God's Blessings In The Early Church: Lesson 4
5/05/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 2:12-41 KJV
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

The first evangelistic message came with hope. We can not forget Christ raised many up on the day of his resurrection, yet we can not deny the confusion it would cause many people, especially people wondering why King David had not risen from the tomb. Yet David prophecy of the day of resurrection to come, the time when the Holy ones of Israel would not see the grave. Holiness by itself in reflection to God alone, is in regard to his purity in all things despite the sin of the world. Holiness of a king or religious leader defines his being set apart for a particular reason for God, his or her anointing being defined by that call and not necessary the state of his or her humanity in the eyes of God. Meaning David still sinned, but his purity came because of his faith in God, without repentance and sacrifice it was impossible to please God despite faith. Sacrifice purge the sins from man, for one spotless sheep had died for man. If you ever spent time with an animal it is easy for man to feel attached to some degree. Yet to force it to loose it life for you or me was a great price. Vegetarians simply can not handle animal being killed for them. Yet when Christ died for you and me it was a greater price. Let us back up a minute. If sins could be forgiven without sacrifice, sacrifice was only a payment for sin. A thief still punished with lost of a hand, a killer a loss of his life, and a adultress was stoned. Point Christ died he died as a king. Payment in society for the crime and the cost of that crime all on his shoulders. Was his cross worthless, no. What it means was that Christ suffered for his humanity, and because of who he truly was and is. We all suffer in someway of who we are. Our very nature born of this world not of the world of heaven. Many people talk of the innocents of a child, but sin enter that child because of the world he born into. Eve being the only innocent one in regard to no personal knowledge of a world outside the garden. We must remember Adam was placed in the garden and knew of outside of the garden for this reason, if only for a short time period. Knowledge of something beside the garden of Eden, and yet he still chose sin. Did he know his action produced death, I doubt it. Yet he knew he was in God's holy habitation with a command not to eat the forbidden fruit. Knowledge without full understanding no clue, but what it means is God left a door open for punishment and correction with forgiveness. Punishment was death. David face death like every man, woman and child will with or without salvation, unless the resurrection or they are rapture into heaven. We know only two people that never saw the grave Enoch and Elijah. Yet Christ seen the grave.

What does this speak,consequences for action causing death and not life. If Christ had not risen then his price for humanity would have held him down, because he was not who he claim to be. With his resurrection he proved to be the Son of God, and even God the Father. With resurrection though in general the dead would not rise to eternal eternal life with God but face the final judgment in the eternal lake of fire, that burns for eternity. Meaning those who did not believe face conquences first for unbelief and then the judgment because they rejected Christ and lived in sin instead of holiness. Consequence of our sin is still death, but our faith also has consequences called eternal life or eternal judgment. Man's judgment is not final, God's judgment is final. Where are you standing on solid rock of faith in Christ Jesus, or in the judgment of God to come.

We see King David not having risen in the resurrection when Christ began to raise those in the graveyard up where those graves that were open, when Christ arose setting those captive by hell(ground) free. Yet those that remain imprisoned by the ground did not rise or in tomb in a cave. The time of Katrina in New Orleans graves opened up, no one thought to much about it because of flood water. Anyone that cares for a cementary knows these oddities happen with storms, or to much water. Most time bodies only come out if a lock is busted and so forth. The earthquake at the time of the cross opened up the grave, and so Christ resurrected some of the people as a testified what God would do in the resurrection of the dead to come. Now those dead and not already in the presence of the Lord will face the final judgment. All our bodies will face decay but will we be spiritual born again to have life with Christ or life in the eternal lake of fire. King David being still in his tomb had nothing to do with whether or not he was with the Lord, his faith did.

