Loving God: Lesson 6 2/09/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisHosea 2:1-23 KJV
1 Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ruhamah.
2 Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;
3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.
4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.
5 For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.
7 And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
8 For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.
9 Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.
11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.
12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.
13 And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the LORD.
14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.
15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
16 And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.
17 For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.
18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.
19 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.
20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;
22 And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.
23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.
The Prophet Hosea call to marry a harlot. knowing full well she might commit adultry and he still marries harlot. God had ordained this marriage to symbolize and to teach Israel about their own unrighteousness. Read all about her children and her marriage to her husband in the first chapter, but it did not stop her from sinning by whoredom or adultery. As the story goes to chapter two the sinning begins perhaps at a time the children about grown or old enough to know what their mother is doing anyway. Hosea was going to put brambles or wall around his property so she could not find the door, meaning he was going to strip her and display her to the world and not let her back into his home. That is what God was going to do to Israel. They would get their fill of Egypt and turn back to him. Egypt meaning the life of false prophets and untruths. God was going to let them have all the pleasures of the world, tell they eating from the pig stys of meat not even good to eat, in others words they find themselves in their filth and remember God's people were taken care of better then this, and turn back to the God of their ancestory. He made a covenant with them and remove the devils name baali out of their lips. And Israel will once again produce corn, wine and oil and the world will hear of Israel and their God once more.
The condition of Israel and condition of Hosea wife taken from life style as a harlot and place in to hear about God and receive God and his way of living. The harlot turns away only to be renew to repentance in order to be a witness to those around Israel once more. One's own backsliding is playing the harlot, yet even in ones own backsliding we might be choosing a life style that is adultery from God like worship of idols. Yet it not always the bowing of the knee, but the choosing of not following in the ways of God that causes Israel's own whoredom from God. It a life style of disobedience and not always idolatry seeable to the human eye, but as long as we do not follow in the footstep or pathway God designed for us by God then we are no in sin. Hosea taking the wife of whoredom and marrying her and creating a family was not sin, but it never became sin for Hosea only his wife. The minute his wife stepped out of her wedding vows and chased after other men she was in sin. What was her sin but sexual pleasure. It was not concerning law or faith, it was about her desires and lust of her physical needs that caused her sin. Instead of staying with her husband and helping him help her, she chased after others to do for her what Oh Hosea must not of been. Hosea's wife would have wealth and the ability of provision from her whoredom, only until those the things of this world that provided for her survival were gone, that she would remember the goodness of her husband. She returns to what she lost to be able to survive now to only bare witness to Israel that if they return to God he will heal them and take them out of bondage of exile from the land of Israel.
Hosea not sinful in his commitment to his wife, but his wife was adultress in her marriage. Hosea the prophet God called him to be, did not go after another, but built a fence around his home that she could not figure how to enter the property. Without repentance the gate of his home would not be open to her. This story similiar to the prodigal son that Jesus told in Luke 15:11-32. In that chapter we see the son returning after running out of all of his inheritance only to find himself living in a pig sty, eating from the trough of the pigs. Yet when he realizes what he left behind and that servants were treated better then he was in his father's house does he return and repents to his father, who puts a new robe on him and his ring, giving back what was lost to him. God was the Father and he would show the mercy to all of Israel that would return to him with first their heart and in obedience to him. And anyone that seen God's mercy and wanted to following in the ways of God, he would give them the right to be saved through his Son Jesus.
Only until one reaches rock bottom can the see the hope of faith and God's mercy in their situations. Enough to know if they cry to God, God will restore them to a relationship with him. The world for centuries since the beginning of time really have practiced the idea of God mercy with repentance. Many who been in the gutter turnning to God for help, only to know once they received it turned from him, only to return back to their own vomit in the gutter. Not until they could full focus on their saving grace could they understand God's mercy and grace. We can not try religion for a moment of time, only to slip back into a need of repentance? Not until we can get our heart right with God and in submission to his will, his way, our ways will only lead to disaster. It okay to fall, it not okay to remain. It not okay sin, but humanity sometimes does not see the wrong. Not until we take three steps the wrong direction do we see our error. Our job is to turn back to Jesus, To love God with all our heart, and not to fall from his path that he has created for us.
Our journey maybe a struggle, our journey to that golden streets in heaven, might be dirt road of life, with blessings along life way, but when we reach that golden street, there will be no more bumps, twists or turns, it be a straight path to the throne of God. Is God's mercy and Grace the reason you love God today. You know how much following in Christ footsteps is his saving grace in your life. Nothing wrong with being in a place of sin, but do not remain there to sin. Hosea could of got plenty of woman, but he waited for his wife to return. She have to hit rock bottom in order to know the goodness of her husband.
Do you know the goodness of God and what faith is really about. Many old age find Christ still saves, yet the young know too, and with this knowledge and innocent rebeling, God grace is still applied. It does not give a person a license to sin, but the license or free will to turn from wickedness, repent and come back into the family of God, not as a servant but a child of God. Only as servant to his calling in your life to see others saved too.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace and salvation, thank you for continuing your love even in my sin, by waiting for me to reach my rock bottom to turn to you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Luke 15:21-32 KJV
21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
