God's Blessings In The Early Church: Lesson 2
5/03/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 1:12-26 KJV
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)
16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.
21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

No one says Peter take charge it seems he speaks perhaps because he was one of the disciples who was present at Christ baptism by John the Baptist and seen the dove descend upon Jesus. His eldership/apostleship came with knowledge about Jesus not just taking charge attitude. He also had knowledge of scripture, for reference is made of King David in his first speech concerning prophecy concerning the field Judas was buried in. Now they look around at the men in the upper room and found two that had knowledge since the baptism of Jesus and voted on who would take Judas places and the lot fell to Matthias. Second blessings God provided a man to take Judas place among the eleven apostles that were witness of the ministry of Christ.

Why is testimony and knowledge of scripture important to becoming a leader in apostleship and in the early church. Scripture meaning Old Testament and the works of Christ in the time in which Christ lived to ascension into heaven. The word of faith from Old to the four Gospels essential to reshare to win others to Christ. HOwever it is also to give a full account of scripture. Why the need of Christ to die for the sins of the world was not only necessary but a blessings to the world. Essential knowledge of who Jesus was before and after his birth. Jesus being the word that became flesh and dwelt among us. Prophecy of Old coming to light in the birth of Christ to his call/stepup into ministry. The account we have is only a small recorder of the works of Jesus. Yet it enough to win the hearts of the worse sinner, including me. Why because knowledge is essential for faith. Every testimony of faith is important but the fact is the book of faith is a foundation stone or building block or our faith. Other testimonies might lead another to Christ, but it should go back to the core of scripture about salvation. Nothing changes God's word when it comes to salvation for man kind.

The need of the Apostleship for people to share the Gospel of Christ, to know the beginning of the ministry of Jesus, being the foundation of faith. Laying any other foundation is not of God. There ministries that teach not Christ but stand in Christian churches today and speak from a psychological point of view or even a science point of view without knowing Jesus or teaching about Jesus. They want to tell how to apply Jesus without telling you about him. They want to apply the principals of Jesus without understanding who Jesus is or anything concerning scripture. Simply the minister you to know philosphy and not Jesus. More wolves in sheeps clothing then we want to think about. Even though messages might sound like good simple truth, they leave out Jesus or the word of God. They talk to satisfy itching ears and not speak truth about who our Savior is and what he did while on the earth as a man. Helping the world to relate to our example of how to live given to us.

Do not think the rest of the New Testament is not important for it is to knowledge of issues of the early church, how they were handled and encouragement the writers gave the church. Do not think it not hard to listen to scripture without becoming close minded to repetition, in one since scripture reading is no different then reading any book, and yet it has one element others books do not have, including historical books and that is principals and concepts of faith God established for man from the begining of time to the waiting of Christ return.

Peter established in scripture knew the prophecies even relating to Judas. He could no longer deny prophetic evidence coming to reality even to the cross. Yet no one running around shouting quite yet that Christ is risen. We have to ask why? Jesus instructions to the disciples was to wait on the coming of the Holy Spirit, he would teach you his laws. He would be the instructor of their words. Yet God's word was already speaking before the day of Pentecoste in Peter. That is a second blessing, because the disciples were also listening to his leadership.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for leaders in church world today that know the Holy Scriptures the blessings of faith whether with or without the infilling of the Holy Spirit being given or receive yet, man is still speaking by your Spirit, because your word is present in memory and writings of faith. In Jesus name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 2 Peter 1:16-21 KJV
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
