The Sound Of The Trumpet 11/30/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisNumbers 10:1-13 KJV
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.
3 And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
4 And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.
5 When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward.
6 When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.
7 But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.
8 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.
9 And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.
11 And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.
12 And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.
13 And they first took their journey according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
Have you ever seen the pictures of the angels with the trumpets at Christmas. One does not see as many as in seasons past. In fact the idea of the sound of the trumpet seems like a waste of time when one is trying to sneak up on your enemy, but God wanted his enemies to know that he was waging war, that is people were journeying and not to bother them. He was clearing the road for his people to go onward and forward. The sound of the bugle call when a soldier is laid to rest, only speaks of his battle in life is over. The sound of war going forward only warns the enemy that we coming towards them. God is not a God to leave us in the grave but to sound the call for the soldiers of faith with last trumpet call the dead in Christ will rise first. I do not know if there was a sound in the land on the day of Christ birth of the trumpet, but I know the sound of the angels the night of birth was heard through the fields of the shepherds and the brightness of the star of his birth shine ever so brightly leading the wise men from afar. No trumpet sounded at the call of peace, no trumpet sounded at the battle cry of love, no trumpet sound of the Savior journey, but the trumpet will sound at the call of judgment of Christ return.
Israel was given the trumpet sound to lead the people forward in their journey, a signal of war through out the land to be heard by all, and a sound of their enemies being scattered before them. The trumpet call of the time when burnt offering and peace offering were given by Israel. Yet the trumpet was to sound only an alarm in battle or the alarm for the journey to begin. We can understand there are different sounds of the trumpet to be made known what it is being blown for, whether to lead the charge or to lead into battle. Whether to announce the offerings unto the Lord is being given, that Israel can bow before the Lord in humbleness and praise. Israel was going to be going into the promise land without Moses, but Moses would be going back to his people that he married into. He would be going back to the Midianites with a story about Israel journey to the promise land and the sound of the trumpets when the went to enter into the promise land. His one sin keeping him outside the camp. The rock was struck twice in anger. Moses had seen the promise of the Lord as he spoke and talked to him in the wilderness, he did not need any more hope or the earthly promise to know of his journey homeward would come.
Where are you in your journey do you hear the trumpet in times of war, times of peace, times of only journey when you enemies before you are scattered. Do you see the call of God before you leading you forward or only see the journey past that gives you hope? The journey never stopped at the promise land for Moses, but continued as he retold the story to his wife's people. Though scripture never tells that part of him going and retelling, we know Midians carried along with the Moabites the story of the star to come. That story is found in Number 24:17. Moses journey at the present in this story In Numbers 10 was to lead the people to the promise land. When Christ returns there will be a trumpet sound a sound that say come home people, and a call to final battle of judgment. A call for the saints of God and call to the enemy for destruction. Are you ready for the call to go home. Are you ready for the sound of the trumpet that says a new journey is ahead of you in the land of promise.
Dear Heavenly Father, remind us of the sound we all long as believers to hear the cry of the journey to come with you in New Jerusalem. Remind us: Your's and our enemies will not only be scattered but defeat by the sound of the trumpet to come. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Numbers 10:28-36 KJV
28 Thus were the journeyings of the children of Israel according to their armies, when they set forward.
29 And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses' father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good: for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.
30 And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.
31 And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.
32 And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.
33 And they departed from the mount of the LORD three days' journey: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days' journey, to search out a resting place for them.
34 And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, when they went out of the camp.
35 And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.
36 And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the many thousands of Israel.
1 Corinthians 14:8 KJV
8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
1 Corinthians 15:52 KJV
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
