The March Through The Gospels: Lesson 21
3/21/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 15:15-20 KJV
15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

If one needs of a clearer picture of yesterday lesson it be found in the verses preceded in yesterday lesson when Peter ask Jesus to declare them a parable. Jesus response is are you without understanding? Peter being the chief disciple to come, is shown here still learning, or seeking knowledge. Jesus talks about the food process of it going into our bodies and leaving our bodies and that being filth not sin. Those things that come out of the mouth comes from the heart and they defile a mankind that is sin. Some might declare they never have evil thought, but even as believers we have evil thoughts even if we do not act on them. An evil thought that comes from the mouth is evil only when it brings forth life from the mouth to action, no when it breaths life through the mouth in words. The words tells the secret thoughts of the soul and mind that are spewed forth. Only one that can take responsible for action of those words is either the hearer of those thoughts that cause one to do them. The anger or evil intent by mouth can not harm anyone other then in the since of emotional abuse. Yet words are not action. Action of evil is far worse. Yet we all spew when we are angry words that we long to take back. Yet if you put toothpaste on your hand can you can you put it back into the tube? The answer if is probably not. Words are like that toothpaste, you can not retrieve them once uttered. You can change your mind and not do what you words said, but you can not retrieve them.

A dog can retrieve a ball, but you can not retrieve your words. A cat can catch a mouse but he can not breath life back into the mouse once killed. His action to harm clear with each pounce. Who told the mouse to run past a cat in the first place was it on dare of another mouse that brought forth capture and death to the mouse? We must beware the things that defile us can be the very thing that will cause another to do harm. The children of the world as many teachers, but not all teachers breath life into their children. Some teachers only breath the fear of God and the fear of law into children without the life of the law and the word of God it brings forth destruction to a child. Without the hope of words of truth, it brings forth destruction, anger, strife and alot more. God through out the Old Testament especially concerning the laws. It was if you do them it will go well for you. If you believe in Jesus in the New Testament it will bring forth life for eternity. Yet at the insurrection we see Jesus bring destruction only to bring in another person to commit a crime. Does going to the cross for crime he did not commit, cause one to obey the law of man, or cause one to allow oneself to suffer in obedience to God and man? Our words can bring death to another by their obedience to our words, but Jesus words did not ever cause one crime by Jesus, his action against the money changers did. Yet was it lawful to correct the ones in the house of God by God's ministers. Was there a separation of church and state, or was Rome law in charge inside the temple with Rome only allowing Israel to run its rules as long as it did not effect Roman law?

Christ spoke the law of faith, the words of faith, but did not teach the laws of man as being necessarily culturally or government accepted. Why because man was under Roman law. Yet the laws of Moses were healthy to a way of clean living. Purity of the flesh, not necessarily the soul. Yet the words of Christ were words of life to bring forth fruit not death and destruction. Yet the cross alone to bear reproach in doing the will of God, to bear the sins of another to the rules of man being the will of God for Jesus and sometimes us. Disciples went to jail speaking about Jesus, healing the sick, but not for a crime, unless it be the crime of obeying God rather then man. The goods of God's people being crucified why, because of the laws and/judgement of man who understood the Gospel message of endless life.

It puts the world in a place that they claim they do not want the fruit of God's labor. It puts man that choose God and choose to speak the ways of God in a place of persecution or the valley of death. God says not to fear, because he is with us still. Our humanity condemns us. The ways of man is evil, but the way of truth and the words of life saves us.

Faith would have to be what held the disciples during the crucifixion, it would have to be the very thing that would allow them to have hope. Did the rooster crowing only reminded Peter that Jesus words were true. Was it enough when the woman came running to tell them of the empty tomb enough for Peter to go and see the empty tomb himself to believe. Christ dying because of man, but rising up because of obedience to God the Father. His words of faith bring forth life despite the destruction and evilness of man.

If our suffering be for evil words or action let us it be to one's shamed. If our words of faith bring about persecution and even death let one not be ashamed, and let us rejoice and be glad in our suffering for we suffer as Christ did. Words of faith will always bring forth life of those in observance of our suffering. Be glad and rejoice because you were persecuted or went to a maryters death but if it be because of sin, then hang your head down in shame and walk in sack cloth and ashes over sin.

Dear Heavenly Father, if I must ever bear reproach for evilness in my life let it be to my shame, but if I bear the reproach for Christ and the testimony given of faith, let it be for your glory and honor, to testify to those in need of you, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Peter 4:11-19 KJV
11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
