Loving God: Lesson 5 2/08/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisIsaiah 6:1-13 KJV
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
7 And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.
10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,
12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.
13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.
The reverence Isaiah has for God is evidence of his love for God, but even so, Isaiah is taken back when he becomes aware he "seen the king, the Lord of Hosts". Uzziah had died, and that when Isaiah realize this new King was not godly, and God was still on the throne of Israel. A king not in submission to God, but it did not change the fact God was still the God of Israel. Uzziah ways had been prosperous in all his under taking. He built bridge and improve the nation. He kept his eyes focused on God. It interesting our own country is so focused on science and science itself does not always believe in God, though some with in their groups speak Bible they continue to look for evidence of God through science. The other day I seen an interesting article that proves water was before dirt. This does not mean the science that discovered this knows God, it only back scripture in Gensis. That is a personal decision. Does science desire God to be on the throne will always be the question. What am I saying, is science can become a type of god for some? Perhaps. but God reigns even over science. What science can do, God can go beyond the speed of science, beyond even the speed of light. Despite all man does in submission to God there will be someone to look to them as a god, or godlike. Someone power of control, or knowledge does not make them God. Yet God demands of us to use the talents we have to better our own life and life of others. Isaiah sees himself and his nation as people of unclean lips, not because of swearing but giving honor to the king in Godlike fashion. Yet he only man, and the godly king Uzziah after his death remind Isaiah of that fact.
Isaiah was called to be a prophet long before this event, but it like all of sudden it smacked him in the face he was not in full submission of his call to God. His lips of praise going to man and not in reverence or thankfulness toward God. Now he was not physically smacked, it is expression in the south, it smacks one in the face, does not mean a literal hit. More of a shock, or realization of truth of a matter, that it humbled Isaiah before God's throne. He experienced the presence of God, seen God fully has he was, yet no eyes have seen the Lord according to I John 4:12. What does this mean, Isaiah did not see God? God we must remember is Spirit. If we look deeper into the words seen the king the Lord of Hosts, the word king does change appearance of who on the throne but the word Lord of Hosts, represent the battle king of armies. Like every nation has leaders in the world and they are power over their military. It like playing chess, and having control of the kingdom until your last man is taken. Well the top guy been taken, nope the king of kings and Lord of Host is still in power. Isaiah is seeing the physical being of God, Jehovah, though God is Spirit, in the garden of Eden and through out Genesis and part of Exodus he shows himself as a being, and not just Spirit. God in Genesis three walked in the garden searching for Adam and Eve, yet in Genesis one God's Spirit hover over the waters.
This manifestation of God is real, but no one has ever seen the Spirit of God.(I John 4:12). Isaiah call is the same call we all have, yet will we go for God. Uzziah had done God's will while on the throne. The evidence of God came after his death. Why after, because often we see the work and actions of the flesh, but not the spirit that produced those actions in individual life. I talking about being lead by Spirit of God as a believer. You want to be so lead that people see Christ in you, the love of God in you, and the dedication and love you have for God. This weekend and Monday I wrote about several of the prophets calls during turbulance time in their world and their call to love God and the nation they served. Isaiah call came with a reminder of God so great when the next king who name was Ahaz had not the same regard for the God of Israel has King Uzziah and even did that which was evil. The image of God and the image of evil, are not the same, yet the prophesy of God wrath might seem evil to some, Isaiah prophesy were about the hope of salvation, about Christ and about his redeeming love. Two images of God clashing, no not in reality. Even evil parents punish their children sometimes correctly. God being a God of love, it hard to imagine him a God of wrath. Yet for centuries he allowed the devil to do evil upon the earth, with a day of reckoning coming for him, his angels and his followers. What is God's revenge to perform what the devil wants on the devil, and that God's wrath.
Isaiah is anoint by a seraphim(angel) with a hot coal. That had to burn. Though many thing are spiritual this is a physical manifestation, more then a vision, yet maybe particially vision. Yet the coal of his lips was to purify his mouth. To enable his mouth to praise God with thanksgiving. God had allowed Isaiah to be a witness of the throne and who was in charge at a time when Israel seem to have a leader in control that was not godly. What had happened, had he seen the wrath of the king, had he become frighten, we really do not know fully the imaginery portraited here in Isaiah. Yet God only had his lips purge and not the whole body.
God wants to know who should he send and who would go for him, and Isaiah says, "here am I send me". He seen his role through King Uzziah, and seen the need to be that witness of what was to come, what would be to the people of faith In Israel. Isaiah love for God despite perhaps manifested strongly by good leadership that had faith. The fostering of others must come with love, and not wrath or revenge. If all you see is hate, it is hard to love. Love of God must be deeper then anything not of God around you. Your heart must be ready to love in ministry, in testimony, in walk of faith, and the only way this happens is through the gifts of God's spirit, because often it not in ourselves to love as God loved us. Simple reason we are not God. We loose love ones, have accident, have illness, family has illness, significant other has trouble and so on, and one gets angry with God, because what we see is not from a loving God. We know God can be revengeful and so we take our anger, resentment of things that go wrong in our life out on God. Not every evil and hurtful act is from God. However God is in control and his power is eternal. He does not always stop bad things from happening, but it does not mean we do not pray or ask.
I have known people that have died, that their fate was totally in God's hands, but also knew that when the hurt of loss was over the timing of death looking back was right, but only looking backwards, not at the present or moment of death of a love one. Nation was falling away from God just like Isaiah they to struggled with imagery of man in power, verse the power of God. Isaiah knew God grace and love for him, and he could and would share it with Israel. Isaiah lips and heart need a little sanctification.
When you see a fellow believer stumble, remember God maybe wanting to purge that rock out of their path, or patch the hole that the believer stumbling on in the fall. It is not our place to correct, but to love and to build them up in the truth of God's word. However as the saying goes in Matthew 7, you got to get the mote(log)out of your own eye first. Isaiah had been purge with a hot coal by serphims(the evil king).
Dear Heavenly Father, purge our hearts so we can help others, help us see your true love so we can be bearers of the fruit of love. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: 1 John 4:7-13 KJV
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
