1 John 1:1-10 KJV
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
It is easy to believe in something. A person often believes if he pulls and twist the door knob it should open. However if the door is locked and you are on the outside and not the inside it may not. And some doors it matters not what side you are on it might not open. There are many scenarios why the door might not open, but lets stick with the short scenario that door is locked. The door of your heart is locked upon birth. Only you have a key that will open it or shut it. You are the only one that allows loves and anger inside. A baby response to love but until the baby actually demonstrates and action that not mimickry it not love. Many people believe in God and even believe in Jesus. Yet without confession of sin beyond the first step of faith being believe one has done nothing but become a believer like Satan. Satan believes in God but thinks one he himself is god. Satan also thinks he does no wrong, does not admit fault. He is his own righteousness. He only truly loves himself and never lets love into his heart. In fact satan not only not equal to God he is not God.
God is light. Walking toward God is like walking with a flashlight. Having knowledge of God and looking toward that light watching for rocks and ditches along the way. Now God’s path is smooth, but all around there is danger. You can not see the danger but you know it exist. Light of God is taking you the right path towards him. It smooth and easy to follow. God in I John 5 is the light, in him is no darkness(evil). All things good are of God. Man is sinful, and is often in direct disobedience to God. Without repentance one can not walk in light. Sin it self will take you further then you want to go. You can not have fellowship with other believers if you are walking in sin.
In order to let the light of God in we must confess our sins. Admit we are imperfect. Not until this point comes we can not receive Jesus who is also the word of God, not only came in the flesh and manifested himself through virgin birth to us, but we can not receive truth of God into our hearts. Confession starts at the brain understanding our imperfects and our unwillingliness to obey God on our own. Then once this concept is receive one is able to receive Christ as Lord and Savior. This decision is not something one can demand corporately it must be individually even if in a crowd. Many people repeat or ape what they hear, but until it receive not just in the head, but in the heart, one still missing love of Christ in their heart. Even the devil believes, but never receives. Jesus suffering cleanses us from all sin. The act of his suffering, the shedding of blood cleanses us from our sin. It brings mourning to our hearts to know we crucified Christ with our sin. Our sin was why Christ had to pay a price for us. Our sin that began with the fall of man in Genesis 3, when Adam and Eve ate the fruit. Sin that was direct disobedience to God. Sin is direct disobedience to God. Yet God made a way through Christ suffering, bring repentance, and giving us hope of eternal life through His resurrection. That hope of living eternity with God. That hope of light being in our life and not the evil. There is evil in our world, it can not be avoided, but God can go before us to destroy it and even take us through it at times. He desires to guide us. He desires us to unlock and open our hearts to Him. He desires us to take step two of faith and repent, turning from sin.
Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us of our sin, help our unbelief and enter our hearts to receive your Son, the truth of your word as Lord and Savior today. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
