The March Through The Gospels: Lesson 6 3/6/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 4:33-44 KJV
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.
42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them.
43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
Anyone ask how did the demons know who Jesus was? Were miracles enough, or was it the devil that told his angels about Jesus? No knows this answer to it but it is one of those things that pops in one's head when reading scripture that leaves for debate that has no evidence beyond the fact that Jesus came back from the wilderness from being tempted of the devil after forty days, and not is Macedonia around the sea of Galilee preaching in the synagogue when the demons of this man attack Jesus verbally, speaking truth of who Jesus is but Jesus rebukes him and commands demon to come out of the man, and Jesus power is shown to the people in the synagogue. Now remember these people probably were a mixed of Jews and Gentiles perhaps, they wonder what kind of power did Jesus have that could cast out demons and where it come from. This is why this crowd here had gentiles in it, Jews would of believe the power at least came from God, for the power of man could not cast out demons. Something else had to have happened. Power of God is known even to the gentiles of the world, but why is that power suddenly shown and displayed before them was perhaps the true question. The very demon had declare who Jesus was yet the people knew not he was the Son of God. It would take more information for them to know then a demon coming out of a man.
Then Simon(Peter) wife mother in law laid sick with fever, and Jesus went to his house and healed his mother in law who then waited on them. Then people began to show up and Jesus healed them until sunset. Many more had demons cast out of him and they declared Jesus was the Christ and Jesus rebuke not to speak of who he was. Jesus departed from the people into a solitary place in the desert and the people sought him and came to him, and tried to detain him from going elsewhere. Jesus response what he must go other places and preach about the Kingdom of God. He went and preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
The spread of the message of the kingdom came with healing and casting out of demons. Man wanted to detain him, and hold Jesus to be with them only maybe to use his power for money, the reason is unclear, but the fact is people wanted Jesus to stay because of the miracles and teaching. Different from his own hometown of Nazareth response. No one ask who was sending Jesus to other place to preach about the kingdom of God, but considering he was going into the synagogues the people would of perhaps thought it was the religious leaders who had authority to send teachers. We do not see religious order having authority over Jesus, nor while he walked the earth did he perform any sacrifice though he became the sacrifice. He could not of been part of the religious counsel because of him being Son of God. However if he had been part of religious order they could of order him to go and preach in other temples to earn his position, and perhaps been on a rotation of some sort. But he was under the authority of God and not serving under the traditional service at age 33 required by the Priesthood. However that not how scripture declares who Christ is subject to as far as ministry and he declared that he was about his Father(God)'s business. If man wants to ask then how could he preach in the Synagogue we must remember he did come from the levitical family, and if he did not take up his place in the levitical order because of who he was and is, he still had some authority to preach and to go into the syagogue to preach and teach because he was thought to be a prophet. Christ if not apart of the temple would of been walking on thin ice and perhaps castaway but he is not, he allowed to teach about the kingdom of God. And if you take time and Read Matthew 5 the sermon there you will see he is teaching about the kingdom of God, the same as John the Baptist was teaching beside the Jordan river before his imprisonmentand along with other religious leaders elsewhere. The word allowed is not really a good word because it denounces authority, but by God's authority Jesus preached about the Kingdom of God. Most seen Jesus at the minimum as a great prophet.
In this scripture continual study at the bottom of the page: if you will take time to read this portion takes place in scripture in John right before the passover and right after the raising of Lazarus. What is happening in John 11 that causes Caiaphas the Highest Priest declaring that one man must die for the nation. They were seeking peace to continue living as they were and not war, and yet Jesus taught those that would listen, both Jews and Gentiles about the kingdom of God. His expansion of the word of God had caused and uproar among the heathens that believed caused huge crowds to follow even before his own death. Instead of religious leaders embracing the faith being taught to a group and joining forces with Jesus they want to get rid of him and have life go back to normal. Yet even Roman soldiers had believed in Jesus. Why is there trouble because they found fault with Jesus methods of teaching outside the synagogue, allowing his disciples picking corn on the sabbath and breaking the law of the sabbath in this way. He even embarassed the leaders by calling them vipers and so forth. In his rebukes of them, it was causing trouble. Yet Jesus came in peace, taught in peace and only angered religious leaders and people he rebuked publicly that were trying to entrap him and rob those who were trying to listen.
Jesus never allowed man to do what they did as far as sin, instead he told them to repent and to turn from sin. His teaching was the same as the Pharisees and Sadducees. We see Jesus not as a rebel rouser, but as a God send to a people without Christ and who did not understand religious laws or customs. Yet if a prophet he had right to enter the temple as a teacher, and yet not part of the Priesthood or order of priesthood of that day. Yet Jesus would become a great High Priest over all nations like Melchizedek a High Priest at the time of Abraham. What is my point without the resurrection who would have believed yet prophecy spoke who Jesus was as Son of God and Prince of Peace. We can not deny that the Gospels in the Bible testify of Jesus of his healing ministry and casting out demons, and authority and power that people wanted to know where it came from. Basically that what you have to decide was the work of Jesus of God or the devil. Do you believe miracles are possible, that healings are possible and demon activity is real? Do you believe God is real first and for most? His power is not ours to control, but it was Jesus to do the work on earth as the only begotten Son of God. By His relationship with God he had the power to do the work of God.
Dear Heavenly Father, open the eyes of the blind to see the authority you gave your son that is succeeded the prophets of old but came from the same place as the prophets of old, meaning the power came from God the Father, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: John 11:46-53 KJV
46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
