The Virgin Prophesied 12/05/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisIsaiah 7:1-25 KJV
1 And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
2 And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.
3 Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field;
4 And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.
5 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying,
6 Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal:
7 Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.
8 For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people.
9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.
10 Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.
16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.
17 The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.
18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
19 And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.
20 In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall nourish a young cow, and two sheep;
22 And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.
23 And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, it shall even be for briers and thorns.
24 With arrows and with bows shall men come thither; because all the land shall become briers and thorns.
25 And on all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns: but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of lesser cattle.
The need for sign was not necessary for King Ahaz but the need for a sign to Israel was proclaimed to him. I suspect he did not think he see the change in Israel in his day. The idea of requesting a sign of God to him was tempting God though he was not a godly man himself. We can understand this prophet would come to him and speak to him about God and about prophesy. And this one time God had told Isaiah to go to him and ask him to request a sign and he would not request one, which was in disobedience to God. Yet Isaiah had to tell Ahaz the sign. The sign of prosperity in his land of Israel and a virgin birth, meaning a child was to be born by a virgin, no man would have touch her.
There two ways to understand this chapter. Israel was no longer producing foreign fruit of faith, Israel was not productive in bring people to God and they had come out of exile and only allowed their people to rebuild the temple and the time of expansion was forcasted as Israelites learned about faith they would increase signs of faith into the heathen nation around them. Much like a virgin giving birth without God involvement because it was the law that was sought after by those not receiving God. Rome and others seen the prosperity of Israel in their homeland and desired it. Israel had been enslaved and had only the remnant of believers to come out and return to teach about faith. It was a time of great awaking when the Messiah came teaching, preaching, healing, and performing works by his own power of demonstration of who he is. It was testimony of preaching words of knowledge in the open field to the gentile nation about God and evidence of who the Messiah was to them and to Jews that believed that he was the only begotten Son of God. He was the product of virgin birth of Israel and God product of his word. but also the virgin birth of his mother Mary.
Mary virginity was evidence need for the priesthood, but many did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah. The need for a physical manifestation of virginity of Israel was needed in regard to help in the expansion of not only Word of God and knowledge of God but who the messenger of God truly was and is. When this time period occurred was in a time period of prosperity and wealth. Food of butter, milk and honey in abundance in the land of Israel. Sheep and cattle and so forth. A time of peace and safety but not any more then in our world today.
The time of the Messiah was something that had not been seen in Israel or by Israelites for a long time. It was time of prosperity they all hope and desired though and under a foreign king. Though I painting a picture restoration of Israel in preparation for the Messiah, the spiritual awakening was fixing to begin with the news of the coming Messiah. Isaiah speech to Ahaz was on the otherside of the destruction of Israel. Was on the otherside of God's back being against Israel. The time of exile had not occured yet. Yet beside the time of destruction given in Ahaz day a promise of hope to him was given for him and the people, if they would turn and seek him. A king in the need of hope a sign was given that destruction would not be permanent for Israel, nor would exile be long lasting but a time would come of the Messiah.
The great sign of the Messiah would be a baby born of virgin. The enemies of God need to hear about the hope of eternal life. They need to know about faith brings the security of a better eternity, a better way of life and prosperity even in times of destruction. Even when the world is upside down and inside out, God is still providing hope for his people and others in exile in unbelief. Is it any hard to believe in a virgin birth then the return of the Messiah. Is it any hard to preach and to speak of the hope of the coming Messiah message in scripture and the return of the Messiah being the same way he left, being taken up into the clouds and to return in like manner. Mankind searches for evidence of Christ return but scriptures tell us it will be like in the days of Jonah and Noah. Days of revival and wild living, days of destructive spiritual behavior of unbelief. Yet those that believe in Christ return struggle with the thoughts of those that believe not. Those that believe had the only evidence need and that the grace of Christ in their heart, both physically and spiritually. For the day we believed in Christ as Messiah and Lord was the day our hearts swelled and enlarged to hold the Messiah, meaning not that our hearts are physically bigger, but our hope and feeling of hope grew within our heart because Christ came to live in our hearts. Until you receive Christ you will not understand the hope or the feeling of hope that grows within the heart. Those of us that beleive know that hope in our heart. We only have to believe as Mary did when the angel spoke to her and told she would have a son. Mary agree to the will of God in her life. Can you agree to the hope of eternity only Christ can bring through repentance of sin and faith in him. Can you allow Christ to turn your heart from sin. Our prosperity is not based on wealth of man but wealth of spirituality unfolds in our heart as we grow in the word of God and walk by His Spirit.
There is a time of destruction coming by the wrath and revenge of God on the world but not without the offer of hope given to the world to believe in God and Christ, to have the day after the events of destruction. Meaning that when God's wrath is pour out, his people are at home with him for eternity. Our comfort is with God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit) for eternity. That our comfort is even now as we walk our journey of faith. That the unbeliever needs not to feel the wrath of God if they will only believe and receive the ways of God.
Dear Heavenly Father, give us the hope of eternity in our hearts to the point we share it and tell the story of Christ coming, cross and resurrection. That Jesus be so instilled in the world that the unbelievers know what believers in Christ believer whether they receive the hope of eternity or not, they will at least received the warning of truth. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Acts 1:6-11 KJV
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
