Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Numbers 24:1-25 KJV
1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
3 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
4 He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!
6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.
7 He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
8 God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.
10 And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.
11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.
12 And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,
13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?
14 And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.
15 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
16 He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
18 And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.
19 Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.
20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
21 And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.
22 Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.
23 And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this!
24 And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.

Balaam obey God not out because he wanted to at first but because God made him out of his will for the enemy of God can only do what God will allow. When I think on that thought, how many people are torment for faith daily and how many are taken and tortured for faith in other countries and yet God says what God's people will carry their cross. We see God's protection on his people clearly in the beginning of the Old Testament but it does not remain as such on the believer in one since. Spiritually we are marked and sealed and with that our life begins to be a testimony for others without faith and with faith. If I perfectly good am I more protected the answer is no because we all sin and fall short of the glory of God, but he does not allow the enemy to destroy the remnant of his choosing. Baalam was not a man that obeyed God always in general he choose what he did. He did not choose to bless Israel but God gave him no choice in the matter. When he seen it please God for him to bless Israel he continued to do so but Balak became angry because he called him to curse Israel. Balaam response to Balak was he can only do what God will allow him to do and God would not allow him to curse Israel.

This is probably one of the earlies accounts of God allowing his enemy to know the coming of Christ. The people of Moab by this prophecy was now looking for a warrior king not a man like Jesus. Jesus was going to change man by the war of love and not hate. A war of peace and not anger. A war of hope not destruction. A war of spiritual marriage not spiritual destruction. By a war of peace, hope, love, and spiritual marriage there would be a victory of love proclaimed in the world that has no governmental ties. Government would still be needed and laws still give to man, but the law of love would reign over man. The banner over man is love. A banner to those that fear God, a banner called truth. There be laws not all will agree on, but there laws that protect even the sinner from his own destruction if he will obey it. The law of God has no boundaries when it comes to faith.

When I talk of marriage of faith it is accepting by faith that Jesus Christ is Lord and Spiritual King and ruler of our hearts. Not a physical ruler of man like governmental law, but if our heart is adhering to faith in Christ Jesus then we are subject to the works of faith as well called love, peace, gentleness, kindness, longsuffering and so forth. We subject to do the will of God has he leads and guides us by his Spirit. Governmental laws can not define the walk of God's Spirit because governmental laws does not and can not control faith. Faith begins where in the heart, our actions should be faith like.

This star of Judah is Jesus, he holds the sceptra of faith held out to anyone that will receive it and grasp hold of faith in him. Nations will rise up against nations, and the cause of this will effect man and not always protect man, but God's provision in the hour of the storm is sufficient for our needs if we will just trust in him in the battle of man. God's already won the battle with victory over death. The victory that one day will be completely destroyed with the return of Christ. Meaning death of the heathen will not exist after the final judgment because there will be no more unbelievers. Christ victory is not in war of man but in war of spiritual warfare.

As many have already guess this is the star the wise men would follow on faith that they would see the new king. A king not of war, but not to their understanding for they would go Jerusalem before they went to Bethelehem. The journey of Christmas has begun and I hope you enjoy.

Dear Heavenly Father as we start this Christmas season with the knowledge of the prophesy of the star that a new leader, a new king would be born that would shake the world and change the world let the truth be seen of how Christ truly changed the world. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 60:3-4 KJV
3 Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.
4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

Song of Songs 2:1-4 KJV
1 I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.
2 As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.
3 As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
4 He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.
