Preparation

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 22:7-12 KJV
7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

The preparation of a large meal with twelve disciples. Was there anyone else there, apparently not for this feast. I would of thought the woman were in the upper room too, but when I think on it the story of the last supper does seem to have only the presents of the twelve disciples that would go down to being only eleven when Judas leaves the table to betray Jesus. The preparation of unleavened bread is the first and second day of passover the third day the lamb is to be sacrificed. Jesus is our passover Lamb. I suggest everyone take time to read the passage quoted from Mattthew in the continual scripture study today. The reason being is this one passage reruns some of what we been over but puts in chronological order of events. Is this important to just a reader no, to a detective maybe and to studier of the word of God definitely important in regards to preparation for the crucifixion. Today we focus on the preparation of the feast of unleavened bread when the passover must e killed. This meal had to be prepared inside Jerusalem. The orders for the sacrifice would be made within the city walls of Jerusalem. By the tradition of the sacrificial lamb would be slain on the altar in Jerusalem. Yet Christ would be crucified outside the city as sin offering to the Lord, The sacrifice being remove and killed outside the city. Did the Jews inside the city understand these events, I suspect not til much later. Those wanting to dig into the sacrifices for passover I suggest you do some searching and some digging into these events by tradition. It was annual tradition. The sacrifice of man not a normal event. Not a normal cross of the people in regards to human life being sacrificed for sin instead of a lamb, goat or bull. When related to the sacrifice it had to be more then these events to follow.

The passover a symbol of the time of when the Jews painted the door facings of their houses with blood and the death angel passed by and only killed the first born of Egypt. The lamb blood being the covering and protection of God's people no matter who was behind the doorpost they would be saved. The last plague in Exodus story before they leave to go into the wilderness. Jesus would be outside the house on the night of his betrayal, in the garden with his disciples. Still under the old covenant but he would be the sacrifice for the new covenant. Believers would give of themselves for those who were lost, by being the witness to the people outside the house, both Jew and Gentile.

There is much by tradition of the church we except without complete understanding of the cross of Jesus. Jesus begins to prepare his disciples for his death long before passover supper and the betrayal in the garden. Why should not the Feast of Unleaven bread to passover be prepared for his disciples. Jesus knew who would be in the city fetching water when the two disciples Peter and John approached and ask if the man had a large upper room to which their Lord and his disciples would have their feast. The person chosen by God long before the feast day came. Long before the disciples were walking into Jerusalem to set up the for the feast. God preplanned for this event the things that would be done even to the last three meals with his disciples. Bible does not record all three days in fact it skips to the last supper. Our focus is on God's preparation for the final days and for the events to follow. God's preparation, something we can not fully grasp why God would allow his own Son to die in another man's place or even our place. Yet Christ would die for the sins of the world.

God preparing the hearts and the minds of even the beloved disciples. God preparing John to be substitution to his mother fo him, and Peter denial with the rooster crow being three times, as Christ went before the council that night of his betrayal. Peter in no position to stand and protect Jesus as he stood on trial before the Jewish religious court(Sanhendrin). What I am writitng about coming events prepare you all for the days ahead during the week of passover. I am not God.

Yet Jesus prepared and even prophesied events to come as God the Son. The feast was not the only thing that was prepared for. It was only the third sign of what laid ahead for the disciples. First sign the Triumphal entry, the second sign the anointing at Bethany, and the third sign being the preparation of the upper room. In between these signs was the prophesy of the religious leaders desire to take Jesus by force. The secret meeting of Judas of being offered money for the betrayal of Jesus. What we do not see is Barabbas until the time of the cross. Who Barabbas is most likely the high priest son who is said to killed a man at the time of the money tables in the temple as he enter to escape the insurrection in the temple courts of the money tables being over turned. Look it up, research his name. That how you will learn about Barabbas.

All events not understood why the religious leaders anger was in full swing without the knowledge of the fact they looked to kill Jesus or at the minimum imprison him, because of the money that he was taking from them as his fame grew, and more and more events that would happen they were afraid to loose their peace. Most of us watching the news never can imagine the riots in the streets in our own country during the pandemic yet ti seemed almost just in one since and unjust in another. People more afraid of loss of income then afraid of disease that could kill them. People desiring peace rather then war stayed home to keep peace. Watching the news and events across our land. War brings things most are not prepared for. Food shortage, panic, injury, death and more. Lost of work and loss of life. Not many have a years worth of supply built up for such events of war. Food on a war trail would be short and supply through kill of anything found available would run dry. Starvation sets in to a degree in a land of fruit and honey. No the priesthood did not long for their bread and butter to run out. One of the biggest supplies of war in a country that is needed is food and supplies. Kill one man to keep the peace seemed easy enough, so Barabbas was it, no Jesus became the substitution for the High Priest Son.

Preparation for the day of the cross, leaves out the story of Barabbas beyond his imprisonment and telling his judgment against him. Preparation of the feast unleaven bread. Christ being the bread of life, the hope to the world and yet He would be crucified. His blood shed for many. For all that would repent of their sins and follow after Jesus taking up their cross and following him. God began to prepare his people long before the time of Jesus. Long before the time drew near. long before the blinders were removed, God prepared the event for the people to be blinded by the truth.

Disciples enter into Jerusalem with eyes wide open ready for celebration, not ready for celebration they knew what was being plotted, they knew about the death inside the temple of innocent man, and they knew that this time with Christ was important, for the High Priest Son was imprison. This was going to be a big event coming and the tables were turned on Jesus. If Barabbas had died, everything would of continue to the take over the Messiah in Jerusalem, because religious leaders would of fallen at the death of High Priest Son. There would of been a shaken in the world different then with the resurrection, a shift in power perhaps. With the High Priest Son free, Jesus going to the cross the Priesthood thought all would be okay, but it would be the biggest shake up the world had ever seen.

Those times of celebration in our own life when the devil loose and we know it, how many things did God put in place for our protection. Do we rejoice over God's supply. God is the preparer of our pathway for events of victory in our life. Including the return of Jesus. Has a believers of faith, we must cling to the wooden cross knowing the victory of the resurrection in life events will come according to the will of God. God prepares a banquet for us and prepares us for the hardness of the road ahead to where we yield to his will in our life.

Dear Heavenly Father, prepare your table in our hearts and in our minds. In our life knowing you are the protector of your people and when the enemy seems to have defeat us we will rise again. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Matthew 26:1-21 KJV
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

Ephesians 6:13-19 KJV
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
