Living In God's Leftovers 08/07/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisEcclesiastes 2:1-26 KJV
1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.
2 I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?
3 I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.
4 I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards:
5 I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits:
6 I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees:
7 I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:
8 I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.
9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.
10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.
11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.
12 And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.
13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
14 The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.
15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.
16 For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.
17 Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
18 Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.
19 And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
20 Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.
21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.
22 For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?
23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.
24 There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.
25 For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I?
26 For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.
Solomon is said to be the wises king, his wisdom came from God. He sought out folly the same way he sought out wisdom. His life style of a king of great power and wealth. He labor building and creating gardens, buildings and so forth. He enjoyed music, women and wine. He had servants, and even woman muscians. He also had plenty of wisdom. When he rest from his labor and looked over all he created, he found it lacked true value, because after his death it would be left to another, or destroyed. He seen the fate of all his actions. And yet he discovered something else, that God's people were truly blessed.
How is God's people blessed, God gives this gifts meant for everlasting life. He gives them gifts of his spirit, wisdom, joy, love, hope, faith, and so on. The things of the earth God gives to every man to do as he or she pleases. Even people that do not worship God are faced with the ability to build up a storehouse. God even has storehouse of leftovers upon the earth. But God also as a treasure trove of those people who are his. They are God's eternal beings, that will be with him forever and ever. Remember God said there would be a new heaven and a new earth, all things would pass away and all things would become new.
Texan do not take any offense by a childhood comment, but when my family moved to Texas from and area of beautiful mountains that were blue, a valley that was green with red clay mud, and fruits in abundance as well as growing vegetables, we discover that Texas did not have quite the same beauty and, as a children we would say, God dumped all his leftovers in Texas. No Texas by its own rights has it own beauty, just not the same beauty as the state of Virginia. In fact Texas is known for their long horn steer and huge ranges of open fields. Mainly flat in the area I seen, and heard there were mountains in other parts of Texas, I never seen. Yet God leftovers is all over the earth to one day be destroyed for eternity. God is not taking his handiwork of our habitation with him into eternity, but he taking his habitation he built inside our hearts with him, he taking our souls with him into eternity, not leaving us behind as long as we invite him in.
What is our labor but fruit for tomorrow until Christ returns. What we choose of value will it last. As a storm survivor did he value his family or the house he just lost. The things that were most valued to a true survivor is not his possession but the people in his life. You can not take one other soul with you, but you can tell them about the ark of safety in Christ Jesus that will take them into eternity and you all will be together with each other someday. Your soul in hell will not guarantee you will see others you love there, because you be fighting the torment around you as you perish for eternity. God's kingdom is full of blessing of his Spirit and his people. He created earth for destruction and the reason of its destruction comes with the pollutants of material things we create, devil created and God created to aid our journey on earth, that have little value except for our time here.
We often look at the things concentrated for holiness and the creation there of and find the weak element of this earth, but blessed to use it for God's service. We are made of earth, from the first man who was dust that was formed into a being/shell of is soul. The flesh of man will pass away and the soul God place in our earthly bodies only give a shell of who we are, or trying to be. Our true nature is in our soul that either long for God or the sinful things of this world and the wealth of the world, never perceiving the true gifts of God are not the things of this earth.
Solomon found his folly in his lust after devilish ways that fulfilled his desire. However he also found hope as a child of God. He could see God's people being blessed by eternal things of value, far richer, that was enriching their lives as they trusted in God. These believers had the same opportunity as the rest of the world to work and to labor for the things of this earth, building a storehouse to be left behind that would one day be destroyed.
I was taught to take care of what I had, and the things of this earth, but I hope what was instilled in me was far greater value as far as faith, hope, love, kindness, gentleness and so forth from my heavenly Father above. Do you have the hope of eternal things that is of great value to our eternal spirit as will as on this earth. Will you allow God to clean your heart from sin and destruction, he will also change us to value the things of eternity that last forever.
Dear Heavenly help us not to store beyond what need to live by on the earth beyond seeing it as needs for only this earth, that the world to come is the value of the things you continue to grow in us, by your Spirit and given by you as gift to all believers. Teach us the true value of the things of your Spirit as we labor for things not of value for living on this earth. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 33:1-22 KJV
1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
10 The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
11 The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
13 The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.
14 From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.
15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
