Road To, Through And Beyond The Cross: Lesson 21 4/21/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 21:1-14 KJV
1 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.
11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
The third time Jesus showed himself to the disciples, he was standing on the shore of Tiberias, off the shore of Galilee, south of Capernaum(where Jesus lived). No one recognized the voice or who had called to those that were fishing until Jesus said it was the Lord. Was Jesus consistantly with the disciples forty days from this occurence the answer would be no, but we really do not know all the information of those forty days before the ascension into heaven outside Jerusalem. What we know is Jesus prepared a meal for the disciples off the shore or so it appears. Simeon Peter, Thomas, Nathaniel, and Sons of Zebedee(James and John) were fishing off shore. They came carrying fish 153 and the nets did not break, a reoccuring miracle of Jesus with the disciples. No doubt they had to eat and make money, while traveling with Jesus, yet Jesus always gave them a great supply, even when nothing was caught all day and night. Peter swam first when he seen the great fish, fish not important but being at the feet of Jesus being greater, however the other disciples tarried with their boats and nets. Peter need no more evidence he knew it was the Lord.
Are we hung up on the supply of fish, not to know Jesus. I have to wonder when you look around your home, and your area, do you know Jesus supplied. You may say hard work did it all, but who was on the shore while you were working. Who was on the shore that delivered the amount you need to pay that bill. Jesus was on the shore, saying cast those nets in one more time. No Jesus had these disciples trained to cast those nets one more time in the water to find supply.
We come hungry to church and leave full or empty. Is the meat of the word enough. Jesus for forty days would be supplying the meat of the word for the disciples. Yet this third appearance was only a reminder of what had been missing from their life. A reminder what it was to be with Jesus, walking and talking with him. Allowing him to provide the supply.
Ever seen altar call were no one comes, but the altar call comes one more time, and the person gives in and goes forward. By God's Spirit the church knew even if they knew not who. The need great but the fear to come even greater. It never tells in scripture if Jesus and Peter talked about the denial, or if the repentance came upon hearing it is the Lord from the shore. Peter was not going to forsake or deny being with Jesus after the resurrection. Jesus prepared a meal of fish upon the fire. And as the fishermen came in Jesus told them to bring the fish. This was after he was raised from the dead. Yet the supply on the fire was enough.
This is only part of the evidence of Jesus breaking bread and eating fish with his disciples, tomorrow lesson will be the final discussion recorded in John, though it would not be Jesus last message to the disciples. However one that encourages others to share the Gospel message of who Christ is and what he did for us on the cross by dying for all our sins and the resurrection bring new life through being raise with Jesus into the newest of life.
Are you wanting to wine and dine on the word of God then you have to be willing to cast your nets in to catch the meat needed to live by. You may have only few question or maybe none at the moment but as you travel the road with Christ you will have many question that will need to be answered. The only way is to dig throught he word, pray, seek him in your journey in life. Question are you running to Jesus, when he shows you his supply, are you running to Jesus because of your need to repent. Are you running to Jesus, knowing the need of food can be found there. Jesus did not turn one disciple away that came to him. Those five knew Jesus had provided those fish for a reason, yet it was just those five that day on that shore.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to come running toward Jesus not waiting to see the number of fish supplied, but know the supply is waiting on the shore of a fine meal made ready. Help to wine and dine on your word and your supply in our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.
