God's Blessings In The Early Church: Lesson 5 5/06/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 2:41-47 KJV
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Ordinary men and women were baptized, and ordinary men filled with the Holy Spirit. And wonders and signs began to follow the apostles, christians of the early church began to share all things that all were need of. And the sold and gave to everyone that had need. What a glorious time in church history as the early church caring about one another in one accord. Many cultist use this type of thing in their ministry to attract people, and the church planting that goes on across the world does much the same thing. What one has to remember about cultist they usually have mental issues of control. Normal pastor, teacher does not need the control of the flock. That is Christ job. The laws and rules of any church is for the protection of the church for those attending that are not believers. If we walk by the Spirit we will not fulfilled the flesh(I Corinthians 8). If we worship in Spirit and in truth, the flow of worship goes quite nicely by all involved. Most congregational people are not at that point of worship, you got new born christians with focus still is driven about on the things of this world and not the spiritual nature of man and the worship of God. Yet everyone is able to give if they have or if they have not they are able to have til they are able to also give back. That way no one is without physical needs of food, clothing and other things necessary for daily living. New born Christians are like assorbent sponges needing the truth of God's word in their life, as we age in Christ hopefully that assorbency does not run out. The signs and wonders of first faith is evidence, That might be used as the calming effect during a storm. Signs and wonders may be provision that seemed impossible to obtain and God miraclously supplies. Often putting money together with other believers might supply many things, but God sometimes uses the impossible to show his power of provision. It not always money but the very thing in need given. As christian age the miracles and wonders could loose that wow factor if you did not know God will supply everything according to his purpose and will for your life. The mature christian is at that place they not only know God's supply and deliverance, but also sees those growing up taking their first mouth full of milk and meat and swallowing it as hunger vultures might, only to see them learning to rest in that knowledge of God themselves as time goes on.
We need to be hungry for the word of God as babe's in Christ and as mature Christians. The early church continue in the apostle's doctrine and the breaking of bread. They were teaching what the apostle told them about Christ. Some in the early church would of known Christ first hand and perhaps even testified of Christ work in his or her life. However we now only know the work of God by his Spirit and by the testimony and teachings of Christ. Testimony meaning signs and wonders still happen in the church world. The church world in some places only break bread and drink the juice/wine once a month or only occasionaly in rememberance of Jesus. Others do it every Sunday. Some do it when they entertain brothers and sisters in Christ. Some just share a meal, while talking and testifying what Christ has done.
Is the cup and wine essential in the memory of our Lord? It was important to the early church to be reminded of the cost Christ not only paid for their sin, but the cost of obeying God despite the law of man. It is not the law of man is more powerful, it is that fact that the law man applies to even those not of faith. When something happens in the church of God and is against the law of man, man will be persecuted and even slain for it. What does this mean? Many church during the pandemic made a choice, though alcohol stores remained open. Pandemic was swift and moving and contain was more important then church? Depends on who you ask. There are those that can be eventive online to the point of church meetings and so forth now online. Sermon itself being something individual, but Sunday School groups being corporate in nature online. It puts the free workers out on the street and behind the camera. Some truly enjoying it and some that just not their cup of tea. It is separating the good teachers from the bad. It is also putting people in places of ministry elsewhere in churches that is more of their calling in ministry. It is taking people out of their comfort zone and putting them in a place of learning as well. Putting people on the frontline of spiritual work and others behind the scene to be trained for this work and endurance.
Is the cup and bread important with so much contraversary in our world today and even mild persecution in the states from time to time. What about over seas where persecution is continual. We drink the wine and eat the bread as a reminder of what Christ did for us first. The preparing his people for those times that the world was going to be in disagreement with God and be allowed to win for a time, but the day of revenge was and is in God's grasp. It still important to follow in Christ example and obey him. The early church took it part of tradition of fellowship in Christ with sharing of the passover(cup and the wine). Observance is saying we remember what Christ went through on the cross for you and I. It also a good time of reflection as a believer if we living up to the cross of Jesus and if not repenting and turn to walk closer to Jesus.
Many things were happening in the early church, but learning and being taught scripture was part of the learning. Small groups formed with 3000 and more add daily to be educated about Christ. Teaching continued and spread of the Gospel continued in the early church. if you want your church to grow you must teach Jesus. You must teach the works of Christ, you must continue in fellowship and in rememberance of what Christ as done for you and I.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for designing the early church to remember what Christ has done for you and I. Help us to remember Christ sacrifice and his love for us. That he through your Spirit remains in us as believers and enables to walk the road of faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: 1 Peter 2:1-10 KJV
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
