Found In Christ In Peace

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

2 Peter 3:1-18 KJV
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

It is easy to think one understands about end times, yet in truth no one understands completely, and people read hoping for a bit more understanding and their is nothing wrong with this, but we have more to do then just dwell on end times. If we can think on the hear and now let us not forget that the Lord will return one day as in the days of Noah, but not with water but a fervent heat that will melt the heavens and the earth. How should we be living when Christ returns. The greatest reward would be to be found without sin on the day of the Lord returns. Our garments clean and white as snow with no road dirt found on them. In truth it may seem like an impossibility when there so much the Lord has to change in us as individuals. Yet the Lord is preparing his people, We are washed in the blood of lamb, cleansed from all sin. Our garments are white as snow upon the day of salvation. Yes there are times when we find ourselves in a mud puddle splashing around and the mud gets our garments dirty. That when we take them to Jesus, and repent for jumping around in the mud hole, knowing we should of just walked around the mud hole. Then their times we trip and fall and mud gets on us from the fall, we find the need for Jesus to lift us from the mud so we bow in prayer and say Lord lift me up and help me stand on higher ground then sinking sand. Truth we can sink into mud holes or sand deeper then we ever wanted to go. For some people a piece of cake means eat the entire cake. One cookie means eat the whole pan of cookies. Yet God never intended for the first splash in the mud, or the need for the first bite of temptation.

God plan for us was to keep our garments spotless without need for the cleaner to deep them again and purify them. There is only one sacrifice for sin and Christ paid the price for sin on the cross of Calvary for all eternity, that whosever would confess and repent of their sin they would be saved. Yet often as believers we find ourselves in the need of repentance and cleaning out of the clothes, because we hide our sin from the Lord and others. A garment does not have to look muddy to be dirty, take a whiff of the last item you wore and how clean does it smell. The cologne you wore might hold the odor off for a little bit, but the stinky body odor still exist masked by overpowering cologne. The point being we mask our sin by our good deeds from time to time. What about that kindness you showed when you feel ugly toward that person or feel guilty about something dealing with a person.

None of us are without spots, but we can purge our sin from ourselves on a daily bases, monthly, and yearly, by remembering the importance to examine ourselves and ask God to examine our hearts and motives of what we do. Time is short and our duty to God is to be found with our garments cleansed and purified and not stankafied/stankified. We can pretend to be pure, but in truth Christ is the only one that can cleanse us from all unrighteousness. What is faith but the reality of understanding the reality of who Christ, God and the Holy Spirit is. The first sin is denying his reality, and need for obedience. When we get saved do we forget who God is to go and follow after our own devices into doing things we ought not.

If the knowledge of end times does put a fear of belief and obedience toward God and His Son, then stop for a moment does it also put you into mode to share about it. We got people all around us dying not hearing the truth about what is coming, yet we set back and do nothing. Did not Christ suffer enough to motivated us into action. What motivates a person into action. Disciples seen the cross yet it motivated not into preaching. What motivated was the resurrection and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. We need that rememberance of the resurrection and the infilling and baptism of the Holy Spirit to move us and enable us to help see our love one's saved, and those around us saved. We may only be testimony to some, but to others we may just lead to Christ.

There is more we must understand are own lack of understanding so we can help others to understand the truth of God's love for mankind. To help them to understand scripture. To help them to understand the simple things of faith, speaking in the way they understand things, not necessarily how we understand them. We must speak in the language of the people. The hometown language of the people. We must also guard ourselves and ask God shield of protection to guard our footsteps so those muddle puddles are less inviting, and the straight and narrow more appealing. As I grow older I realize how some ways of doing things is simplier then another. In truth the narrow way means you do not have to clean as often, but you still have to clean that road dirt off your shoes. In truth we need to keep the peace of Christ in our lives by living the straight and narrow path that leads onward and upward toward heaven, sharing the good news as we travel forward in faith.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to live in peace with you and go forward with you with the help of Christ and the Holy Spirit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
