Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMark 14:32-41 KJV
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Luke 22:39-46 KJV
39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
The struggle of the soul and the struggle of obedience is a human trait. Not a god trait. When we see Christ kneeling and praying not my will but thine Lord and sweating drops of blood because of the stress of what laid ahead, one must understand Jesus is giving example of our prayer in difficult time, in a time when we know our own judgment might be at hand, but not only our judgment but the struggle in the storm of life because of events we are apart of, or events to unfold. To surrender one's soul in the battle of obedience and carrying out the call of obedience of faith is hard. one must remember Jesus could of called 10000 angels to rescue him from the storm, yet that not what going to happen, he would face the judges of events and they would take an crucify him on the cross. Meaning the Sanhendrin(Jewish court), the Roman leaders of his time(Herod, and Pilot) and the crowd would judge him. It like desiring to save oneself in the heat of what is to come and yet not stepping off the gang plank yet of the Pirate ship one finds oneself standing on. You know when you walk the plank, you either learn to swim quickly or you drown. You know if the pirate pushes you off, that you done for, and if he cuts the board to make you fall, you are in need of help. If you tied by ropes you will sink for sure. it the knowledge of knowing there is no turning back. Jesus knew the minute his prayer was done, he would be waking his disciples, because he soon would be arrested and betrayed by Judas according to the Father's will.
God was not going to spare his own Son from the judgment of the world. God will was not for Christ to suffer, but through suffering man might see the cost of his Son/his word to their disobedience to his word. The cost of obedience of faith in him. We are not Christ but Christ demonstrated his love for us in the storm he prayed not his will but God's will be done. As believer we see Christ sorrow as he prayed, as he moved away from his disciples to seek his Father's will to be done. The need of the believer when going through trial through judgment caused by the world. To exam the mess that caused the judgment to be on our shoulders. Jesus being God in the flesh is not guilty of sin here, but if it be us we be guilty of claiming to be something we are not. To make the division of Jesus humanity and the reality of who he is here is necessary to understanding the will of God to move forward for the crime he accused of as being King of the Jews which he was, and the trouble of cleaning of the temple, causing the insurrection where a man was killed. Yet he did not kill. He was guiltless of the murder and never charged for the insurrection. Only charge for being king.
We see many things of the agony over his choice of obedience to God the Father, because it went against who he was as Son of God and equal to him full of grace and truth. Agony because his life could not be spared but instead his Father wanted him to go through the trial and punishment of his accusers. Jesus was strength by angel. This moment of solitude with his companion asleep and ignorant of what was to come. His struggle of removing the cup of great price, or accepting the cup to feel the pain and to still say in human flesh while dying, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do". To forgive despite the torment of the beating, the mocking, the beard pulling and the cross. Still able to say in his suffering as a example to us to forgive even still.
His knowledge great but all for our benefit to know we will suffer for our faith and need to pray not our will but the will of the Father full of grace and truth. To stand in judgment of your peers and say Father forgive them. Jesus in the flesh was a man, but his Soul was the only begotten Son of God, the very word of God and that something you and i will never be able to claim even as children of God, because we can speak and teach God's word but our own will is something we will wrestle with and our obedience to God when it comes to how we live. Our choice and true desire made upon day of salvation, but the temptation still remain because of the world we live in. The battle to obey is something we start learning from early age. Our prayer needs to be not our will, but God's will be done in all circumstance in our life.
Dear Heavenly Father not by the will of man but the will of God you allowed your Son to suffer for us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Forgiving us as he died, forgiving us upon our asking. Forgiving us of our not understanding who he was or the purpose he came. Father teach us to forgive as you forgave each of us to be testimony of the forgiveness you have for each of us. Father we thank and praise you for the ability to forgive us our sin, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
