Holy Spirit Coming Part II 4/23/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 2:5-21 KJV
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
I love a good time of rejoicing in faith, singing the songs of faith and hearing the testimonies of faith. Yet I struggle with the truth I see hidden in the word of God against experience only to know God's purpose is clear in explaining certain things about faith that are hidden to the minister and people that only got the good feeling vibe going in their spirit. God is more then a good feel vibe. Our emotions are not God, but how our human spirit soars in jubilation of faith. Our own emotions that we keep in certain situations in check. We do not deny it when we alone or in a group that is jubliant in faith, why because this is all they may know how to express their faith with joy and excitment, and faith is not a rock concert or rap concert, or any kind of concert, but a time of worshipping who God (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit) who is worthy to be praised. If you stuck in a charimatic environment and only seem to be leaning on your emotions, pick up your Bible and read it, study it, know it for yourself do not rely on a movement of excitement of faith to hold you up in your faith. Jesus must become the center of your heart, the one that sits on the throne of your heart and the Holy Spirit teaches from the word that he writes on your heart. Some of the kindest people are in these movements and even Bible studiers themselves. The emotion service will not hold you in faith to the next Sunday or next week. These times of blessings are great, but they are not meant to be remained in to continue in the work of faith. What I saying the rejoicing is something needed, it a time when focus is on God in praise, but without the word of God transforming our spirit through his word, one's desire for sin will continue even as believers.
Worship is not a contesting of who is more spiritually minded by tongues, prophesy, teaching, preaching and so forth. Running the pews better be because of excitement in the Spirit. The aerobatics of the church world better be expression of faith and not death defying moment of stunts. There enough persecution in the world for the death defying moment to be with the gun pointed at your head, or the rope hung around one's neck as one confesses Jesus is Lord to God's glory. Let's not leave out the bullying of believers as well. There is enough in our world that believers must contend with that the show is not needed as a sign of spirituality. The actions of faith displayed in a show should be to express joy illumination and continual joy not spun out of control to the point people are afraid to kneel at the pew or altar in prayer of repentance and thanksgiving. If you never seen a service out of control you never seen the stunts of those still not understanding or still learning God's word.
When I speak of languages how many were present on the day of Pentecost. About seventeen languages were present and they heard the wonderful works of God. That alot of languages to think about in one assembly on the day of Pentecost and some were merely traveling through Jerusalem at that time. The fever of what Peter spoke would go forth and not only meditated on but spread like a babbling brook or is better said the book. Why would groups in the New Testament receiving the Holy Spirit with one preaching by the apostles in their journey, the knowledge came from scrolls of Old Testament and story telling going on in the world that people believed by faith in God already, and yet still needing a teacher not knowing about the Comforter that was to come. This would also spread and joy without books, without letters without scrolls would continue in praise and honor to God and missionaries knowing scripture would spread the Gospel of truth, and teach, and people would repeat all they heard and knew to even each other even around the cooking fire. How many languages was the spreading of the gospel at least 17 that I counted, maybe more because Jews and prostylete jews would of been from other areas as well, maybe more then Hebrew known to this very group of people.
Remember there were those in Old Testament time of Ezekiel that were messengers of the government speaking in their language as well as the governmental language as Babylon took over many tribes and nations. It is like America or even Russia, or Europe sweeping through the land teaching in the language of the people and teaching certain people there language to help the people. In America our nation is made of many languages and some of us only know one language not counting the language course one took in high school. If I spoke to a french person today I could tell them I do not speak french in their language but I guarantee if they are smart they know I speak a little french but not well. Maybe more then I say. Many know a second language that is even in english in America, and elsewhere. The many languages being different in word of what is spoken in the home, school or work environment or groups of people. Church people use church words and are not necessarily fluent in the world around them their language based on socialization of the church in their communites and who they segregate to even if working in the public world.
Every group is segregated in language but it does not mean others do not understand. It the language of their peers group. Now let me continue what is spoke on the day of Pentecost was the wonderful works of God, the message out of Prophet Joel and the events just taken place over a month ago in relationship to the cross, for forty days past between the resurrection and a little more time less then a week for the day of Pentecost to occur. Yet the coming of the Holy Spirit was to help spread God's word to the people of who he is, and was and who he can be in their life if they would believe and repent of their sins. No sacrifice necessary because the sin debt paid through the cross at Calvary. Yet some would hear and some would believe and some would be baptized. Yet the moment of hearing it all in one's own language was a mystery and those not understanding though the men were drunk and just babbling and they were not. They also thought these men were uneducated by world's standards it was true. Yet by faith their teacher was Jesus, their teacher was from the world of languages from their trade and were they lived even. For many of these disciples lived among the gentile community.
As Peter preached out of Prophet Joel telling of the sun darkening and so forth , they might of reflected on that fact there was eclipse at the time of the cross. Was not the sky darkened over the known world. These events used to signify who Jews and Rome crucified on the cross by recounting events marked by prophet Joel to come in the form of prophecy. The world would know that He had walked among them and Israel would not be ashamed. Remember as Peter preached people got saved. All they had to do was call on the name of the Lord to be saved. Their shame taken for all that would believe. If faith is built on emotions and jubilation and not the word of God talk to God confess any errors you made to him, he will forgive you. God is not mocked, nor is our joy out of line but our actions in our joy to impress, to control is not of God. I seen it in the church world and I desire more of God's word with joy being the benefit of grabbing hold of his word and sinking one teeth into it chewing swallowing, being correct and being taught then the good vibe feeling that has no true meaning in the world of true faith. Nothing wrong with joy, expression, or jubilation but something wrong if it all a side show in the church. When Scripture does not back it think on it, meditate on the word of God for the answer. Holy Spirit is the teaching of all believers and this day of Pentecost should be joy in the camp because our Savior lives and the Comforter has come. David danced before the Lord when the ark was brought into the city. His jubilation because he loved the Lord. Let us be a little more dignified then David was in his underwear, but let us dance before with sackcloth and ashes repenting of sin and rejoicing at his forgiveness of our sin.
Dear Heavenly Father, speak to the hearts of your people the importance of your word and the teaching of the Holy Spirit through the word, and spreading out into the world the truth of who Jesus is and his Spirit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Joel 2:27-32 KJV
27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
