Loving God: Lesson 14
2/17/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 7:36-50 KJV
36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

I often wonder of late of who going to be the loudest of people I know to shout when they are healed in heaven. Those who are healed on earth, know if you had a great disease, or pain, to begin shouting in praise one never wants to cease. Some would say perhaps including myself that is partly why I still writting, but I think of that day when Christ heals us all and wipes way all our tears, that we are also standing in his presence rejoicing, who going to be the quietest of all and who will shout the most. There is a quiet reverence but it tells no one of what God has done for you and there is a loud shout that perhaps better left unheard, but with joy that shout is definitely understood if it a miracle. I write this for those charismatic friends that just can not be quiet about what God has done even for a second and for those that choose to humble share faith, you have a place in the kingdom too, but who loves Jesus more, the shouter or the silent one. We talk about the issue of testimonies and fail to see the one testimony of those surround a person when they are healed, or delivered from sin. Despite Biblical reports of healing one does not really get the shouter as we see today. Have you wonder what is different, why are some people rejoicing louder then others, is because of their love for Jesus, or the need to proclaim his work in their life that even in their sin he delivered them and healed them physically, spiritually and emotionally. Even in the covering of the blood of Christ he still continue to reach down despite our humanity unbelief.

I struggle when i see people not healed and delivered from whatever, and I realize that this is not in my power to control, that each of us is responsible to seek God for answer of the wait, then I remember the blind man not healed for over fifty years in scripture and I have to ask, how come fifty years and not before, because perhaps the guilt of sin that the leaders laid on the parents kept them from reaching up to God for their son. Where is the deliverance, when Jesus healed his eyes, when he proclaimed the blindness was not because of sin of either the parents or the man born blind. When Jesus touched him and healed him, he was healed and then later told him to sin no more when Jesus found him walking around.

Is our healing for forgiveness when the world is pointing fingers with accusations or when we deal with God in our heart? Many repent at the altar in a church, but have you ever spent time in scripture and alone with God spiritually speaking, if there is anything not clean in your life God will and can deal with it through his word alone in your quiet time with him. In my experience that sinners cry to the believer that they are sinner just like them, and because they see no difference in your life and theirs they see no need for repentance. I am talking about the goody two shoe non believer. The one that has all their ducks in the right row going in the right direction, perfectly, and not able to see the heart of their own soul, the pride the attitude of your like me, why repent and so forth. When the believer looks at them they understand the plight of the unbeliever, because they are looking at what man can see and not what God sees. They too know that it a matter of the heart alone, not what is seen always clearly on the outside. So those with a life that messed up, God sees it but he also knows your need of forgiveness too, you might not have it perfectly but neither does the goody two shoe christian or the unbeliever. Choose God's salvation today.

In the scripture passage today we see a harlot washing the feet of Jesus with her tears, and drying them with her hair. She had nothing to offer, not even oil for his head or his feet, but her tears washed his feet and she took what she had her hair to dry his feet, and she kissed his feet. Now those that unaware of cultural foot washing was something done for travelers, visitors, or self because of bare feet or sandals allowed alot of dust to collect on the feet that would come into a house, but if one washed at the door that dirt remained there. Simon a Pharisee was angry at the woman and ask Jesus why he allowed this harlot to sit at his feet, it was not tracked in. Jesus had just finished telling the story of two debtors one with more debt then the other but both being broke owed this one creditor. Who loved the creditor more the one that was forgiven more or the one forgiven less, and Simeon answer the one that been forgiven more he guessed. He reminded Simeon of the foot washing, the drying of the feet and anointing of the head. Yet this woman did so for Jesus, and I said her sins are forgiven, and her faith has made her whole, Simeon your sins are forgiven but you do nothing I say to do. You show no custom of hospitality, you show no love or forgiveness and I see no compassion, and yet you are forgiven too. Who loved Jesus more, the one that understood what Jesus did for them.

Our own blindness to our actions are sometimes so gross that we fail to see our own need of santification in our blindness to truth. The woman no doubt shamed Pharisee Simeon without ever saying a word but through her actions of love and worship to Jesus. My question who will shout more in heaven on the day of final healing from the pain and suffering as we know it in our bodies. The answer is its not how much we shout, or how silent we are, but it is a heart matter, do we love Jesus. Can we praise him for the work he completes in our life, the healing in our life, the healing from sin and forgiveness of knowing God only see the blood covering over our sins once they are paid upon receiving Christ as Lord and Savior. It not about how much is one forgiven, it how much do we love God and Christ back and are willing to obey him in honor and respect of his love for us when we were yet seep in sin. That what it is about. OUr forgiveness comes with repentance, but the work of grace for us came before our repentance of sin. "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosever belief in him should not perish but have everlasting life"(John 3:16). Yet with repentance comes forgiveness of sin. Our belief is what God did for us because of his love for us and the purpose he did it. We know despite our sin we have eternal life with God upon confession of all our sins. With faith. With turning away from sin, there is deliverance from sin. That is through faith in Christ Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your love for us "while we were yet sinners Christ died for us"(Romans 5:8). Lord we love you because you thought of us and planned a way of escape from your wrath to come, when we only believe and turn from our sin. Because to believe also produces action in our life to do good works because it is the fruit of the Spirit, who comes and lives in our hearts with faith in Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 10:9-11 KJV
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
