Children Of Light

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Ephesians 5:1-21 KJV
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

How to become a sacrifice for God. It does not mean going to the fire or a cross. It does not mean dying physically, but dying spiritual to the things of our desires and wants, and living unto God. Not allowing the fruit of evilness reign in our mortal body. Not allowing the fruit of darkness reign in your body. There is times we have pure evil in our heart, because of wrong done to us. It our mental ability to lash out in thought, but not actually do it, may never come to pass. If a psychologist examine everyone of us, how many would be in a mental ward right now because of ignorance of the human mind and how it works at times. Learning to walk in the love of Christ is more then a mental picture of love, but actually the ability to do so. To love as Christ loved us. Did the disciples nail Jesus to the cross? Eleven did not. The women did not, and their were others as well. Yet the world and religious leaders incited the crowd too crucify Jesus. When we stop there who did Christ continue to minister to after the cross. He was seen by five hundred people the Bible in Corinthians. He taught them before ascending into heaven. No clue why there was not more. It may of been that he traveled away from Jerusalem, and some would only heard the tale of Jesus crucifixion without knowledge of it. However 500 people seen heard and knew of the events around the crucifixion and were taught by Jesus afterwards. Peter preached in Jerusalem he laid a guilt trip on them? No but he told the truth of the cross and resurrection that it convicted those that were in need of repentance, and the church grew on the day of Pentecost.

To walk in love as Christ did forgiving on the cross before his resurrection and coming back alive on the third day with love for his disciples and those that would follow. That is the type of love we all need. That when abused to extreme we can still wake up and still love the next day. To be children that walk in the light of Christ is to walk in his love and his ways. I do not believe a person can accomplish this type of love completely on their own. At first that type of love seems simple enough. In recent years I have to put my own anger aside to love. Yet it hard to do. I talk about forgiveness and sometimes I do believe love conquers all, and yet I do know forgiveness on somethings takes time, because healing of emotion must come as well. Forgiveness being deep within. How Christ can be hanging on the cross and say "Father forgive them", recorded in Luke, that is a miracle. Christ is excusciating pain, he is worn out and dying, with no way of lashing out anger but by God's power he restrains to not condemn us. He turns that condemnation of the wrath of God to love. Remember an earthquake came, the sun darkened, and the world changed. This same love Moses ask God not to kill Israel knowing not they had built the molten calf. God was seeing what we did to his Son, man knew what they did and people including the soldiers mocked Jesus. His disciples sat at the distance watching knowing they could not prevent what was occuring. After God's will placed him on the cross. After all Moses was gone forty days in the wilderness on Mount Sinai, and people assumed him dead. Moses love was no longer kindle but his wrath was such he order the killing all that bowed tot he calf.

What was going through the people's mind as they seen Christ on the cross? Here is the miracle worker but he can not save himself. Here is the man that calmed the storms, but he could not save himself. Yet God's will to allow his death so man could understand his power of resurrection. To allow Christ to die to be raise back up into newness of life, to newness of eternal life. God allow his will to allow his son to suffer and die to give man hope, and knowledge of true forgiveness. As Christ forgave he was he was sacrificed for atonement for you and me.

Day Pentecost came after Christ arose and Christ would ascended forty days later into heaven, and the power of the Holy Spirit descended like flames of fire on the apostles and they were filled not only speaking in different languages that works of God, but miracles also occured. There boldness continued because of these events. If miracles do not spur you on, and events by the Spirit wont spur you on, then where did your hope go. Did you really believe.

Let us start again to walk in the light of Christ is to walk by faith unwavering not like the shifting sand. What going to move you to walk in the light of Christ. Most people desire to have a little good in them, enough they do right even without faith. What going to spur man to walk in faith? God's convicting power by his Spirit. From the day of salvation we are marked by the Holy Spirit. Upon the day you believe in Christ something happened. God marked you. Christ came into your heart. Joy filled your soul. Yet I heard someone say they did not feel anything. I wonder why? Until you receive what Christ has done for you, you might not fully receive that joy either. Does it take time. If you walk in off the street and receive what the pastor is speaking from the pulpit, without knowledge beyond what spoken, you might need more information to get you to the finishline of joy, hope and the love of Christ.

The question is now why? Have you ever received a gift from friend or love one, that you knew you would enjoy for a long time, but felt no joy at the reception of it. It not because anything they did or you did, it like a calm feeling of just acknowledging of receiving it with no excitement. Sometimes we receive Christ gifts with a simple acknowledgement, but only grow excited when we see Christ working through his gifts in us. Maybe growing excited upon growing in Christ and we see not only our life change but the life of others around us. Maybe our joy is in the evidence of faith, as Christ changes our hearts, and heals diseases. Maybe our joy comes with difficult situations where if prayer was not involved, we not sure God would of deliver or the same outcome would not have existed, because God answered pray.

Minister once said why not say don't you realize a man living in your heart. It is true but it more then that joy should be in revelation of what God has done through his Son for us. If the full understanding not there, God going to be giving that person and education just based on simple faith. Who teaches the Holy Spirit. Your not where other believers are, he will get you there when you ready for that place of joy, place of peace and understanding, place to love as he loved us.

Let us rise for light of Christ has risen in our hearts and should be enough joy at that. Let us rise and walk in the light of Christ when the believer understand that darkness is the evil of the world in which we live and light comes through Christ atonement for our sin, to bring a new beginning through his resurrection. Allow the teaching of God's Spirit of what right and wrong to exist in our hearts as we learn to hear and listen to the Holy Spirit, so we know which way light is. For Christ is our light and the Spirit guides us in his footsteps, by the infilling of his Spirit.

Let us not filled with the spirit of darkness, but the Spirit of truth, love, hope, gentleness, meekness and so on and so forth, all one Spirit and the Holy Spirit is God. Our spirit that wrestle against God at times is really in opposition, and sometimes even resides in the believers heart. Yet we must over come that spirit of our self-will and do the will of God. Saying no the things that harm our Spirit, our flesh, our friends and family. Eventually we even learn to love our enemies as ourselves.

One more thing we need to learn too give thanks to God for the joy and hope he brings through Christ, the light of the world. Learning the songs of faith, to make melody in our hearts. Is like a sweet lullayby to sooth the soul even in times of being frustration and even anger. Learn to lean on Jesus despite our own emotions is hard, but learn to lean on Jesus when we can only see the area the light of Christ is shining in and to step beyond, is out of the will of God.

Dear Heavenly Father, fill us with your Spirit and keep us continually filled by your Spirit, living in the light of your word. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
