Jesus Taught Us To Believe

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 20:26-31 KJV
(26) And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
(27) Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
(28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
(29) Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
(30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
(31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Thomas was a doubter but not unbeliever. Doubts are a normal part of faith. It not something to run from but embrace to know the answer. If you grew up always believing in Jesus from a small child your faith is perhaps your own and perhaps not. God wants to weed out the errors of faith. To do so one has to trust God to allow Him to weed our the errors of faith. One way of starting the process of weeding of faith is to be willing to examine oneís faith from early childhood and on it adulthood. Children that learned to believe early on probably will not recollect an experience that convict the heart to belief. Instead their belief comes from being told to believe and not question God. Sometimes being more like Job and David in asking God questions helps in our communication with God to know the answer of truth, which in turn builds faith. Lies do not build faith. Faith has to have a foundation of truth. Friendships are built on trust and destroyed by lies and hurt. Proof of Christ coming into a new believers heart can only be known by the believer. Repentance without asking God to forgive is only a believing soul in God being like the devil. Mourning because sin comes with true repentance from sin. It is the guilt that bring sorrow but it faith that brings healing with the knowledge of being forgiven.

Thomas need evidence to have faith that Jesus was alive. He wanted to see the nail scarred hands. Jesus came and showed him the nailed scarred hands. Blessed are the people that need not the evidence, but growing into adulthood one needs evidence not provide usually in younger years. It is the miracles and wonders of God that is provided with evidence even medical diagnosis to healing. Did God prove or provide you evidence after or before faith of His existence. Nothing wrong with saying reexamine your faith as if you had none, and see if you come to the same conclusion. If Godís word is true which it is, then you have no trouble reaching the same conclusion of faith in God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). If you did not need the evidence of the pierce side and hands to believe you are truly blessed.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for evidence of your existence teaching the value of faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
