Loving God: Lesson 20
2/23/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 7:11-16 KJV
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

What is love, but simplicity of sometimes restoration when it not warranted, or necessarily due. I think of God giving back Abraham's son when he demonstrated he would sacrifice his own son if required to honor God. Yet God said he would provide the sacrifice for sin. Makes one wonder about the sacrificial law that continued until the time of Christ, if God was going to provide it for our sins, but yet would we have understood it without the continual sacrifice for sin needed as a testimony for us that are sin was paid for before Christ? The tangible sacrifice of Christ was not paid to God but to man, if you think on it. The law insurrection the law of paying for sin of another like Christ paying the price of Barrabas's sin as a subsitutionary sacrifice for sin. Sin debt was not retained because of sacrificial act, but the words spoken on the cross, of Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Forgiveness coming with repentance to God, but payment going to cross for payment of Roman law. With Christ resurrection we see man's law overcome by Christ resurrection. Jesus came preaching and teaching forgiveness for sin. Yet man felt a gift had to be given to be forgiven. Yet Jesus had to suffer, through beating that pour out his blood for you and I, and the nailing to the cross for the sin and death of a man, not caused by Christ. Christ then turns and says to the crowd "forgive them Father for they know not what they do". Powerful statement in Luke 23:34 KJV. Then man sees Christ die, and three days later resurrected only to continue to teach his people a little longer before He ascends into heaven.

Death is a part of life and the mother, in todays scripture taken from Luke 7:11-16, is grieving for her only son as the men of the village carry him out of the city to be buried. Jesus is filled with compassion, and he goes and resurrects the young man and gives him to his mother. Compassion to not have to sacrifice a son for whatever reason, the reason he died is unclear, but the compassion of Christ is real. God's compassion for us when Christ says forgive is real and demonstrated three days later through the resurrecton. We must stop how simple is the words forgive truly is. Yet we know not even if this boy's sin had caused his death. It was the simple rising from the dead. Fear came upon those that witness it and they glorified God. Did they understand it, probably not but they knew the boy had been returned to his mother. Just like Christ would be returned to His Heavenly Father, and his earthly mother(for a short time). Point is the compassion and the love of God is unyielding. Yet there is a heaven and hell. Yet Christ is touched by our infirmities, by our sorrow and by our pain. Touch enough to make a life change that we can not see in the future of anyone it will effect. That resurrection would be known for a life time in that city of the boy and the mother as long as they were there to bare witness and anyone that seen it. Yet the purpose if nothing else was to glorify God. Even the prophet Elijah resurrected the boy of the shumanite woman in the Old Testament. They seen Jesus clearly as a prophet, yet they knew not he was Lord.

Many understand not who Jesus is, they start out with the understanding he is declared to be God's son, a prophet and so forth, but they do not grasp his divinity until God reveals it to them. There is a learning curve to faith in Christ, and it begins with knowledge of who he is. God revealing his love to us comes with a process of understanding. It it also comes with understanding he is touch by our sorrow, fears, our pain and so forth. To know he cares enough to deliver us when our burden is to great to bare any longer. God knows our suffering and our pain. God wants to heal us first of the one thing that keeping us from receiving his gift of love, his gift of hope, and faith. It might not mean a person in a wheel chair will walk in his or her life time, but it might mean a person comes to terms of their situation and no longer feel the need to blame God. Like going through eye trouble, no use blaming God, pray for healing and forgiveness of any sin, and so forth and wait on God. Who's know I may be able to see some the rest of my life and not be totally blind. Yet our bodies age and change and in truth we all have to accept changes. This instant of resurrection in the city of Nain was a witness that a great prophet had come. Perhaps they listen to Jesus for a time, or maybe it was a passing by and going on, to return to witness in this city.

If our healing is for God's glory, then we should realize a revival should come with it if not for anyone but ourselves, but let us share so others can have faith too. Lazarus rose up from the grave was that not a testimony to of God's ability especially after four days in the grave. Jesus rose on the third day of having died. Not even a total of 48 hours in the grave. His resurrection for us to have hope in eternal life, that we can have a do over because God loves us and we are resurrected into the newness of Christ and faith in him.

God is touched by our infirmities are there not those around us still that testify who Jesus is, who God and the Holy Spirit is through prayer, action, faith, and service to God. Anyone coming to testify after Christ is only who a disciple, prophet, or a minister of Christ. These people are not God, they just have the gift from the Father above to share his truth with those around them with gifts of healing, prophesy, teaching and so forth. They are not the miracle worker, only God is. They can pray for your miracle, and your healing. They can pray for you, but they can not confess your sins to God, only you can. Our desire for intercessor was our own need, but one provided by God the Father.

Dear Heavenly Father you love us, and forgave us without the need for sacrifice, but you provided the sacrifice for sin, because we looking for a way to pay for our sin to make restitution ourselves, and nothing we can do can make a mends when we fail you, but the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our sins saved us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 9:26-28 KJV
26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
