The March Through The Gospels: Lesson 7
3/7/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 2:1-11 KJV
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

One of Jesus's early miracles took place in Cana of Galilee somewhere between Capernaum and Nazareth. one can understand Jesus homeplace would of been Capernaum at this time probably or shortly after this time period. Time of story is seen before Capernaum. These timetables can be a little trickery to follow because what we really know is the disciples here had been chosen, but the Gospel of John does not record all of disciples being called. It does record a few disciples like Peter, Andrew, Phillip and Nathanael which would of been along the Jordan river. Peter is from Capernaum or mother law is anyway. These disciples were traveling back north from the Jordan river. The outline I using in my Thomas Chain Reference Bible shows the miracle in Cana to be before the leaving Nazareth and going to Capernaum. Yet two disciples were chosen in Capernaum. I question time frame a little because this one place the disciples began to believe on Jesus because of the miracles Jesus did in the land of Cana. I believe Jesus comment to his mother concern his time had not yet come, was in reference to his blood being pour out, because the wine would represent the cup he would suffer for you and me. Yet no one there would of understood this. Jesus is called to the marriage with is disciples. Now often when we think of the bride of Christ we recognize his church being his followers, but this is not the wedding feast of Christ, his mother only needs him to perform a miracle to help in a wedding feast. Christ humor, or prophetic undertone, lost by mother and those there that knew of the need for the wine, and yet his mother says to the servants do whatever he ask you to do. How many times had Mary been without something in the kitchen and Jesus would provide, the world will never know on this side of eternity, but it one question I going to ask Mary in heaven, because of the water turning to wine. The water of faith turns to wine when the blood is pour out for you and me, and yet once drained the water is the last thing that pours out from Christ. Jesus told the Samaritan woman(John 4) at the well that he had living water, that he was living water, That living water is the word of God, that living water was Christ because he is the word God. Yet the living water would change to a covering for your and my sins upon Christ suffering for you and me. Now Jesus time to die was not yet, and so Jesus performed a miracle and it symbolizes what Jesus will do for us when it time for him to suffer and die for our sins. He covered the wedding feast with the choice wine. For the wine was served to a ruler that came to feast and his response was most use the best wine first and then the worsed but you choose the best wine for last. God choose both the best first and last, yet we fail to see it. His word to obey outlined in the garden, and the covering coming with the cross.

No one would of understood what Jesus meant until three years later, but the miracle was given to produce faith, that miracle became allegory for future believers, teaching of the miracle of the cross. The cup the wine a symbol of the blood shed for you and me, freely given. Faith builders seeing water turned to wine, why because those pots would contain so many gallons of water. Served to those present as the best wine. That Christ came to save us all with his blood covenant for you and me.

Dear Heavenly Father purge us with the wine that was poured out for each believer, purify us with your water that once drunk we never are thirsty again. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Luke 22:17-20 KJV
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.Luke 22:17-20 KJV
