Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

2 Corinthians 2:12-17 KJV
12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.
14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

If one is a diabetic you may crave sweetness. Most people crave sweet people and not bitter people. As a Christian can we smile when we hurting? Most people can a little. Are we bitter about our situation. Are we bitter about life in general? Why so? If life is only but a moment of time and space on this earth and we bound for the promise land is our joy in Christ not enough to carry us through. I think so. In fact I think when God's people move across the world in love and compassion, and not in bitterness or hate the mountains of sin flee from the earth.

Paul in journey found people that welcome him seen him as having a sweet message of hope. Even the perishing, even the sinful man seen the hope of what Paul spoke. Even the lost welcome Paul in. Each man journey in faith is his own, but to receive Christ must start with knowledge of kindness of believers, the love of believers, and tender wooing of God's Spirit on the soul.

The unbeliever is looking for the sweetness of faith. The sweet aroma, of hope, and faith. Not faith that is bitter. Why be angry at God, God is perserving those love ones we know in our hearts that have gone on before us, we have that message of hope to carry to the next generation of people.

Where is our hope where is our sweetness if we bitter about God. God has a purpose for everything in life and our hope needs to rest in his promise, knowing the unpromise maybe rewarded as well? Think if God's will is to give us good things, to bring us comfort in our distress that common to man, then our hope needs to rely on the goodness and mercy of God through his Son Jesus. People need to see our hope not our failings.

I keep hoping to go to work, and I realize I still have limitations to overcome and it feels like failings and then I look and see how blessed I am. Blessings by what God provides. I am blessed woman, maybe poor, but blessed, with a home, a husband and many aggravating pets. I have water to drink and food to eat. I thank God for these things. But in truth my joy must come in from salvation through Jesus Christ. Material things will come and go, despite how long we try and hold on to somethings.

I remember a woman that broke a precious teacup and she began to cry because of the memories it brought to her. One teacup broken(not mine), but the memory still linger on. We all have precious memories, and the stories of those memories so precious will fade in time. Yet the most precious memory that will never fade is our salvation through Christ Jesus.

Is our faith sweet to our own soul, if not, why? If it has lost it's flavor, then it needs to be examined, but Jesus is all we need into eternity. Our faith should be precious enough to share the memories of our own testimony. What was the the memory of the cup, it was her grandmother's gift to her after marriage. She held in her hand broken looking to see if it could be mended. You know those glued dishes and cups that can never be used again except for decor, often have a legacy. God's greatest legacy to us is his Son. One relationship can be restore to God if one has sinned, one can repent. One can turn away from sin and start allowing God through Christ begin to restore and glue the unhinged parts of our faith. It becomes a testimony of hope to others. A memory of hope to share with others. Let others know you too had to go to the altar and pray, you to had moments of brokeness of faith. Yet God is able to restore to be that testimony of no longer bitterness but hope. For the unbeliever put on that new man of faith, not one of backslidden but one of hope that allows others seeing how Christ is changing you. Not like that cup that can never be used, except for decoration, you can be a vessel worthy of Christ use. Let faith not be just a memory but allow God to heal to restore you.

Dear Heavenly Father in our brokeness heal our memory of our faith, as we turn towards you in our sinfulness, being pushed away in repentance. Heal our hearts of the inward man. Let us be sweet we testimony of sweetness of our hope. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
