God's Not In My Storm 10/07/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris1 Kings 19:1-21 KJV
1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thro
wn down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
Is our storm caused by God. First things first, Devil is a created being, King Ahab and his wife worship Baal. Their plot of killing God's prophets were not of God. If we grasp the idea of free will, we can grasp that not every one of our thoughts is of God, and are actions are not always of God. Our humanity of who we are at times fully seen to the naked world we live in. The world being naked and uncovered of their sinful ways. Yet God sees it and his design of destruction is eminent on the wicked. We see the harshness of God's wrath, but he is not in the storm of evil in regards to be the cause of it. Wars are like that, no matter who side you are on, wars cause problems for everyone. The author of some wars has nothing to do with God. I look at the yo yo gas prices and say not of God but of man. I see the yo yo of prices in our stores and say not of God but something God knew would occur because of the willful act of man. That why on the dollar bill it says in God we trust. He might not be in the economic storm, but it in him who we trust to get through the storm. I do believe our political leaders are doing they best they can but in truth they can not control what we do, the global business world does no matter how hard they try. People are likely to do the opposite for whatever reason. The trouble we are in economically in the global market has nothing to do with God, but can God help in the deliverance of the trouble it is causing. Of course God can if we trust in him. Elijah is in fear for his life, was a storm not caused by God. Elijah is acting in fear of the storm not in the will of God and yet in the middle of the storm God provides for him. He had angel to provide a meal for him to nourish him for the journey Elijah was on the run. Elijah was on detour. Detour from the will of God and trusting in God's protection.
Can we trust in God's protection in the storm. The answer is sometimes not, because of our humanity only sees the storm and our mind forgets who child we are for a moment, our human instincts seem greater then our faith at times. Why our faith is human but the one that holds are faith is not human and is able to keep our feet from sliping even when we get off kilter. We need to know God is not in our storm but going to aid us in our humanity, even in our fear. Going to provide what we need to get through our pathway that not of him, because ultimately he as goal of his own for our life. Elijah found himself be told by God to go and anoint the king and a new prophet for Israel. Not the thing the old prophet want to hear completely, until one knows God ushered Elijah up into a fiery chariot into heaven soon after. Our fear a human one but not of God to fear our enemies and those around us that try and stop the spread of God's word. Yet God says the battle is not yours. Elijah storm even after all the works God had done in his life, was still had the issue of fear in his life. Yet God sent him to the mountain, and showed him all kinds of storms he was not a part of. Yet Elijah did not hear God in any of the storms God sent him, he stood of the cleft of a cave and listen and watched. Did he tremble scripture does not say, but he watch the wind whirl past him, earthquake shake and the rocks fall, lightening strikes and fire burn. God was in none of these storms. We had a storm in Puertico, Florida key and Florida State. God's fury, only because he created nature, but it was not the anger of God, though I do not doubt it might of felt that way. If it reminded you of what God's fury might be like then maybe it will help you understand the importance of faith in God. God can help you in the storms of humanity and nature's fury, even if the storm is not of him. God asked Elijah what he was doing here in still small voice.
Elijah was probably now trembling. This storm he just experience coming from his own fear. Much like a child in the storm of nightmare waking to call his parents of the monster that was still under the bed and to afraid to move. Yet the storm was real. Elijah knew his friends were murder by the Queen Jezebel and King Ahab. God told Elijah I got some work for you to do, go anoint the next king and next prophet of Israel because he had 7000 men who had not bow one knee to Baal. The next battle was not Elijah to win. In the story of Jehoshaphat the battle was not his or his people either, they were out flank and out number in comparison, and yet God was fixing to deliver them from their enemies, and told the people that battle was not theirs. The salvation was from the Lord.
Are you in a storm that not of God. Are you fighting a storm that only God can win. Then allow him to fight your battle for you. If God not the author of your storm. Consider asking him to resolve the storm today. Elijah a professional prophet, running from the storm of the devil, and yet God had plans for his life until he took him home to be with him. Elijah stop seeing the storm and saw the hope only God himself could bring. He told Elijah the battle was not his for 7000 men had not bowed to Baal. How foolish Elijah must of felt in his on humility think he was the only prophet, the only testifier of faith left in Israel. He was to anoint that next prophet, and the next king, how the joy must been in his heart he was not alone and the battle was not his but belonged to the Lord.
Dear Heavenly Father, give me hope and give me peace, the battle not mine. It belongs to the Lord. God's will be done in the battles of our world that has nothing to do with the work of God. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

12 O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
13 And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
