The March Through The Gospels: Lesson 14
3/14/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 4:43-54 KJV
43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

Jesus left the village of the woman at the well and went into Galilee into the area that was his home and he also testified of himself "that a prophet had no honor in his own country". Meaning he probably went home to mama had a good old fashion cooked meal and town and the village were not to happy about it. Yet he went on Galilee and was received in other part of Galilee that was not his hometown. That whole region from Nazareth to Capernaum was part of Galilee, yet only certain parts received him, but on further study there were other areas that received not many miracles, because they did not believe, and it was said because no one received the prophet. This area that watch him grow up had a hard time receive Jesus as the Messiah. Most of us that seen friends from years ago that we had not seen, have notice great change because of maturity, because of the hand the world dealt them so to speak and the bed themselves made in their own life. When you hit fifty it hits maybe a little harder then any other age, because you look through the years and might ask yourself how could you have been more successful in life. Then you realize sometimes one is dealt a hand that is hard to make the best of the situation, yet you done better then thought possible. We perhaps see the humanity of Christ and people reaction of his hometown much like our own hometowns that are surprised about ourselves.

What about those people that move around a lot because parents are soldiers, ministers and business people, it can be said they have no hometown, only a place they chosen much like Christ did Capernaum? Your new hometown has also watch the changes over the years. Is there a point, we often judge what we understand not of people that might even be neighbors based on one event or several events in life. It is not wise to judge that way, people change. People have a public life style and home life style that might not be the same. What then we live in a world that constantly judging and Jesus time was no different, and yet he was called the perfect man by God, and he was perfect through out his life. Perhaps the men of the village did not like competiting with Jesus perfection, and so when Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding feast, no wonder they loved him. Buy people wine they are your friend, but you turn water into wine with unlimited supply and they are more then a friend, and one will be accept as a part of them for life. Alcohol has that effect on people. It is a sad state of affairs. If Jesus had built a bridge into the village across a water way, people would of been impressed, even a friend, but wine that not necessity it a luxury for some people. I do not drink and I get that. People want the popular drug of choice and not the practical things in life. A bridge is a solution to a problem but it novelity is soon worn off when repair work needs doing. We put names on bridges and in Biblical time people put names on wells, because of who dug it. Why the need for water in a dry and thirsty land in the middle of no where. It is like Trump's wall it will always be called Trump's wall, despite what any other president does in the future to change the Trump wall. Yet I do not doubt there are Texans that appreciate the wall. When we choose someone based on their provision for area, because they solve a problem, it can be seen as a solution to the bigger issue. Yet a cripple man is often thought to have no power in society but seen as a nuisance or burden. Yet many disabled people say I am not disabled I am handicapable given a chance. Many disabled have proven their worth in society that many are not frowning on any longer but given a hands up in areas need to become successful in other areas of the area in which they live. Yet the handicap person fails to realize we all are truly handicap in someway and the struggle of the fight is real across the board of wholeness as well. To prove your worth in society and when one turns old to live a happy end of life enjoying those happy golden years, hopefully.

Jesus is making his way into the world at age 33 and not as a carpenter like his earthly father Joseph. More like his Heavenly Father God in the working of miracles. For a nobleman comes to him and his son is sick, where is Jesus in his new hometown Capernaum. The nobleman goes to Jesus with the problem and Jesus tells the man his son is well, and so the man goes home and it is a days journey from where he seen Jesus and his servant come running to greet him with news his son is well. The nobleman wants to know the time his healing took place and it was yesterday about the seventh hour. Nobleman thought and gave the credit to Jesus. No hands touch the boy, but the word alone was enough for the Nobleman to believe. Jesus is fast making his way into the world. See the Galileans not of his village seen the miracles in Jerusalem during the feast day. Jesus had a home in a place that received him, because of what he provided for them. If wine was the first miracle in Cana of Galilee, think Nazareth had not had perhaps this privilege of seeing Jesus in ministry. Yet Mary herself knew his power and his ability. Yet is that with most parents, they seldom amazed at their children.

The hour you and your family began to believe in Jesus was it because of a miracle? Was it the wonders of God through prayer of a believer? Was the words of Christ enough? What took you on your journey of faith. This is the beginning of Christ ministry on earth. His village new Mary's story and probably even Elizabeth's but they believed not or understood not his hour was not yet. Mary understood with the changing of water into wine, his season of ministry was beginning.

Your time of belief will come if you continue to search for faith in God and if you already believe your time of strengthen, and becoming that super Christian you want to be will come. It will come when you prepare to receive. Just be open to what ever God prepares you to receive whether it be faith through God's word, or a miracle that can only come from God alone. Remember Christ truly came to redeem man from their sin, and to give them hope. Jesus was there in Israel to restore the lost sheep to God the Father. Even religious leaders would of understood it, for they recognized Jesus and his disciples baptized more then John. Three days ago lesson, did you think on it. First part of John 4. What did Jesus baptize with? Jesus baptized with his word and miracles done. Are you baptized in the word of God and the miracles that lead to faith or the beginning stage of faith?

Dear Heavenly Father may you open the eyes of the blind, and strengthen the searchers of faith to know your reality and your power through Jesus name, through miracles and through your word, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 4:1-2 KJV
1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
