Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 8:19-21 KJV
19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

Jesus is teaching and the press is around him to the point he knows not his family has come to visit. Most that work and see their family enter their workplace want to take a few minutes with their family. Yet when the crowd of people are around, work comes first unless it an unusual emergency, then all understand, yet their jobs that people can not walk away from no matter the importance when there is a crowd or no crowd around. Jesus was dealing with a crowd of hungry reporters for information they could carry far and wide to the world. Do not hate the press in that regard, and yet love them at the same time for their desire to get the accuracy of the new report from someone. Yet someone having compassion on Jesus took time to tell him his mother and brethren were there to see him. Jesus calmly looked at the crowd and explain anyone which heard the word of God and do it was his family.

Many people are out in the world and if they only go by the teachings of Christ and not listen to all he said, we learn real quick if one listen, one has to believe first before the good works are done in order for salvation to come, yet our works could be a product of God revealing himself like he did Abraham giving him the opportunity for him to believe in God and His Son. Many believe God's word without believing in God, and you might ask how can that be. It is simple they know not who Jesus is as the Son of God/and Word of God. People seem to have the missing ingredient when it comes to faith. Some can not grasp the need to worship God and not just Jesus. Yet the fullness of the Godhead is in the Son. Why then do we need to worship all Three Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It the recognizing God's the Father part salvation plan of his Son and the work he does in a believers life by the Spirit.

This morning I got looking at the story of the sower in Luke 8 and it spoke of the sower sowing seed on a rock(story in Luke 8). I though how often we compare Jesus being the solid rock to stand on. Sowing of seed often being the word. Then I was thinking how many people walk down and aisle of a big evanglistic crusade and never to enter a church or other meeting places to learn about worshipping God. They get saved on one night and live like the devil the next, never understanding that in order to grow we need our hearts to be fertile ground in order for the word of God to grow within us. To receive Christ one still needs fertile ground to grow, but we must build on the solid rock, that why Christ is a cornerstone, deep within the ground below the fertile soil in which we grow. The story of the sower often depicts seeds being thrown on rocks and rightly so, for seed thrown on rocks above ground is not going to be able to grow in Christ. What does it mean that one can not build on rocks on hire ground, it is because they are not foundation stone, but apostles and ministers of faith. Our faith can not be planted in those stones. There is rock under fertile soil that is a anchor to one's soul. Two types of rocks seen in scripture. One of solid foundation and another not. One crushing and another not. The law was crushing, Christ was not. The idealogy of the law is obedience to it would save a person, but it always fail and salvation based only in law of work is only surface deep and not eternally deep.

We must get to that place we understand what is to build on Jesus, and not just walk the aisle once and think that all faith is. Faith in Jesus is learning to obey him, our obedience is simple work of our faith. We all fail at one time or another, but Christ in us give us hope and enables us to stand to work through times of error first on our knees and then standing before him in faith, believing his blood covered all our sin before our Heavenly Father.

We want to be part of the family of God, obedience to faith is important, but not as important as the belief/conversion. Faith must come first. Yet works might come first, but salvation can not come without faith. Our obedience is a testimony of whose child we are. Our devil acts testify are acts that must be sanctified into works of God. One must see sin as sin, acts of sin as being wrong no matter how fun it might seem.

Dear Heavenly Father, teach us what it is to be your child, and not to live like a devil. Help each believer to take his faith serious enough to understand your desire for our obedience to reflect who child as demonstration of our faith. Sanctify us Lord. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Peter 1:21-25 KJV
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
