Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Psalm 27:1-14 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.
9 Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.
11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

David was young in the fields of his father singing songs on his harp about the Lord, and trusting in the Lord long before he became king. His faith instilled from his childhood and into adulthood. His decision based on not his fear of the Lord but His love of the Lord. Fear in knowing the power of the Lord was probably also in his heart and mind, for he reverence God and never departed from God's ways, though he was not a perfect man. Josiah in the continual scripture study was eight years old when he began to reign in Jerusalem. I can not help but say this sounds like Josiah was to young to be king. How impressionable is young people in the word of God. Yet as adult I thank God everyday for parents that made sure i at least heard the word of God. They did not try and control any decision I made concerning my beliefs in God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit). I am one of those people that do not expect you to conform to my view, but to hear my view or to at least read scripture to understand my view, if you want to hear it, because my faith in God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is important to me. If you do not want to listen that your decision not one I take away from you. Why is this information important for my readers, there be times you will disagree with me on something because of a verse in scripture I may of overlooked, or forgotten about. Is that okay, yes. If you go from one end of the Bible to the next it all lines up, but no one can remember it all. It that constant weaving from Old to Old, New to New and Old to New Testament that helps clarify the full meaning of God's word. We are all learning though I know a lot about scripture, it does not mean I can't learn something new. To teach is to be a student, to be student means one might not be a teacher or one yet. Yet you can only teach what you know and understand or what God's Spirit directs you to teach.

These men of old were children doing what we consider today adult work. In our world today to have an 8 year old leader seems impossible. Why mention this, there are people groomed in politics, religion and so forth, but not just faiths politics as well. It is normal for children to follow in their parent's footsteps. Politicians are often groomed by some groups or groomed through their parents and leaders, and other are chosen by God and taught only by God. Is there any position that better taught by another person then a family member. I believe so. One needs to be taught by the Holy Spirit to truly learn to obey God's words. I believe having a diversity of teachers for politics, or any carrer choice is better then being taught by only one person. To learn diversity of some skills is knowledge, but to learn to follow instructions or laws must come from early childhood into adulthood. Right decision in any work field can not be learned until one learn the basics of the law or obeying rules. It is all learned in childhood. Yet a child of eight has not learn all those lesson of obedience, not to God or anyone else for that matter. Decision at eight can be changed at later date. Josiah desired in his heart to follow in the footsteps of her ancestor King David. He desire to obey the Lord and to rule as his ancestor King David, and so he chose to follow the Lord.

Children are impressionable, by leaders, but to be a leader and to impressed by an ancestor at age of eight he had to have experienced the power of God in his own life. To be so convicted to tear the idols of the enemy down, to have the temple cleaned, and restored, to have the priesthood teach him the word of God, the law of Moses. To be convicted that he would tear his clothing in his shame of disobedience and repentance at the reading of the law. To know the power of the enemy would not stand in his authority as king.

David did not have to destroy spiritual enemy, he was about destroying the enemies of Israel beginning with Giant Goliathe as a boy with a slingshot. A political war. I think of his first enemy and his denial of the instruction of King Saul to use Saul's armor. Taking only the armor of God and sling shot to win the war of the Philistines. He had not even been anoint to be the next king yet when he won his first battle. God was preparing a leader to rule Israel that knew to obey him. Saul was a king of the people. Saul would fail and the anointing of God would be removed from him. He would be a king after his own heart and not the heart towards God.

It is important to dwell in the pavilon of God to dwell in the temple of God, to dwell in the presence of God. To know the power of God in any position one serves in or even works in. To deny God is to be enemy of God. Our sanctuary must begin in our heart and not always a building built by man. It is the tabernacle God built to dwell in, but he comes not without invitation from us to enter in. Jesus knocks at the door of our heart, but we must allow him in. The Spirit seals our heart because God and his word becomes part of our life.

I can not imagine the impression of young leaders obeying God so young, without wondering of their spiritual struggles of faith even into adulthood and beyond as the diversity of people influenced ones thinking and their mindset. Yet God's power to put his people around Josiah even when the enemy surrounded him is clear. God's power to place his feet on solid rock. To teach his ways even when his own family forsook him. God would be his teacher and his corrector of his heart. David would learn God's correction with Bathesheba a woman he took for his pleasure causing her to commit adultery. To follow in King David's footsteps was not to follow the king for Josiah but to follow God because his ancestory had done so before him. He could hear the story of David, of Moses and so forth and know the power of God in their life. Impressionable, but resting on the power he understood coming from scripture that God was a mighty God and God who would guide him all his days if he would follow after him.

To trust in God and to dwell in his sanctuary of faith not just the building but to dwell with God and sup the word of God in his heart was Josiah and David desire. To know God intimately, no longer impressionable but build on solidness of God's word, by faith grown not just taught from young age, but to grow up into adulting years with knowledge of what faith truly was to them.

Thanksgiving Countdown Continues as we thank God for children no matter their future careers that choose God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit) to follow. That we thank God for the adults that learn to trust in him and to follow those same paths as a little child of faith. That faith becomes something very real in their life and not just polite words of hope.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for showing the children your power in their own life growing up, so faith would be solid in their hearts and minds, and not just impression to be good people, but people of faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 2 Chronicles 34:1-3 KJV
1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
