To Rise Again 11/03/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 9:36-42 KJV
36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.
38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
Some wonder why the resurrection of the dead does not occur often as in the time of Bible scripture. I think the main reason is we have both Sadducees and Pharisees in our mist that believe either in the resurrection or do not. Martha and Mary seen their brother raised from the dead. Then they witness Christ resurrection on the way to the tomb when the earthquake happened. All done in preparation of resurrection of Christ. Yet it would take the woman going to tell the men and men seeing the empty tomb to know the reality of Christ resurrection before Christ even appeared to them. Reason I think resurrection is not seen as in times as Bible is the doubt ability of its existence in our world, because of our ability to believe in Christ himself being the Son of God. The lack of faith of the generation coming up is a scary thought, and then we must realize salvation does not always come til later in life and not always in the teen years either. The distraction of our time is more memorizing then our faith. Meaning people take little time to think on the resurrection and little time on the cross. Yet when people do receive the hope of faith, a revival is surely to break out with the knowledge it only takes faith in Christ to be saved and part of the final resurrection.
I do not doubt in the little town of Joppa the knowledge of the resurrection was there, but the reality was still a small window of brain absorbing compared to the real reality of it. Dorcas became ill and she died they sent for Peter the apostle that was so moved by the thing the people showed him that she had made, that he knew the value of this woman to her community. Peter knelt and prayed by the Spirit of God and look at the body and said Tabitha arise. And she open up her eyes and seen Peter and sat up. He took her by the hand and presented her to the saints alive. All in Joppa believed in the Lord that day. Why is this resurrection recorded, because it demonstrated the power of God in the apostle life as well as the ability of God to continue to raise the dead. I said Peter prayed by the Spirit, Scripture does not declare it, but implied it and here why. To pray with faith to be moved to call someone to arise can only be done by the Spirit of God working in individual life. Doctors on call may breath life into a patient alone with their nurses, but they can not by the power of God without being saved call a person back to life that is dead. It takes the power of God and the will of God for this to happen. God is going to raise all believers in resurrection, but the evidence of his power is used to prove that power, not by the will of man but the will of God to show those in need of seeing it. Faith in the resurrection can only be describe as simply faith, faith by evidence of other things and events happening, and faith of witness of such event. It takes faith. Martha had faith that Jesus could of healed Lazarus and he would be resurrected in last days, but she got to behold the power of resurrection in her brother before seeing Christ rise again. Do we need the knowledge of the power of God or are we already a witness of his power to know his power to save and to enable us to rise again? The other day I seen a sign that used the word prediction in the coming of Christ. And I wanted to shout it not hypothesis, it is fact Christ is coming again. As I was writting this morning I thinking do those that predict really believe his return is coming soon to the point they believe in the resurrection as well, or in theory believe it will happen? I am hear writing to tell you Jesus is coming, there is resurrection of the dead to come and a second resurrection that is for thoe that are dead without faith that will see the final judgment of God. The first resurrecion is for those that believe and will be called up to meet Jesus in the sky. It is fact not a fable, not a dream, and definitely more then a hope.
Thanksgiving Day Countdown let us thank the Lord for more then a hope and knowledge and evidence of the resurrection in our life, even if it not the raising of dead currently, we know within our hearts because his Spirit speaks to the believers of faith and confirms the resurrection to come.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the knowledge of the resurrection and the more then the hope of the resurrection in our hearts to understand it a coming fact not a prediction. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: John 11:20-28 KJV
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
