What Did Mary Know 12/15/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 1:46-56 KJV
46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
54 He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
55 As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Mary understood that future generation would call her blessed. Mary understood that God was her Savior. She understand He was mighty and had done to her a great things and his only name. God mercy was from generation to generation. He showed Strength with his arm, and scatter the proud in imagination and in heart. He satisfied the hungry and sent the wealthy away empty handed. He help Israel remember his mercy. He spoke to their father Abraham and to his seed forever.
Mary did she understand who the Messiah was, Did she know that this boy would grow to be a man and would change the heart of the people to faith in him and God the Father. Did she understand all that was coming in days ahead. She knew enough that God would take her through the valley and over the mountaintops of her faith. That he would show her mercy and grace. Is that enough. It was for Mary as she seen her cousin five month pregnant when her ability to pregnant had become zero to none and yet she was. Mary knew as life grew within her that God had favored her and she was called blessed among the women of faith.
Did she understand at this point about the cross and that her Son would take away the sins of the world, probably no more then anyone else understood at this point. She would follow her son to his Cross, weep and John one the disciples would care for her. Right now there was only joy in her heart that she been chosen and that this baby was important to Israel and the world.
As we think on what Mary knew by scripture, we can see Mary held hope already in her heart even before the cross. Not fully understanding but would know in time the message of the cross. Mary the mother of Jesus special indeed, but not one to worship or idolize, but to take notice of her faith and her trust that God would perform all the angel had declare to her.
Dear Heavenly Father, Let us not take for granted for just the simplicity of faith of our own faith, of how litle we truly understand and yet you continue to unfold in our life about our own faith in you. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: John 19:25-27 KJV
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
