Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Romans 7:14-25 KJV
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

What is liberty? What is Independence from the law of man or God. Can you really serve sin and get by with it? I see the law is good and then see that sins dwells in me as individual, we all must understand that sin dwells in our very nature of our flesh. To not to know this law exist does not mean one has the right to break it, for even sinners know how to love one another. What does this mean in reality that God's law of love is greatest commandment given to man. Yet within man dwells a law of evil. Now the law of evil is not love and the opposition is present in our life as a non believer and a believer in God. Without believing in God a sense of love still exist in man. If I delight in the law of love and not relish evil then the law of love still exist and I choose evil then I am choosing the wrong road. For the devil believes in God but choose evil and not love.

Yet to live in sin by the law and in my heart love, it is in conflict to the law of God, because spiritually speaking I obeyed God, but physically in the flesh disobeyed God. You got two families that become one family due to marriage. However, the two families are only now part that family because of love of the couple that married. Sometimes the two families only get along because of the people in the middle. They do the things of unity and yet behind their back the law of disunity to their friends and other family members called gossip. Both groups not understanding the other making it harder for the couple to endure the nagging of inlaws or biological family.

I live in area, where marriage within the family occurs. It is usually a distant enough cousin that this issue of difference is usually not a wide span that often occurs in city areas, or difference by distances. It is like one culture vs another in truth is often all it is, but it the enability to adapt to change or make allowance for the differences that causes friction. In truth it not that no one can not get along, it how long can one side or the other hold out before they speak and tell the other in truth what they think. Tap dancing to keep the harmony of the married couple intact.

What does this have to do with evil and love and obedience to one or both. The married couple trying to fit into both worlds, one came from one group and the other came from the other group. Evil and love is like that. Sometimes evil seems good. Sometimes the idea of revenge is delightful, Sometimes gossip is a form of emotional release, sometimes for those that are participants in sexual immorality it feels good, but it is not love. Is gratifying the need verses what true love is. Love is kind, gentle, hope and faith. Love is not love without correction. Love is many things and yet true love is God.

If we are going to talk about God's law it is truly about love. In Paul's heart he thinks he in love spiritually with God but in the flesh he obeys the flesh, This is not okay and is not liberty. Paul is wrestling and he talking fromt he world point of view of how faith in Christ seems to them. But in reality he seen law of sin in his life that could become a ruler if he allowed it to be. Because he found his heart could love and his action were often not loving. Both sides of the couples family unit loved the couple, but in reality they loved not the things that were evil in each others life, that it caused them to sin in the form of gossip. Some just simple personality traits and some thing did just not sink in what they would do in the same situation. Yet both loved, and so we sin by our love? No, love is of God.

Paul has two laws that love him, but one not wanting what best for him, the law sin and the law of love. Two laws in opposition, both satisfying in the flesh, but not always beneficial to the flesh. The outward nature of man is the fleshly nature. The inward man which is spiritual, might be saying to love but the outward show is in defiance. See there things of evil that some call love and in truth is not. Yet it is often a correction that evil to teach love. In other words the opposite being used to teach a lesson. It like the child touching a hot object only to be slightly burnt or bruised once seems less harmful then one day he jumps into the fire, not realize how hot it truly is. It the fall that keeps a child from falling again. It is the stubbing of a toe that makes one stop running and slow down in certain areas where that toe might more easily catch the object that causes it to get hurt. Thus we see evil no longer evil but a lesson learned.

No the battle real, because if you knew in the first place not to, then why did you? Your desire greater then to obey God. What then is sin okay because we covered by the blood Jesus upon belief in the law of God? The answer is no. It sounds as if Paul trying to liberate the sinner and say it okay you sin because you believe in the law of God to love spiritually. You believe in Christ, so you have permission to sin? No you do not have permission to sin. Something else must occur, it called Romans 8. We want eternal life and it is free gift, but actions speak whose child we are. It speak who child we are not. Even good people without faith have not the law of God but it writen as being good within them to love each other, and to do good to each other.

Did then did the Holy write anything new in man only the authorship of the law, the signant ring, the seal, the mark of the covenant with man. Unmark whose law is it man's or God's? We must ask how imporant is the seal it tells whose child we are.

Yet it seems by the law of Christ we have the permission to sin, for we are then spiritually born again and spiritually can not sin against God but often sin in the flesh, not because we believe evil is better, but it our outward show of humanity. Our inward person speaks something else. In truth that where that guilt trip is coming from, the inward man, that spiritual voice both yours and the Holy Spirit saying sin is sin, and obeying God is right.

If God's law is liberty, then we understand the law does not cause crime, punishable by mans law and it does not cause sin to reign but the love of God to reign through Christ Jesus. The woman at the well had a bucket to fill, yet when Jesus asked her for water, she did not have anything for him to drink out of. Not even to pour the water into his hands. Instead it lead to discourse of question and finally the woman seeking the village men to see if this was the Christ. Common curtesy would allowed Jesus a drink of water even if it was to pour the water into his hands.

We look at the simplely the woman belief that Christ was coming but she lived in the nature of her flesh. Two parts warring within the woman, to receive this man as the Messiah, and yet not sure, so she goes and tells the village. God law of love not displayed to Christ but Christ displayed love to the woman. We often believe and follow the law of the flesh and not the law of God. Inward we want to seek God's way and not our own, but we do not. Liberty can only come if we seek it God's way. To follow the ways of God by the Spirit into outward man. Sin my friend comes at a price no matter what you believe. Israel believed in God and yet sin cast them into exile.

Paul is talking not about continual sin, but sin that often comes as quick as kicking the table's leg. It comes to all of man, because we are not aware to obey the Spirit yet. We believe in God and believe Jesus is the Son of God and that he can give us eternal life. Yet we live in the flesh never receiving the gift of salvation because we desire not to obey God. To spiritually be born again, we must desire to love because God desires us too. Not because man declares to be nice, but God declared it. Recognizing whose authority gave the rule and not accepting of man's declaration has final authority, but accepting God's final authority in the matter. Our liberty coming from the obedience to the law of love which is the law of liberty.

Dear Heavenly Father we see Paul wrestling about a subject he understood well, but it is for our benefit to understand the two laws that man is wrestling with. One being spiritual and one being of the flesh. One of the flesh not leading to spiritual life but spiritual death. Without the knowledge we can not have eternal life, because we fail to see the law of love and who the author of love is. Help us to love Lord as you loved us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Galatians 5:13-14 KJV
13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
