God's Blessings In The Early Church: Lesson 14
5/15/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 5:17-25 KJV
17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,
23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

If God gives you an open door you better take it. If God going to work a miracle in your life, you better be prepare to tell the story of Jesus. The apostles knew persecution could come to them as it did Jesus. To obey God rather then man comes with consequences in this story. It is however the power of God in their life with the openning of the jail cell we get the impression, that God is proving his ability to keep his word alive. He can unlock the doors of the cell of innocent men and women. He unlocked the tomb and set the prisoners free from the grave when Christ was crucified and then arose. One taking on a physical miracle called the resurrection and the freeing of the jail cell done by angel or minister, did not cause the apostle to run from their situation only caused them to return to the point where they were stopped from preaching the day before. Had the empty tomb, the seeing of the resurrected of their Lord prepared the Apostles in that cell to emerge forth and to return to preaching in the temple. Perphas we should say the angel open that door and the apostle emerge only to go and rest for the day of preaching, or maybe they even preached all night, however only going by scripture, they left the cell and the next day they had not escape Jerusalem but continue teaching in the temple about the resurrected Lord.

Let begin again the guard is found to be in his place outside the cell but the cell is empty and the guards went and told the High Priest and the captain of the temple and chiefs priest doubt if this would grow. Then they find the apostle in the temple teaching. Tomorrow you find what the religious leaders do, but to day let us celebrate the open of the cell door, with the guard standing outside never seeing a thing. The day Christ arose from the tomb there was a quake and the stone rolled back and those guarding the tomb died.

If we think man can shut a door we sadly mistaken, a door will not keep God out. God's doorway can keep the demons out, the enemy out, the high water out, and the death angel out. Angels of God that minister to Lot's family kept the women safe that night. Who can keep God out? Man only has the power to keep God out of their own heart, not out of their life. Man can keep Christ from entering their heart, but not out of their life. Where can man go from God's Spirit, where can man hide? We need God and Christ to live and breath physically and to grow spiritually in faith in God we need him in our hearts as our instructor. Jesus may knock on the heart, but no one has to listen, but it does not mean he does not exist or still remain working around and marching in your life. His word will continue marching whether you heed to it or not.

Religious leaders thought they could stop the apostles from teaching, and thought they could instruct them not to teach, but they could not even keep them in a cell over night or out of the temple. It is easy to see the missionary journey, but it when the story of sharing about God comes with Pentecost and then healings in the temple with other signs and wonders, it would draw a crowd, but in so it drew a crowd that many were healed and delivered. How can religious leaders stop these events, they can not. For they could not even keep Christ in the grave, God resurrected his Son. Why did they think they could keep innocent apostles in chains.

Can God's people die, yes, but the message with or without his people will continue on. There is a verse that says God even in hell. We have to ask, where can we go from God's Spirit. Where can we flee from his prescence(Psalms 139). God gives us power over our own soul(in the choice we make for or against him). Can we deny this one door that can be open by our own will to him, the answer we should not, because he already knows all about us. He still wants to be a part of our life, and he wants to make our life better.

All doors are open to God but the highway to preach the Gospel is open wide to all believers, they have to only heed the call and surrender their all to God and Christ Jesus, allowing the Holy Spirit to instruct one's pathway. To do it God's way and not your own. It a price we often bare in our humanity but spiritual we will not bear a trouble with God.

God shut the door of the ark and then opened it for Noah and his family. Christ enter the upper room after the crucifixion without a door but sat and ate with his disciples. What door is closed that in our physical realm there is none, what about our spiritual realm, only our heart. Let Christ come in, for he opens and shut the doors of our life, to protect, to heal, to deliver, and to save us from our own destructive ways. Apostles cell door was open for them to preach the Gospel with boldness.

Dear Heavenly Father, remind us there is only one door that we can shut to you, only you shut and open doors to protect, save, and deliver until the day we go through the door of our eternity, whether it be hell or heaven it our choice. If we never allow you in, then you send us away and if we open our hearts wide you embrace us as we turn from our own wickedness. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Revelation 3:20 KJV
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Psalm 139:7-8 KJV
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

1 Corinthians 16:9 KJV
9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

Revelation 3:7-13 KJV
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
