Responsiblity To Change 07/05/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisRomans 8:1-14 KJV
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
A responsibility to change is the title of this devotion. Yet it more then just a title but a commanded that is upon us as believers. There no condemnation if we walk after who? We must walk after the Spirit of God, speaking of the HOly Spirit. To be spiritual minded is life and peace. The law of the Spirit has made the believer in Christ free from the law of sin and death. All sin leads to death. We want to lable abomination called sin as only 7 deadly sins. And yet all sins are deadly to us, but there is sin that God does not input on us as believers. David found that God did not seem to hold him accountable for every mistake, and yet he was accountable to God. Does it mean that their sin overlooked. David ate the shewbread from the temple in the area he was in. It cause Saul to kill men of the priesthood that given David bread and Goliath sword. Yet God did not punish the Priesthood, man did. Was it sin for David to eat the shew bread. Religious law was not to make man suffer but to be a reminder of faith, eating the shew bread itself by the soldiers and future king of Israel, was not a crime. The Priesthood had given David and his men protection and strengthen them with food. They provide David with Goliathe sword. That was the crime against King Saul. David intention was not to have anyone die for him, or protect him, but God's people did with a price. David's body in need of food, but the aid caused Saul to have them kill. Saul was walking after evil spirit that did not want David to have power, yet David had been loyal to Saul. There is time in our life we obey God and it cause another to be hurt, but it more noted to know the one that caused the hurt or harm in the first place was probably not in obedience to God. (I Samuel 21-22)
The flesh nature seen in Saul, before his own soldiers and the priesthood, because of his jealousy. Saul's true nature showing as king. Our fleshly nature if followed will cause us harm in the end. Under Jewish law without sacrifice there was no forgiveness for sin. With Christ all sin is paid for through the cross. Saul as king followed his on fleshly desire, even to the point the sacrifice he made to God early on in his career as king was not a sacrifice of faith but done because of popularity. Samuel correct him and he seen no harm in his action. God had punished Saul in a previous story by taking his Spirit out of his life. Realize he was to wait for Samuel to come to perform the sacrifice. God ordains who can perform certain duties of faith. David eating the shewbread with his men was okay as no had been with his wife. It had to do with bread being holy. However strict orders had been given by Samuel for Saul to wait for him to perform the sacrifice of faith.
Right now we make a concious choice to obey God or not obey God. Everyone is able to go to the throne of God on their own through prayer to ask for forgiveness of sin and ask Jesus into their heart. No minister needed for this but the Holy Spirit to convict the heart to do so. If you desire fellowship with Jesus, he will come into your heart through faith in him that he died for your sins and the sins of the world. That he rose again the third day, evidence of a new begining for all that would follow in Christ footsteps and take up their cross and follow him. Our cross to fully be in obedient to Christ our Lord and Savior upon faith in him.
It not usual for man to still follow the fleshly nature from time to time. Yet the blood of Jesus covers all our sin. However we are not to strive to fulfill the fleshly nature that taunts us. We are to instead walk by the Spirit. God understands when we fail, because of humanity, that why he made a way for us not to fail if we only believe his word and follow him. His word said believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. Yet the talk of obeying the Spirit is for our benefit that we know that God's not please by the things that are disobedient to his Spirit. We all struggle with obedience. However our obedience is out of love for him, not because of some earthly obligation to do so. We lay our evil desires down for Jesus.
Dear Heavenly Father, every child of God struggles with the flesh, struggles with the desire to do evil from time to time just like the rest of humanity. To obey you is to honor you. There is nothing we do to repay a free gift you gave us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
