Ezekiel Journey: Can These Bones Live

2/24/2015

Daily Devotions: by turtle30c

Ezekiel 37:1-14 KJV
(1) The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of
the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of
bones,
(2) And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were
very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
(3) And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
(4) Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them,
O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.
(5) Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath
to enter into you, and ye shall live:
(6) And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and
cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall
know that I am the LORD.
(7) So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a
noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his
bone.
(8) And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and
the skin covered them above: but there was no breath in them.
(9) Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man,
and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four
winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
(10) So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them,
and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.
(11) Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of
Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut
off for our parts.

Can these bones live is the question the Lord asked Ezekiel while Ezekiel was walking to
his place of exile. Ezekiel surrounded by the enemy marching to exile. No choice in the
matter, but to march on toward their destination away from Israel. This passage perhaps
disturbs more people then in blesses, because they ask when did these bone live, was it
only metaphoric or a reality. In truth a little of both. Something about God’s prophesy is
that it will be a reality. It is not just mumbo jumbo. It is the truth of what occurred in
Matthew 27 when the dead rose out of the ground and walked in Jerusalem. No one talks
about it and no one understands because there little discussion about the reality of this
chapter. In order to believe there was exit from the graves of the past Israelites, there
would be evidence of empty tombs or absence of historical evidence based on body no
longer in the tombs of the dead Jewish people. It would explain why Islam is on the
temple mount instead of Israel, lack of evidence of a people that existed. That is where
the trouble begins for Christianity. How to prove the reality of Christ without doubt.

It is not the place of Christianity to prove the reality of God. It is the place of God to
prove His reality to the individual heart. I will repeat at age 22 I went on a spiritual
journey of my own to decide if what I believed was based on because I was taught about
Jesus or was it my own. It sounds like an odd question but it was a real one for me. It was
evidence in my own life my own account of knowing the difference of what could be
reproduced by man and what had to be divine intervention.

Ezekiel ministry wake up call came with the prophesy of his wife death and her dying and
not having opportunity to properly mourn for his wife. Instead he began his prophet and
real ministry on the road toward exile and on the road of exile. The wake up call to preach
came with his own wife death. Yet I can help wonder as if Ezekiel though of his own
beloved wife coming out of the tomb. How much sorrow he must have had over the years
of loosing the best thing that ever happened to him, and yet loosing it in a day and not
being able to mourn. Did the knowledge of the resurrection give him hope to see his wife
again perhaps. It definitely was the hope of Israel of her own restoration to God both
physically and spiritually. Israel believe in a place called Abraham Bosom. Yet the
transfiguration displays something else of the after life coming from heaven. The plight of
unbelieving Israel being redeemed. The tribe that sought an earthly king, and the tribe that
sought earthly priest instead of God. The running from the need of another instead of God
out of fear of God. God would give man a spiritual and physical ruler of the earth name
Jesus when He returns from heaven to reign. That is our hope and why we wait. Whether
we be dead or caught up to the sky to meet our Savior when He comes matters not. The
believer will be standing in the clouds on judgment day. His church corrected for the day
of judgment for the world.

God asked Ezekiel would these dead bones live, and the answer is only you know Lord.
Ezekiel visions of dry bones is only a reflection of faith of the time of resurrection of the
time of Christ death and then Christ resurrection for the beginning of the new covenant
with God’s people. What a spiritual feast Ezekiel had over a vision from God, yet he
would not see the physical prophesy until the bones came to life and walked into
Jerusalem with victory of and testimony of faith. Yet it would not be in Ezekiel earthly
day.

The question is not the evidence by man, but the evidence through faith and hope. Where
is your faith, is it as alive as Ezekiel. Is God supper of the future, as well as the present
enough. The prophetic vision of the hope eternal enough? That is a personal decision.

Dear Heavenly Father give us the hope eternal life in our spiritual walk. May Lord the
believer have the faith to stand. Give them strength to believe and hold to the truth. In
Jesus precious name, Amen.