Jesus demonstrated the resurrection of the soul with the transfiguration of Moses and Elijah being present before John, Peter and James. This happened before the cross. Meaning those in the tomb were those whose spirit had no eternal life. Their judgment was to come. Yet the body itself only stop the lost from entering the judgment seat of God. The grave has never stop a believer from entering heaven. What death does not stop for a believer from being in heaven. A day would come when the dead in Christ would rise first. Much like Lazarus being resurrected and those being resurrected from the graveyard where Christ was raised. Those raised would of been soldiers of faith, but David raised not. His state being in heaven already as Elijah and Moses was in the transfiguration.

Why was David even talked about in this sermon of Peter why so much information on King David in Apostle Peter's sermon after being infilled with the Holy Spirit. It simple no doubt those who were still in Jerusalem, perhaps even workers cleaning up the graveyard, or taking care of workers, were puzzled by the situation of about forty days ago, but now they seeing another strange event in men preaching in languages that was their own. The Prophet Joel spoke that men and women would be filled with God's Spirit and they would preach and teach called the later rain. What the people in Jerusalem were seeing was just that. Peter also explains why some came not out of the grave as well as a sign that we will not all remain asleep, nor if we would rise again as evident to those remaining on earth at the time of the rapture if they had faith, would walk through fire and not be harmed, but the second rising of the dead would come spoken in revelations to face the final judgment. This resurrection of the dead in Matthew and now in Acts and also in the letters of I Peter and Second Peter with reference of what is to come. The first resurrection spoke by John in the book of Revelation has not come. Meaning we are looking for the day of resurrection and rapture, for the sake of the last stanze by God on the earth before the final judgment. Those that believe will face much hardship that never known, but they will walk through it and not be harmed, as we are harmed today as facing the elements of our world and facing judgment of the elements of the world. The passage in Revelation that talks of people walking through fire and not being burnt, or scorpions stinging and not being harmed. Yet the believer will see the torment of the unbelievers, if there is even inkling of hope of some of them being saved it be pure miracle, for the torment of the lost is going to be real at the time of God's wrath and the hardness of hearts of some will be equally as real.

I know I just written over the top of some people's head and others will be saying now that makes more sense to me. It is okay, because I sure on the day the Peter began to speak by the Holy Spirit, those not understanding and remain lost had to be taught about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. There is a point there would of been believers in Jerusalem, especially the hierachy of faith that would of understood Peter's words but there still would of been religious leaders that would not of believed that were in the temple for money and not because of faith. They would of been the Priesthood born of Eli's son, who would persecute the early church. Garments of sheep clothing, gentle but cunning as wolves without receiving the promises and hope of faith presented by the Gospel message as Christ walked the earth, or with his resurrection and ascension into heaven. When Peter shows compassion on the Jews of the ignorance of these things, they ask what to do, and Peter says to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and they would be saved and to receive the Holy Spirit of promise. And the blessing came when 3000 people got saved that day.

Blessing of the church are those that come to know the Lord. The blessing of the church is the increase of fellow believers in faith, we can not deny it. The work of the Lord must come with increase, to continue his work and to see it fulfilled in the life of many people. Every church out there since the pandemic that decided to try things online have been blessed in some way, either with knowledge of how to expand ministry outside the doors of their church or expand their minister within the confines of the computer world that said this is for them. A labor of love given to all that share Jesus.

The first evangelistic sermon was preached on the day of Pentecost to educate those who witness the things that happened in Jerusalem forty days ago. It was to explain why some graves were not open as well. Especially once David knew that there would be a resurrection. His hope assured. Yet he would dwell in the house of the Lord forever, because the Lord was his Shepherd.

Remember Evanglism is only a tool to reach the lost for Jesus, to help them get saved, it is not the last job of the church world, or the believers role People also need a time of teaching that principals of faith, and people to help them understand who the Holy Spirit truly is. Yes man can in today's world study on their own these things, but man still needs fellowship of other believers to grow and be accountable to live the life as a believer. Remember that pandemic and Cov 19 virus can be used for a godly purpose. Let's not look at this as a curse, but a way to reach out.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the blessings of increase of believers in our land because of evanglism that took the internet by storm. Help each church to feed the flock both on and off line. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 2 Peter 2:1-9 KJV
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
