Road To, Through And Beyond The Cross: Lesson 20 4/20/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 20:19-31 KJV
19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.
21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Visitation of Christ after death and resurrection. I think the hardest thing to accept is the visits of Christ after his death, because as we age and our memories flood our dreams at night, we often see love ones or even pets as if they really present and alive, and wake to discover it was a dream, but the dream being a pleasant reminder of those we loved. The reality of Jesus in the flesh in the upper room was not a dream. Though he seem to appear from thin air, his reality was there. Too many would see Jesus in the flesh after his resurrection to deny his reality and to many seen his scars in his hands and his side. Yet those that doubted like Thomas is only a fraction of those who struggle at believing in a risen Lord. When Jesus appeared to the disciples in the upper room, he told them to receive the Holy Spirit. In Acts the disciples waited after the acension of Jesus into heaven to be infilled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus was not Spirit but incorruptible flesh at his appearing to the disciples. Jesus told them to receive the Holy Spirit. Part of faith comes with first receiving before the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It like opening the heart to reality of God first and then his Son and then the Holy Spirit. Usually in that order because without God the Father the other two do not exist, and with God the Father all exist within his being as he does in the Spirit and Son. Christ would breath on them to receive his Spirit.
When man is created God gives man a living soul by breathing into his nostrils. Yet Christ breaths over the disciples to give them the Holy Spirit, his breath of eternal life within them. God's breath different from Christ breath. Definitely not. Adam was born with the breath of God but his heart and mind were not. His decisions not necessarily for God, nor against God, it is the free will within us that makes us not always obedient to God, yet to be born of God a second time takes the breath of Christ, to be born of God's Spirit, to be give a new mind and heart, that cries Abba Father, and yet still struggles with the mindset, that must be renewed day by day in order to live a life surrender to God. The infilling of the Holy Spirit enables man to live fully unto God. Our humanity cries take the cup from us God and yet we know in our being we will carry out the will of God in our life. Yet our humanity sometimes is in opposition to God. Abraham dealt with the unbelief that he would be a dad one day, he even laughs and Sarah his wife would also laught at God's word. However when Isaac is born joy fills their very heart and soul.
Doubting Thomas would not receive the resurrection without seeing Jesus himself and Jesus came a second time to the upper room where the disciples were and told Thomas to put his fingers in the nail scar hands and thrust his hand into his side. The wound being openned but healed. That is all Thomas needed to see to believe, he did not even have to touch Jesus to know. Yet Jesus used Thomas' word against him to help him believe. Yet many people believe never seeing Jesus in the incorruptible flesh. Blessed is the person that believes without ever seeing Jesus manifest before them. Thomas just got born again by Christ Spirit with seeing, but many are born again without seeing. Do you want to be born again, then pray this prayer with me.
Dear Heavenly Father I receive Jesus into my heart, and I receive your Holy Spirit. I believe that you died for my sins and ask you to forgive me of my sins. I believe through your resurrection I have a new life with you. Help Me to live for you because you died for me. Help me to remain faithful to you through out my life, by faith I am born again by your Spirit, teach me your ways Lord. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
If you prayed this prayer you are born again by faith in Christ Jesus. Want to know more read today's continual Scripture Study, and click on the button on how to be saved.
Continual Scripture Study: John 3:5-8 KJV
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit?
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
