can stop you from praising the Lord. Do you fear God or man more. if you fear what man will think or do you will submit to the will of man, before God. Trust God he is your helper and your Lord, He knows what is best and how to solve the issues at hand in your life, He will steady your road.
Dear Heavenly Father, David fear caused him to worship you more because of who you are, but his worship came from his heart. Help us to close eyes to those around us and worship you, because of who you are, In Jesus precious name, Amen.
