The Baptism Preparation 4/04/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 13:1-38 KJV
1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
Mark 14:17-26 KJV
17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Difference in needing one's foot washed and the entire body cleansed, might rest in this chapter John on whether you are Peter or Judas? Yet in reality, the knowledge of Judas uncleanses is not address beyond Satan enter him. Jesus washed all twelve disciples feet. Feet washing was a custom carried out to all that came in the door of people's houses. Yet it was not always practiced. It was usually give to the servant of the house, and this one instance Jesus served his disciples and yet Peter objected and offered to clean Jesus' feet, and Jesus said, "Peter, you need to allow me to clean your feet or you have no part of me". Peter said his head and his hands as well. Jesus tells him he needs not a bath. Only the feet that are dirty.
Now remember a few days back the anoint at Bethany by Mary as she pour perfumer on his feet and dried his feet with her hair for the anointing of the burial of Jesus. He rebuke Judas then, but this time, he became humble as a servant washing the disciple feet, knowing Judas was going to betray him. The master was not greater then his servant. Yet we know Jesus was more then a mere man. Meaning his servanthood here is example of how we need to serve others. Yet it is also a preparation for those that were anointed to be buried with him in baptism. Baptism is not just being immersed in water, or sprinkled it has to do with teaching and education as well. Disciples were clean from the act of sin in the temple, they were not dirty beyond being witness to the fact of the cleansing of the temple, which was not a crime to God. but this baptism was baptism of the world of what they do to people who obey God above the law of man. Obey God and his word was crime when it effect money changers and caused a death. Christ did not have to kill for the crime to be done, it was caused by the event that he started because the money changers were making his Father's house a den of theives. Christ was baptizing his disciples of the cost of obeying God and his will. Baptizing them in the knowledge of what would happen. These things were not common in the time of Roman at the time of Christ. It not that these things had not happened; example Daniel and the lion's den but the disciples were getting ready to face the hardcore truth of what it might cost them to follow Jesus. Jesus was going to serve them his body and his blood on the cross by the will of the Father.
Judas by taking the bread sopped in the wine a symbol of friendship was also baptized in the ways of devil who enter him to make sure he betrayed Jesus as instructed by Satan to do, because of the lust and greed in heart called sin. He was still angry over the anointing of Jesus for burial. Yet Judas would be the betrayer because the money for the perfume could of been given to the poor and line his pockets at the same time.
To get Jesus to the cross, God had allowed the devil to cause Judas to betray Jesus' location for his arrest without the awareness of the majority of the crowd. As soon has he went to trial and was seen in handcuffs it would not matter who this man was, they would all shout crucify, following those that sought to have him killed which were the religious leaders for a crime he did not do in the temple. The miracles and teaching in the temple matter not as the crowd would shout crucify.
This is much like saying you said you could build the temple in three days, okay, let's see you raise yourself back up. Let us see you stop our actions of betrayal against you. The Chief Priest desiring everything to protect his son, though this not clear in scripture. The family unit being broken down in the temple, though Jesus himself was also part of the priesthood and the kingly line. Meaning Jesus being family was uncasted because of his backtalking ways and insults of religious leaders, though he spoke the truth. And gotten the High Priest son in trouble which he may have been in anyway for his crimes did also exclude theft not just murder in the insurrection.
Yet at the passover all we see is the servanthood of Jesus, the man that would betray him leaving, and Peter, one of his belowed disciples, facing a similiar baptism of faith as Judas, yet his was out fear, not for the love of money, but the love of Christ he would have fought for him, but landed up denying him because of fear, for the rooster was going to crow three times as he denied Jesus three times. Jesus told him this would happen. All would need to forsake Jesus for him to pay the price for our sin. Peter would repent to God, but Judas never find forgiveness.
We see Jesus talking through the bread and the wine, of the baptism that Jesus wanted them to remember that he did for them. Though they understood not his command they made a mental note and would follow through with it as they gather with other believers, they would break the bread and drink the wine. Where is bread and wine in John it is not, but it is Matthew, Mark and Luke. which I post parts or all account from each Four Gospel's in both the above scripture and the Continual Scripture Study section of this devotion. Taking time to at the minimum read, thought there be some repetition there are some differences.
Dear Heavenly Father, open our eyes to the baptism of the cross and what it means, to stand for God and take the punishment of mankind and their laws. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
Luke 22:13-34 KJV
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
