The March Through The Gospels: Lesson 22 3/22/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 15:21-39 KJV
21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.
30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:
31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.
39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.
Jesus and his disciple walking in the land of Phoenicia on the coast of Tyre and Sideon, along the Meditarean sea. This area not of Israel. And a woman Canaan came begging for the healing of her daughter that was possessed by devils. Jesus did not respond to the woman's pleads but the disciples begged Jesus to send the woman away. Jesus said was he not sent only to the house of Israel. The woman came and worshipped him, only for Jesus to ask does not the servant give the children bread to dogs. And the woman said even the dogs eat scraps from the table of their masters. Jesus said woman of great faith and her daughter was made whole. Even those of not of Israel had faith in God. Reason being they would hear through the grape vine serving their masters. Their masters would tell their children about God and they would believe in God themselves. Faith is not just for those who are from the tribe of Israel, it for whosoever believeth in Jesus. Jesus would then travel back toward home to the coast along the sea of Galilee. Why did Jesus keep wandering around telling stories about God's kingdom and healing. To give the gentiles hope and remind Israel of hope that is found in God's word coming to pass. The woman of Canaan, is actually from the land that gave Abraham his portion of property in the Bible. Gave a deed in the since of land ownership, yet the land was already given to Abraham by God. This area had been a witness of the righteousness of Israel for a long time, was the woman from the tribe of Canaan, scripture does not say that only that she was from Canaan. I am pointing this out so one can understand that nations had followed Israel for centuries and seen God's saving grace in the life of Israel for centuries. It much like we watch our world online, and know about many countries through the eyes of the video camera and the talk of the people of many languages unknown to the listener unless one has interpretator we can not know what is being said.
We want to understand a people we must start often with culture, but Jesus already knew the culture of many areas, and the response here was the disciples could not understand why this woman called after Jesus and wanted him to just send her away. Yet when she reached him she bowed and worshipped Jesus. There are people that cry out to God/Jesus that truly do worship him, but come in need of prayer or deliverance from God. We should never turn fellow believers away, yet it does happen for one reason or another in our world. Yet we look at their wardrobe and declare them not part of our group, or part of our clique and that they can seek their own. In truth that far from what brotherhood and sisterhood that God expect of his family. It matters not if you are rich or poor, in need, not in need, content, upset and so forth it matters not where your from, we are in need of deliverance through prayer, through hope and faith. The church family is not about where you from, or what you make, it about are you a child of God? How does one know each other by God's Spirit. We know by God's Spirit those among us that are need of salvation. We need to be praying that we will be that witness God uses to bring the lost to Jesus, especially those seeking to know him. We need to be the light in the darkness that glorifies Jesus. Don't worry no one does this perfectly and our imperfection at times can be a plus. Yet it about sharing Jesus as we are and allow him to change us and perfect us into peculiar people that worship him.
Jesus in the land of Galilee went up on a high mountain and people followed him there. He began to heal them and teach them. No one asked where they were from, who they were, they just came in need of the touch of Jesus. After they been their awhile, he feed them fish and bread because he did not want to send them away fasting, for some had been with him three days. They had seven loaves and few little fish. This is the second time recorded that Jesus feed the multitude, this time was four thousand the other account was five thousand. Then he sent the crowd away.
The crowd was not has huge but big enough that what happened in the desert could be done on the mountain. The disciples knew that they had less with the feeding of the five thousand but there was plenty of leftovers. Jesus would break the bread and meat once more and it would multiply to feed them all. Then Jesus boarded a ship and went to Magdala near the coast of Sea of Galilee.
Dear Heavenly you call the sinners, not people of any group, creed, background, but you call and draw all men and women to you. Give is the wisdom to share no matter who you send our way. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Ephesians 2:10-22 KJV
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
