The Stirring Part II: Power and
Authority of Christ to Forgive

Coming live from Turtle30cShell, I am your host
Christina Farris. Today we going to be talking about
Christ power as Son of God and His authority to
forgive. I believe in One God, yet I also believe in the
Triune God head. Meaning Father, Son and Holy Spirit
three person of the trinity. Now hold on for those that
do not know if they believe in the Trinity or not, let me
continue if you believe in God you do, but maybe not in
the format of the New Testament. Let me explain.
Jesus is the Word of God according to John 1:1 In the
beginning was the word and the word was with God
and the word was God. Jesus is the Spirit of
Prophesy. He was prophesied about from days of old,
example I be using is Abraham. God said to Abraham
in:

Genesis 17:19 KJV
(19)  And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a
son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I
will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting
covenant, and with his seed after him.

The everlasting covenant. A covenant that will never
cease. The promise Messiah. The covenant is a
promise between Abraham and God that he would
provide the everlasting covenant through His line. The
first promise of the Word of God coming to mankind.
The promise of the circumcision of faith. Action being
a demonstration of faith. Abraham believed and it was
counted to him as righteousness, Yet His belief was
back by his actions, his actions being part of his faith.
So it was establish the act of belief. Covenant with
Isaac. God said to Isaac:

Genesis 26:2-4 KJV
(2)  And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go
not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell
thee of:
(3)  Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will
bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give
all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I
sware unto Abraham thy father;
(4)  And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of
heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries;
and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be
blessed;

Blessing of God would come from Isaac family. It did
not mean the promise was not for the gentile people
that are not Jewish, but that blessing would come
through the Jewish tribe. This promise is talking about
the spiritual blessing that comes through faith in
Jesus. Belief in the Word of God. Then there is the
Holy Spirit which is the third part of the Trinity. Holy
Spirit is that Word going forth and coming to pass.
Jesus would come in the flesh as promised. Yet He
always was with the Father.  Last week in the lesson
The Stirring we talked about the healing at the pool of
Bethesheda. The man told the Jews that Jesus healed
him and it caused quite a stir, because it was on the
Sabbath. So Part two of The Stirring. Let me begin by
reading:

John 5:16-24 KJV
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and
sought to slay him, because he had done these things
on the sabbath day.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh
hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him,
because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said
also that God was his Father, making himself equal
with God.
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of
himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what
things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son
likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all
things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater
works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and
quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom
he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed
all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they
honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son
honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my
word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath
everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation;
but is passed from death unto life.

Jesus response to those that sought to persecute him
was, what can I do? He could only do what he learned
from His Father. How often we mimic those that teach
us. However Jesus was in the beginning because He
is the Word of God and equal to the Father. Meaning
He is the very breath, word  of God that became flesh.
The word of God stands assured. Meaning His word is
the same yesterday, today and forever. If the same it
can not be broken. It is solid. The word is solid. Jesus
would be consistent with the Word spoken by His
Father. Now healing was consider work on the
Sabbath, because the man picked up his mat. Was this
sin, or was it the Jewish religious law in question. Or
was it a lack of knowledge. Under Moses leadership a
man could be killed for breaking the Sabbath. Yet
Jesus breaking the Sabbath in the eyes of the people,
cause the people not to recognize the blessing this
man received from God of healing.

Jesus purpose in coming was to heal the sick and
afflicted. To draw all men unto himself. Jesus was by
healing doing the Father God’s biding. He was obeying
His Father. What Jesus did was a good deed. Are you
on the Sabbath more concerned about church
attendance or obedience to God. The type of work a
man could not do on the Sabbath was the type of
work for labor or hire. There was nothing wrong with
act of kindness or benevolent work on the Sabbath.
For instant some church groups minister in the
nursing homes on the Sabbath. It is work, but a work
of love. That type of work was okay on the Sabbath.

We are to follow in Christ example. By following in his
example we obey Christ by doing good even on the
Sabbath. To do good for someone is helping
someone, not helping ourselves, but ministering to
someone in need. It is not self seeking. It is sacrifice of
ministering to someone else. To be Christ like is not to
worry about our own reputation by missing church,
but doing the will of God. For worship of God can
come by helping those in need. Church is a time of
worship, a time of fellowship something all Christians
need. Sometimes it is in the fellowship of a building
and sometimes it changing a flat tire for that elderly
couple who does not attend church, but can’t get to
the store. We must remember service is not self
seeking. It easy to get lost in the world of me first. Yet
if we follow Christ it not about our desire but about
God’s will.

Now far as carrying the mat yes it was sin according
to the Jewish tradition. What justified the sin was the
man who picked up his mat believed the words of
Jesus. For Jesus said in verse 24,
“He that heareth my
word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath
everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation;
but is passed from death unto life.”

There is another verse in scripture that is important
and goes along with the sin of carrying the mat.

Psalms 32:1-2 KJV
(1)  A Psalm of David, Maschil. Blessed is he whose
transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
(2)  Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth
not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

The power of belief in a believers life is that there sins
are forgiven, both Old and New Testament. Christ
came to take away the law. Meaning to cover our sin.
To bury it with him through burial and through that
burial we are then resurrected with Him and become a
new creation, old gone and new begins. Being passed
from death unto life.

Let us continue the next passage.

John 5:25-30 KJV

25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming,
and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the
Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he
given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment
also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the
which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good,
unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done
evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge:
and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own
will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

A time is coming when Christ return and at the sound
of His voice the dead will rise. With the resurrection
comes judgment and condemnation. Judge of the
unbelievers is hell and the judgment of believers is life.
Jesus can only do the will of His Father. When our
word goes forth we have the ability to change it. When
God’s word goes forth it is established, yet God mercy
comes to people of obedience. Jesus told the man he
healed to go and sin no more. In other words stop
carrying the mat. He was suppose to remove it
according to the Hebrew defining of take up, not
continuing to carry it about. However I think the joy
this man must of felt, he perhaps was a little beside
himself. And so with that Jesus forgave Him. .

John 5:31-47 KJV
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I
know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is
true.
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the
truth.
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these
things I say, that ye might be saved.
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were
willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the
works which the Father hath given me to finish, the
same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the
Father hath sent me.
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath
borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice
at any time, nor seen his shape.
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom
he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have
eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in
you.
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me
not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will
receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of
another, and seek not the honour that cometh from
God only?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father:
there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom
ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed
me: for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye
believe my words?

Christ actions and deeds spoke of who he was. Only
thing is people rejected his testimony as well as the
prophets. Christ is the truth and the life. If we lack
belief then we have lost everything. For Christ is from
God and is God. He being one with the Father of all
things. What do our actions speak that we are
followers of God or followers of evil? Do we do God;s
will in our daily lives or our own? Christ did His Father’
s will. He had permission to do the things He
did because of His Father. He did not act as a free
agent but in the will of God the Father.

Christ makes it clear to those around that they reject
Him though He has demonstrated love. He even goes
on to warn them because of this rejection they
would accept someone else that did not claim to be
from God. That would come in his own name. We see
people falling away today following people that
come in their own name. Clearly the anti Christ.

Christ explained that God sent him to do His will. To
show people who He is. He had the same authority as
God the Father to judge and to save. We have a
choice whether to believe who Christ says He is and
who the prophets say He is or to deny him. That is the
choice. Do believe Jesus. Do you believe the Word of
God. God forgives you upon belief in Jesus.

John 3:16 KJV
(16)  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life.
