Feed My Lambs 4/20/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 21:15-25 KJV
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
Jesus said to feed my lamb to Peter and to feed his sheep twice. The lambs were the children of the world or the babes in Christ and the sheep were the mature or aged sheep the followers of Christ. The the second sheep were the whole heard of sheep lambs and sheep. What do you feed followers of Christ but the milk and meat of the word. Peter would be crucified for the fact people no longer wanted to hear God's word. It is a a fact. He would hang upside on a cross for preaching the Gospel of Jesus. He asked to be hung upside because he felt unworthy to hang the same way Christ did on the cross. Peter had been fishing when Jesus began to speak to Peter and his men as they sat on the beach, he instructed them to feed the sheep. It is the duty of every believer to feed and teach the others about God the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is the word of God(John1:1-14) and the word is powerful sword to the soul of man. Yet it must come by the Spirit of God and not the power of man. It matters not your career or your lifestyle as a believer you have a responsibility to do one thing allow God's word to change you by his Spirit, and to teach what the word fo God says to others. Not every pulpit is a in a sanctuary of a church. People can encourage others with the word of God in their work place, and share the hope when it does not interfer with the duties at hand. Some places frown on evanglism so be respectful and use your time to share when it not interfering with the actually duties of the job. It means you need to pray silently. Your going to be using your voice to minister as God's leads in those situations. If in a Christian work place you should be able to share the Gospel with no problem. I did some volunteer work one year and did more preaching then I did work. I would of gone back but my eyes failed. There is a point. God wants everyone to be a part of evanglism in our world today that is a believer in Christ. How we do it means we need be praying that as believers we will be a light to those around us.
Jesus said to go ye therefore and make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. He said this in Matthew, and Mark at the end of their books. He taught on the road of his ministry. He taught has he spoke to the people in parables, he spoke Old Testament to the people teaching God's word. Many of his parables related to Old Testament teachings. Whether you are a politician, business man/woman, work in fast food or restruant waiting tables, factory, or even road work it doesn't matter, you can share Christ. The truck drive is able to share Christ too, his is more evanglism type of ministry because of his constant on the go. The person on thestreet or the poor person online can share Christ. You need no money to share Jesus. It is the one Spirit of God teaching that we are to have love, faith and hope.
Part of faith is allowing God to clean us up. To get clean we jump in the shower and the water pours over us, to get saved we take a leap of faith and allow God to shower and cleanse us through his word. It does not matter how smart you are, what race you are, who you are, Christ died for you. He died for our benefit, to show us even when we fail to share his love and light he will spring up and rise again through his word. That He will by His Spirit bring forth love and forgiveness. The hope of eternal life comes with the rising of the word of God through Christ Jesus own resurrection through faith in him. Faith being key in our part of the process.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for sharing your word with us. Calling us to teach the lambs and sheep. Teaching us the importance of going forth, but also teaching to go forth in the world sharing, no matter our workplace or lifestyle. That we all can share your word, because you call your people to go forth and make disciples. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
