turtle30cshell Daily Devotions For July 13, 2022
Unprofitable Servants
07/13/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 17:5-10 KJV
5 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
8 And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
9 Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

How many will agree there are things we do because it is our duty to do them? Whether as our family member, a friend or just publicly or privately it is the right thing to do, whether in total agreement or not. There many things in our world we do, but know not why we do them. Yet there things that if ask we do them because perhaps we care or simply our duty to do them. I know the other night the thought of baking cookies was beyond me, I had a long day and cookie baking was the last thing on my mind. Hubby was wanting something sweet and he really did not want brownies he enjoys baking again. It not that he can't make cookies, one of us just has that recipe memorize the other does not. Simply put he may of been a fraction a little less tired then I. I was at the point my eyes were not volunteerly staying open. I did my duty walking in my sleep as far as baking cookies and by the time I was finished baking I seem to be revived either from the sugar or sleeping while standing to make cookies. The only reason I made them for him was out of duty as a wife and two how many times lately he had gone the extra mile for me, when I have not been my usual self.

Point being it easy to do something when someone done it for you as example. Yet not as simple in reality to do it without good reason. A servant in the field has no choice but to continue his or her chores at the house when coming in from a hard day out in the field. Those that farm know how tasking that can be. And those who have raised a fairly good size garden can understand it little, but most of you city slickers understand not unless you done some type of labor job, where lifting bending all day is part of your duties and have had to come home to work once more cooking and preparing nourishment for one's family. Yet to work with no reward at all not even a simple thank you is often not understood by only an observer of dutiful labor and not a participant in that type of labor.

Jesus went to the cross out of duty as a servant of his Father in the flesh. Yet not only his duty, but he enter the kingdom of God never change his position in the royal palace as God's only begotten Son. As children of God it is our duty to share the Gospel of Jesus. Our duty despite their no greater reward then was was promised on the day we repented and believed in Jesus, taking him to be Lord of our life.

Part of moving the mountains in our life, is recognizing whose child we are, who servant we are, and what place is ours, not if we complete God's will, but when we complete his will for our life. To server God becomes our duty to do so in all humbless and in Christlike example, knowing the price here is nothing to what reward awaits us as children of God and jointheirs with Jesus.

To be Christlike is sometimes going beyond our ability at the moment and pressing forward to serve and aid another. Sometimes serving Christ is just being their to forgive and to show the compassion of Christ despite our human ability by Christ's Spirit. Our duty to serve Christ because he paid the price for our sins. Not because we get any great reward but out of love for what he accomplished through cross for you and me.

I can take you down the road to repentance but if I do not tell you about your duty as a christian to go and sin no more. If I fail to tell you that all you need to do is repent, for Christ has already paid the price for your sins. If do not tell you that if you fail to follow, that doesn't mean you can not turn back to the Lord, it means I fail to tell you that you are a King's kid from the day you repented the first time. Meaning there times you going to slip, you going to fall, because of your humanity, but it does not mean you strive to walk in that humanity but one strives to walk by God's Spirit that lives within you.

Why are you walking around with a frown and grumbling about the extra work you been given, because you lost focus of what is to come because it is promised to you. The hope and certainity of heaven is before you. Payment is yours as a believer already it called eternal life with God. There nothing you can do to gain eternal life beyond what you done by receiving God's free gift of salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

As a child of God we have a huge duty to our fellowman. Remember we are not our fellowman's servant but servants of God's Spirit. There is a huge difference of who you serve and work for. Elisha found out quickly when Elijah cast his mantle(cloak) on him, that it was not to follow Elijah in his duty as prophet, but to work for God. Our duty is not to man when it coms to sharing the Gospel, it is to take up the cross and follow who? That is right Jesus. It not to follow our friends in faith, or our family in faith but to follow Jesus. If we can understand that principal we understand whose child we are, what duties we have as children in the kingdom of God. Do you not realize everyone does a chore in their household, so it is in God's kingdom, we all have a responsibility. There is no extra reward for what you do for God then the next person, but failure to do his will, is no honor in God's house. Failing to be the human hand extended is making yourself into the devil and not a child of the king. Remember the devil believed and trembles but he is not entering the kingdom of God for eternity, he has already been cast out with all his angels. Whose child are you and what is your duty? Whose child are you and are you going to serve God waiting on the promise of being a joint heir with Jesus?

We want to see mountains moved we must realize whose child we are and the duties we perform are because of whose child we are. After all who did not do chores growing up? Who did not learn to take instruction from someone, in learning about responsibility. If you want to live as a family member in God's kingdom you got to learn to serve here first in this world.

Dear Heavenly Father, our duty to serve you is without reward beyond becoming a child of God and doing our earthly chores for you. Knowing that when the doors are open wide, and we enter those pearly gates we are like Jesus as joint heirs, receiving the royal robe and a crown. That as a child of God, we are his sons and daughters. Help us to do your will on earth, and to wait for the promise of eternal life. in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 8:17 KJV
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Romans 12:1-5 KJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
