The March Through The Gospels: Lesson 12
3/12/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 4:3-30 KJV
3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
4 And he must needs go through Samaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:
18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

Baptism by Jesus is the woman in Samaria. What is the baptism but by Christ words alone. Disciples were a witness of who Jesus was and no doubt shared with everyone they came in contact with, but in this portion of scripture the disciples were not with him. There is then a discourse about the need of water and why would Jesus even ask her for water considering he was a Jew and she a Samaritan. Samaritans were outcast in society, because their intermarried with other cultures that were not necessarily worshippers of God alone. This was important in Jewish culture. In this portion of scripture Jesus is talking to this woman, asking only for a drink of water. She wants to know why he ask for water and Jesus says basicly if you had known who I am you would asked me for living water. Woman states the obvious that he had nothing to draw with, and the well was deep, so how was he going to give her a cup of living water. She wanted to know if he was greater then her father Jacob. This well been there since the time of Jacob the patriach of Israel. The living water Jesus would give her would be "I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life". She would never thirst again if she had living water. She gives me this living water you speak about. He tells her to go fetch her husband and she says she has no husbands. Jesus tells her she has five husband and the one she with she not married too. There she says you must be a prophet. She goes on to say that the men worship in the mountains and Jews in the Jerusalem. Jesus says a time is coming where the true worshippers will worship in spirit and in truth.

Important to note the division of place to worship came with the fact the Samaritans were consider unclean, and did not go to the temple to worship God. Important to note he speaking spiritually, no one is going to be going to either place soon, either in Jerusalem or the mountain, we will be worshipping in spirit. Jesus is speaking of the fall, the final take over by Rome and the fall of Jerusalem and Samaria. Yet it would come forty to sixty years laters after Christ death and resurrection.

The woman said I know that when the Messiah comes he will tell us all things for he is the Christ. Jesus baptizes her with I am he, and she goes and fetches the men of her village and says is this not the Christ come and see. She is the first woman evanglist and she come by the belief in the words of Jesus. We want to pigeon hole baptism as that very act of being dunk in water, but if we can not be dunk can we be saved. Most agree baptism is important step of believers life but the baptism by the Word and Holy Spirit is far greater. When we believe the word of God spoken to our hearts by his Spirit we are saved upon belief, and yet we receive Christ as being God's only begotten Son unto salvation. The men came to see Jesus and Jesus spent time there.

I talked about baptism briefly yesterday leaving you with a deep thought on the subject. How did Christ baptize it would be with fire, but not yet. He baptized this woman with his words of living water and by telling her about herself things he should not known unless a prophet or the Messiah/God. I talk some about cults, it has been a while, but yesterday on ABC on 20/20 they showed Heaven's Gate cult that lost over 35 memembers it was to suicide. There is a reason I mentioned this. The leader lead these people into believing they were going to be riding on a space ship if they followed him. Is that not our nation, that we be riding in space in time to come. Yet the truth of the matter he said he was preparing them for travel, whether through death, or actually stepping on a space ship. Most of us would not fall for this, but as one said on 20/20 that the people are guillible to the right speech at the right time in their life, and this is so true. Was this woman gullible or did she know what was said was true. There many things people can guess about another person, make sure you do not fall into the trap of believing just because they speak truth about you. If you look online there are many social media outlets that allow people to know you without you knowing them. Is that dangerous. It can be and yet people are people and generally people care about others and not mental or physical killers. Yet what we see is people falling to lies of devil because of social media and tracking of individuals even what they wear, where they shop, what they need, what they looking for online. Emotional need of the individual from groups they walk into looking for help and so forth. It a dangerous game that others play with other's minds.

Jesus knew this woman because of who he is, no disciple was with him, and he spoke of himself this one time to declare who the disciples were not yet fully ready to baptize people into knowing about who he completely was. No miracle was performed, only speech. The need for a sign was not present, meaning she knew scripture and knew what was taught about the Messiah and God. She was a woman. She is the first woman evanglist to Samaria, her village. Now with that thought, if you meet Jesus understood who he was how long would it take you to find others to bring them to him. If you know who Jesus is today by his word and Spirit why are you not evanglizing today? Was the woman situation different? She was seeing Jesus in the flesh as a man something tangible. People stop sharing Jesus when they can not grasp his reality, so when prophecy is given, when the word of truth is spoken that can not be known but only from God, people desire not necessarily more, but desire to know more about Jesus. Jesus speaks directly to our hearts about our sin and directly to our understanding of what we acknowledge to know about him. The rest come with knowing about God through scripture, and Old reliable source in our century, the oldest recorded manuscripts in many languages.

What is this then evidence of faith needed either through signs and wonders, and/or God's word. If we fail to know God any other way, we might not know God. Heaven Gate's group thought they were following someone that would take them in a spaceship, and then killed them by convincing them to take their own life. The nightmare of the families does not end, because if they known perhaps they would of done more then they did. It easy to follow a lie, with words of what is expected, not necessarily truth.

Why do I think Jesus is not a cult in the since of being a lie, when God's word in the Old Testament says no other God before me. It comes by his word, Jesus word when studied lines up not only with God and the prophets of old, but God prophecided of his coming and continues to prophecy of his return to and in the heart of the believer. God produce life continual life, produce love, hope, thanksgiving, compassion, and so forth, does not produce evil. Evil is suicide, evil is self centerness. Evil is no compassion for another. Hilter was easy to follow because he brought hope to a nation that understood how much he hated and wanted to cleanse his nation of people he wanted to discard as trash. How long would it take for one ill person, or person that worked hard and became disabled despite his long work history to be labled for removal. That is the danger of society that thinks everyone not like them or able, is garabage, who is next, a blond, a red head or more.

Jesus message was about love for two groups of people. His message went to the outcast of society and to his own nation of Israel. His message of love and hope went to the disabled and the diseased with the hope of healing even if it be fifty years as the man born blind found out. Hope, howw long does our nation have to wait for a cure for someone to have hope. How long do we have to wait for a miracle is not up to us to decide but God alone. Yes man might suffer on this earth, but Christ died suffering for you and I, because of our sin. For our own selfishness, for our need to be on top of the world, to having everything everyone else has. In truth that is extreme for most, but in reality it is truth.

Jesus message was always about hope not death. His message and healing was always about love and even correction and speaking truth, whether one wanted to hear it or not. He spoke truth about the religious leaders. He spoke truth about how people truly are, and yet gave them hope with the repentance that came with the correction from his lips. God is merciful and Christ spoke truth. Are you willing to speak truth or spend time in the lie of Satan. Beware my friends follow no man or woman, but follow God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and walk by his Spirit with faith in Christ Jesus. Use your judgments and use your common sense to see if what you hear and witness is from God. God is Spirit and God is love.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to trust your word, your spirit and to remember you are about hope to the world and love to all people, that you are living water water, Christ being living water your Spirit being living water to our very soul, that helps us to share your word and our story about Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Paul baptizing and teaching into the ways of Christ and the Holy Spirit

Acts 19:1-7 KJV
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
7 And all the men were about twelve.
