Who Is Your Brick Layer

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Genesis 11:1-9 KJV
1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Who is building a tower to God, but man, and yet the tower is not the type of building that will ever reach God. Man looks with his eyes and not his heart. Man sees the sky above and say let's build a mountain to God, not seeing the mountains God has already built. Now invision a group of people begining to lay huge block into place trying to build a tower to God. As time passed it would of become tedious work to get stones from the bottom toward the top of pyramid like structure. Yet as the tower grew God came down to see what man was building. As God looked upon the structure he said they have become one, and nothing going to restrain them from what they plan to do. God decided to confound their languages. Man is still today trying to reach God by their own merit.

God in his wisdom confound that language to reestablish his communication with man. The Hebrew children in Egypt learn quickly of the stone buildings to God. As they made their own brick, and even suffered at the hands of Pharaoh desire to go into the wilderness with Moses and Arron to talk to God, Pharaoh only desire was for man to work for him, and not spend time in prayer, but in devotion to the work of Pharaoh. Pharaoh believing by over working the Hebrew children the idea of talking or seeking God would be erased from their minds. Instead Hebrews children heart was knitted toward God without knowing what to expect from God or who God really was. It is the idea of freedom we has Americans had only to find ourselves taxed, working and enslaved to our families, friends, and even jobs. We want to reach God but we want to do it our own way, just like those that seek freedom in many parts of the world. Yet the idea of freedom comes with becoming Godlike to have the means to use money or finances however you want. You can even buy a few friends, who be enslaved for life, because of their enability to repay that friendship. Using money to solve all of one's problems, yet it is only immediate solution if you have enough. Biggest pyramid scheme out there is the need for money to be godlike. Yet God in his wisdom comfounds languages, and man's desire for control, as he watch man fall and failings.

God designed a way to reach him through prayer. God had already design the chief cornerstone to reach him. He began with his word, his promise to man by his word and continue into making his word a person, a being that we could see and not just hear. A promise that would bridge man to God and take him into eternity through faith in Jesus, the word of God that became flesh. Destroying the need for a priesthood, and yet reestablishing the need for ministers to teach the lost and dying world. A priesthood not segregated or established by man, but by God. A priesthood that no matter the role in a church would continue to preach outside the church building structure, but a church built by the hand of God alone through Christ Jesus. Most of us need a human teacher at some point in our life, but at some point the reality that all we need is Jesus will come to light. Human teachers, preachers, and so forth maybe men and women of faith, but our best teacher is the Holy Spirit, who is promised to all believers.

Our foundation of faith sometimes begins with our church leaders and religious people that arounds us, but God wants to tear these walls down before us to resurrect Christ is word in our hearts and minds. We each are individual brick in the wall of faith, and we need the other bricks to help build the place where our brick goes, but we do not need those bricks to be a god, or worshipped in adoration of their service, beyond that idea they help instruct, they are not Jesus. There imperfection of their humanity keeps us from need them as idols in our life. We need their companionship, leadership, but not them to be lord over us as a god. Christ is our only redeemer between God and man. All others only can lead us to the redeemer, to God the Father, but without us praying we still have no communication with God, unless God speaks to the human heart by the Holy Spirit. God uses his Spirit to convict our hearts. It not the human conviction that persuades us to believe in Christ and God the Father, it is his Spirit. That Spirit that convicts is the same Spirit that will bring you comfort in a storm. Christ is the chief corner stone that builds the highway of communication to God. It begins with faith. Without faith can you really talk to God. Only in regards to help our unbelief. Why because asking God to help our unbelief also establishes we desire to believe, in hopes of the reality of God.

Man tries by building idols of animals, of man, and other things to create their own god and ways to their god, but in truth this way only angers God. Circumcision a sign of faith, but it did not make one person righteous before God, because circumcision must be done by the hand of God on man's heart. God began to knitted the Hebrews heart toward faith in him before and during the wilderness, but some still lacked faith that kept them in the wilderness 40 years longer then they should of been. When man stops brick laying for another, and allows God to make them into a brick in his kingdom, our faith must lay first on Christ, and other's stories are just dessert to the building blocks of our faith.

God has his the chief builder of mankind and our faith. He builds something that can not be destroyed for his kingdom. Our flesh will pass away but our Spirit will remain to inhabit a new body or transformed body for his kingdom. A kingdom that will not fade away. Man builds all day long it is one of the oldest careers in scripture, but not the oldest career. Man been building with brick maybe before Noah, yet there only record of altars being built with stone. Stone building was before man made their own stone of brick.

Children in the countryside or that play in mud puddles probably at some point learn to make a mud ball, that hardens into a hard ball of dirt. Take the mud roll it and allow it to bake in the sun, or even under dry dirt. Retrieve it and a person will find it has hard like a rock, now imagine adding grass, or other material and you now have a brick hardened by the sun, it better if baked in a kiln, but either way it is a brick. Though it be primitive it early form of what we call bricks today.

Point being children to adult try to build towers to God, not understanding belief, prayer and acknowledge of the reality of God's word is true is necessary to commune with God. With out knowledge of truth, his word is dull in our hearts and it speaks not, because we understand not. When God's word comes alive in our hearts something else happens, faith becomes alive as well, when we choose God's winning side.

Dear Heavenly Father, make us into bricks that are for your kingdom placed on the Solid Rock and Chief Corner stone. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Exodus 5:1-19 KJV
1 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
5 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
11 Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.
12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.
13 And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.
14 And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?
15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.
17 But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.
18 Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.
19 And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.

Isaiah 28:16-18 KJV
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
