The Workmen Of Faith 08/23/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 10:5-22 KJV
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Jesus said the workman is worthy of his higher. He speaking of ministers here, but it is true in one since especially in the days of Christ, the need of labor to either pick fruit, cut a tree, tend sheep, cook, sew, make tents and so forth based on skill alone, could land a job for at least a day, and it still true in some places today. Yet if a person go on the streets today and knock on a door of someone house, a person is likely to be shunned or outcasted. A person may ask a shop owner, or manager and they may higher a person long enough so one can earn enough for a meal. Yet even shop owners as generous as some are still shut the door with all the regulations and background checks people do today. If a person is in the countryside, you might luck up, but even nowadays people do not want to work that hard for food. Yet the farmer does it daily. What is my point, is the times like Christ still real as it was back then? I think in truth things have changed, but it not impossible to find work for a day, if a person looks for it. It just might not be readily available. Yet someone sees a person trying, they sometimes will make allowances and higher for a short time.
Why has hiring strangers changed because of crime, because a hobo is often seen as a thief whether they truly are or not is the question. A hobo on the road in need of fast cash, might not have a record of any kind, but may not be planning to stay in one place very long. Though it appears Christ is sending his disciples out to be hobos, in truth they are worthy of their hire. They are called men/women of faith. Why because God opens doors for men and women to stay, work and provisions are made for them by God through others. Why because of the will of God. It takes an absorbent amount of faith to walk out the door with nothing but what you wearing and your Bible and go across country. Most would as least pack a bag of essentials, but Jesus says do not take a thing. If you are not received somewhere to just shake the dust off your feet, and when you enter a home bless it. I do not think I ever heard a minister bless the home they enter, they enter just like anyone else would as a welcome guest, because they are known by those they visit. Time of Christ and today may of changed some, but in reality God still has the power to move in his people the same way as he did at the time of Christ.
Has the day of being a hobo for Christ still in existence, the answer is yes. The stories of a minister going to the area God has called him to minister in, even may have a vision or much prayer, before they go, or they may just being going as an aid worker with mission skills and said sure I will go, their vision is not so define beyond set guideline by a board of a church or group of people. Ministers have to be careful that they go where God has called them and not just anywhere that people think they should go. It not just a place of worship, but a place a christian is looking for is a place God has called them to, to help in the work of Christ and to help build up the church, either with encouragement, evangelism, teaching, an example to those weak in faith, or to set in their ways to change, but they know they need change.
When I was young a door open to me, when I found myself without a place to go. Yet food and meal was provided. They were people excited how God was going to use them to help others. Thinking back on it, despite my situation I found myself in, I did not worry. I think to myself is that stupid. Depends on if you following Christ, or yourself. The main question to ask yourself is why are you where you are? Is it a call of faith on your life, or stupidity. Look around at provision. Look around at what you do all day. Are you working for God or self? Is provision of God at your finger tips when in need and you ask God for his will to be done in the situation? Is your reason for being where you are is not ministry in the since of you calling, then are you in need of being minister too, and God opened a door for you.
Time of Christ, he is still a man in the flesh, though He was God, he used his humanity to live by, and his power to lead people to him, to do the miracle works in the lives of those who sough him. In Christ service, he need disciples to carry out the duty of seeking those that would hear, to come to him. They go out sharing the gospel, telling about healings, and telling the parables they just heard. Some people would desire to meet Jesus to see if miracles were real and so they followed him. The money bag Judas had to keep the money people gave Jesus, was given to the man that would betray him to tend to the financial needs of the greatest adventure of miracles and works of Jesus. It was done so, that others would do likewise, to assist and aid in the ministry.
You might not be comfortable hiring a stranger to work for you, but are you comfortable listening to a minister you know not their background or testimony? If you decided on a minister for your church do you careful pray about it. Wolves come in and look good, but they know not God or his word. They only follow their own thinking and not the will of God.
God's people are worth of their hire, they do the will of God and minister to the people even at the cost of their own life. They willing to stand up and minister even if they run once like Jonah. It does not mean they will run again. People follow wolves because they tell people what they want to hear and not always the truth. They know how to bring in a crowd of people, but they know not God. Though these wolves need Christ, they should not be allowed to lead. Judas Iscariot concerned how money could be spent if he or the woman with the jar of albastar oil had sold it. More concerned about money then the gift of the woman to Jesus. More concern about money then an act of love or tending to the needs of Jesus at the table. No one else washed Jesus feet, but this woman anointed him with a costly bottle of perfume.
Is the sheep more concerned how something might benefit others, or how God has called one to use his/her gifts for Jesus. Do they want to raise the next star to make money for the church, or allow the person to give freely of his or her talents. Disciples went out and learn to be story tellers, and to pray in the name of Jesus, seeing miracles at their own hands, but not everytime. People would feed them, and care for their needs. These people may not have gold, but they gave from their own substance. Provide a place to lie down at night. These were the workmen of Jesus, the disciples who went forth. Yet Judas would hang himself for his selfishness of betrayal of his Lord. He desired money more then Jesus.
Are you ready to be a hobo for Jesus, to go where God calls you to go. Are you welcome there, if not what do you do, shake the dust off your feet and go elsewhere, as a testimony against the people. Do not stay where you are unwelcome. Christ will lead you where you are to go. Doesn't mean you have to give up your job necessarily, after all the disciples still fished, Paul made tents, and others did other type of work. Yet if God called you to full time work in ministry you maybe giving up more then others that are also in the field. Yet how others are providing to help in ministry, or share about Jesus, may mean that their calling is to other types of labor that produces gold. It is a call done without giving up their livilihood. While others are travelers, ministers in churches, that lead the church for a time or many years. They to land up doing those odd jobs from time to time. Working side by side others outside the church. After all a days pay is not a beggar. God did not call his hoboes to be beggars but people worthy of pay.
Dear Heavenly Father, your call on your workmen, is a call of pure faith, and has nothing to do with the labor outside the church, but even the work outside the church can be used to aid your people. Open doors for your people, give them means to feed their families, and keep your word spreading across our neighborhoods, backyards, into the city, next county, next state, across the ocean, and the next continent. It not my message but your message Lord. Not my words, but yours of faith Lord. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Mark 14:1-9 KJV
1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
