God's Blessings In The Early Church: Lesson 6 5/07/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisSong of Songs 8:1-14 KJV
1 O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.
2 I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother's house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.
3 His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.
4 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.
5 Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.
6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.
7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.
8 We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?
9 If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.
10 I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour.
11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.
12 My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.
13 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.
14 Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
This passage of scripture came with my looking for some information the other day, and I stopped and said I like to write on this text, then upon reading it again, I changed my mind, but when God speaks to the heart you do your best. Reason for a withdrawal from this chapter would be there is much going on in this chapter poetically. It is a hard stretch in someway without knowing Jewish language Biblically for most. The verse that gotten my attention was verse 6 where it says set me as a seal upon thine heart(protect my heart with the law) as a seal on my arm (talking of Phalycteries ornament worn on the arm that the laws were written on). If I only read that portion of the verse, immediately with knowledge of God's word I see the prayer or the request of Solomon to have the laws of God not on his sleeve but tattoed to his heart by the Holy Spirit.
This is Mother's Day weekend, and in the first part of this chapter you see a young brother nursing at his mother breast. The need of milk the need of sisterly love, not sexual love, for the brother is only infant. No doubt there were times Mary would bend when nestling or nursing Jesus at her breast to kiss him. No doubt as Miriam's mother nursed Moses, she might of bend and kiss him as a big sister. In tender protection of her baby brother. Israel much like the sister to the church of Christ. Tenderly holding and caring for the laws and lawgiver of faith and when the lawgiver gave the word those that received it were part of the family of God. Were the bride of God, the bride of Christ. Bride of Christ would be those that would come after those of the law of God before the law became flesh and dwelt among us, and then the Holy Spirit would write the laws on the heart of man of faith that beleived and seal us tell the day of Christ return.
What makes one think of this being about Christ and not just simple allegory of human life, as people grow and mature in faith and become wall or door for those coming and entering into the palace of God. Now like I said this passage is hard to go through, because much is being discussed poetically, not to confuse the audience but to make one think about what truly being said and not as a cloak of hidden meaning, though for some this truly is just that.
The place of Solomon vineyard is in Baalhamon(Galilee(Capernaum and the place of Jesus home during his years of ministry). This vineyard was rented out in sections and was to produce a certain amount of crops. Now this passage is before Christ, so I look for a double meaning hear and the prophetic meaning as well. Solomon he had family in Capernaum, no doubt look for the coming of Christ. Nazareth rejected Jesus. Capernaum was made of both Jews and Gentiles. Solomon kingdom was made of both Jews and Gentiles.
It speaks a time frame of Solomon yearning for the laws of God to be written on the heart of the believer, that the law of faith was not divided by multiple faiths. Maybe even going as far as seeing the women who took the breath of his son, with the hyssop/spice wine of pomegranate(apple vinegar with spice). Speaking of Christ to the cross or his sons and daughters to the altar of goddess Asthrothe. Solomon seeing the coming of Christ and seal on his people that would fight against Asthrothe, who stole his children at the altar. Going even back to the time of Moses. No different then abortion stealing the children of this world to those who seek people to help them abort their children. The church needs to rescue the perishing. Yet the law says that it between a woman and a doctor. I say when it multiple times in a woman's life and not for health problems there is a problem occuring in our nation. When genocide, euthasia and so forth become okay, we need to ask were did society go wrong. Solomon cried out to God in his own poetic way desiring God to seal his heart with the laws of God on his heart. How many babies did he loose before he began to cry out to God. Yet God's promise was that He send his Son for them to kill, and then he would seal the hearts of man that believed with his Spirit, to remind not to not to commit such acts of sin.
We know the Christ came from the blood line of both the priesthood and the kingly line of Israel. Yet Christ while on earth taught and when his kingship was exalt the enemy swept in because God allowed the enemy to destroy Jesus, and the enemy failed because God was able to raise him back up again. Solomon perhaps seen something happen in his family with the witness of faith of Jewish people and the daughters of Asthrothe he married, that love of God changed some of them, that perhaps they were hidden because turning to God. The word of God purging his people and the sin continued in his kingdom, with war against those that turned to God.
Now we can know the whole story that occurred but the hope was that one day the enemy of faith in God would be destroyed. With Christ coming it knock the enemy down, but did not destroy the devil. The devil run to and fro on the earth until his time set by God is up. What God did through establishing faith in Jesus, allow the Holy Spirit to write on the walls of the heart of man. If to say the little girl in the story is the church growing into maturity and being part of the wall around the New Jerusalem whether a gate or wall, Solomon understood not. The comparison like in Revelations of the wall and gates of the New Jerusalem, being believers of faith with jewels decorations. Jewels the fruit of our wall or gateway to heaven. Wall of protection of faith or a gate(evangelist of faith). Solomon did not understand what this group of people called Christians would be. Perhaps wise because some groups are against the Jewish people and some side with them. The defining because some Christians chose the ways of the world over the laws of God. Much like Jewish nation in Old Testament days were not always Jewish by faith but Jewish because they were from that nation. American by law, and what faith are you decides what type of American you are, and yet faith is individual so titles are misleading.
Jewish nation a nurturer of the law of God on the outside, but inwardly God must write the laws to seal a person through faith in Christ. What takes one to believe in Christ and believe the prophecy God was sending his Son, so anyone believing would be saved. Remember Jesus is the word of God and Revelations 19, Jesus is the word of prophecy. Two roles of Christ in the flesh and Christ in the Spirit. To believe in both is to understand and receive the fullness of Christ.
To finish out the verse the grave(sheol) is jealous, because of the eternal flame of God has no end but the grave has an end. The word of God is the Alpha and Omega. The first and last. God's final word yet to come, whose name is Jesus. Love and death are both strong, but in truth love is stronger, for up from the grave Christ arose. What will happen to the little sister(the new church), it will grow and did grow.
Can we deny God's word. Even King Solomon knew the need of God's word with the death of his children. Remember the heir would come through King David, and Solomon was his son. How many heirs would perish and yet the tribe the line of David that would be the Messiah lived despite what the Devil did to stop it.
Mother's day is tomorrow and I thankful for my mom. Many things she taught me and other things I say she must admit comes from dear old dad. Though scripture can be taught in the home, the Holy Spirit must teach at some point his child of faith. There things of this world I understood not as a child, but as time past, I understood as adult. What I saying is if this passage is to much to grasp, do not feel ashamed, glean what you can, and leave the rest to God to enable you as you mature in him. If I been some help today great, but something the Holy Spirit going to have to teach you. Point being a parent can do all the right things and child be good or bad. Child must decide and the road gets harder as adult.
Dear Heavenly Father you see the people that are called by your name, divided because of your laws, your truth, your judgment and yet you send evidence of your love through your Son, who man destroys, only for you to show us your word can rise again, that Christ rose again from the grave, despite what man thought they could do. Help us Lord Jesus to obey your word, allow your word to prick our hearts. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
