Genesis 3:4-7 KJV
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

In verse 6 of today’s passage we find the word wise. Now I do not know about you but if Eve could even think a tree could make one wise that was her first mistake. It shows her lack of wisdom of knowledge of what made people wise. Eve perhaps not to old at this point, but old enough perhaps to have understanding that wisdom was of value. Yet her mistake is what makes one wise. There many things humans think will enhance their wisdom. Wisdom coming from the latest medicine to enhance memory, or to the latest guru book. Man consider wisdom coming from age as well as education. Yet none of these things makes one wise. To be enlighten is not always wisdom. Do we need to see horror of evil to know, it has no place in culture of good society. Do we need to sin to know to disobey God has consequences, apparently yes. Yet to look at something has being a substance of wisdom, we must ask do we need the intelligents of a snake? Do we need the intelligent of donkey? Baalam in scripture needed the intelligent of a donkey to keep from going forward. Look up Balaam if you don’t know the story in scripture. Eve need the snake to make her think that by disobedience she would have wisdom.

How many children have thought they knew best and choose to disobey parents only to loose their life by an accident. Whether pulled down stream by swift current, burnt from a fire, or simply walking out in the middle of road without looking, people have been killed. As a child I can remember swimming in tide water. Now my dad would not put me in harms way on purpose, but the current is swift. I was a good swimmer, but that day I learned about the swiftness of water in semi safe environment. My dad was a good swimmer, he could of reach me in no time, but he allowed me to swim against the current of the river, that only seem to take me a little futher out. Finally I figured out to swim toward shallow water and not fight the current going down stream. Then I walked back up the river coastline to where we had been fishing. God is not going to allow us into a swift current of sin without protection or without ability to overcome. However we need to keep our eyes on Jesus. Looking away only drowns us. God allows us to fall only to know we will learn. God provides salvation, knowing we need it. He knew we needed it before the sin. In fact after the sin, God punished Eve and Adam, but not without sending them with fur coats for protection against the elements of this world. Adam and Eve’s fig leaves were not enough of a covering or protection against the elements.

God desires us to obey him and to obey him is wise. Yet the protection of wisdom is to understand first where it comes from. It comes from God and not Devil’s lies or mankind. Eve gave that fruit to Adam, and both eyes became open to their sin. The wisdom of now understanding they need clothes. No one told them they need outfit before. Think of all the cute pics of animals in their latest attire. Did those animals need clothes before their owner dressed them up. Of course not. Yet some who keep their pets indoors feel the need to dress them up especially when it is cold outside, with the minimum of a sweater. God’s correction did not stop God from loving his children and providing gifts of comfort. The wisdom from God is His love does not end. The wisdom of obedience means their no consequences for sin. So next time your tempted remember is that really wise, for one day you have to face your maker, whether before or after this life.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to be wise in obedience to your instruction for our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 KJV
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
