Daily Devotions for Monday: by Christina Farris
Ezra 1:1-3 KJV
(1) Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,
(2) Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
(3) Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem.
There is so much controversy over the Temple Mount even today that it drives in my opinion more people away from God instead of towards God. The prophesy of ancients are fulfilled even today. For the antichrist would be on the temple mount one day and be in control. What is anti christ but one that is against Jesus. One that is against Jesus as being Lord but only sees him as a prophet, or good teacher. One that goes by old laws and are not free by the yoke of bondage through the paid sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Until Christ come again, and places his foot on two mountains the issue will remain as it is.
The time of Darius was before Christ. The time of rebuilding and restoring the temple by the call of God to none Jew. Though Darius built many temples back in lands his armies had marched through, it seems like an act of God to rebuild. Yet it makes it no more act until you read the testimony of Darius who says God has commissioned him to rebuild the house of the Lord. In Jerusalem. If God spoke to a non Jew to rebuild the temple then it going to be done God’s way. Not the way of the world. The way of the world is forever wants to help can help. And the design will not necessarily be God’s design for the temple, but whoever commissioned it to be rebuilt.
Darius sought the Jewish people for leaders to build the temple as God instructed. He was going to return the gold and silver and send wood and other material back with the Jews to rebuild the temple. He physically would not build the temple and nether would the Persian people. Yet they would guard the rebuilding of the temple. They would supply the tools and materials for the rebuilding. It is like being handed a golden ticket when God instructs rebuilding or building of some project. You might not have what you need today for it but the project will be built and supplies meet, yet the commision of the building must take place first.
The king knew not how to build God’s temple, but he knew the commission to built the temple had people who knew how to build it, and how large it would be. Though customs dictated that other temples be built has well that were not of God, for the believer that had been praying it was an answer to prayer. Persia though it trampled through the land of people they knew not, they were not against restoring the people to their land as soon has they learn the ways of the Persia.
If America restored all the slaves to their ancestral home, it would cause a stir like no one has ever known. Few people outside of the church know about the returning of the Jews to Israel, unless they are involved in some way. Even Christian have little knowledge in the church world of these events. Yet since the time of Israel becoming a state, and since the time of World War II there been a mass exit to Israel, even in America. There is a difference of being a friend to a group of people and standing on the enemy lines ready for battle. The return of Israel has always been the hope of Israel. It is the hope that has been since the days of exile. It is the hope of a people who look for a city not built with human hands but the hands of God. Yet people seldom understand the difference in the hand of God building and building of the physical temple. Jesus came to break those chains for the people. Israel will always be icon point for many nations and people of who God truly is. Yet even Abraham looked for a city built by God. God decreed a build of the original temple as well as the temple during Persian empire. Let us not forget God ability to call man despite their beliefs to do the will of God. The Jews hope was in the word of God to be fulfilled.
Dear Heavenly Father you commission your house to be built and not only built but built by your people and not the world. Let your people hold the temple not built by human hands but by your hands through Christ Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
