The Rescue: Lesson 17
10/17/2021

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Mark 1:12-13 KJV
12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Matthew 4:1-11 KJV
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Temptation from scripture point of view based on Biblical knowledge of what sin is a direct disobedience of God's word. Jesus came in the form of a man, came in the form of infant to mankind. When he came as infant through virgin birth, he came into the world to grow into manhood and to experience the things of this earth as you and I do. With that thought in mind we understand that temptation for God's son would not be the same as you and I in regards, he knew who child he was, he knew what heaven looked like, he knew what authority he had and power in which that authority was given to him. We have to remember Satan tempting Jesus had power and authority too just not has much as Jesus. Satan authority on earth is only what God and mankind allows and does not halt.

As I often do at night watch videos and such, was watching on person testimony of her past life and how she chose to change. These stories are not unusual, to hear someone life was changed either by their own power or the power of Christ Jesus. The find line is do we need Jesus, to change? Anyone can make a life altering decision to change, but without Jesus they do not have the one that hold the answers and solutions for all situations. The one that change may revert to what they use to do that may not be good if life deals them a bad hand, because they know that the only means they know to get money and desperation sets in. I think of the pandemic, it changed the course of sin culture to what degree? Only those in fear of Cov-19/Corona virus. It is the same everywhere in life no matter the work. Everyone looking for a fast track for success and survival. What some do maybe not what others would do. I am a strong believer in Christ protection over the believer and even their bodies. And those that know my testimony of being hit literally by a train, know that my body was bruised from head to toe. I had pain and suffering, but did God take care of me in my storm. Looking back my injuries should of and could of been worse. Do I believe that we suffer sometimes in storms we ourselves can not control, but Jesus still takes us through them. I believe if you want out of life of no longer breaking the law in crimes, Jesus can be your way maker. What I mean as you learn to first receive him as your Savior, he can keep you from the life style of crime, if you will trust in him.

I was watching a youtube video with homeless people and some believers and some not. Some were taking the road of faith in their situation. God never puts more then he and you together can handle. Even in my own christian walk I faced not having a job and no where to turn, but to Jesus. It did not take long for my rebellion to end and to just trust in Jesus. I make it sound easy, but it was not. The older one gets the harder is to face roads one travel to get to the destination called heaven. As seniors already know as they reach retirement age, some need to continue to work to survive off the income of social security. Some have tried hard to put a big enough nest egg aside but some were unable to for whatever reason. They look at that first pay check of Social Security and it is less then thousand dollars and say how can I pay rent, food, clothing and still do the things they enjoy. Some choose to do senior work, at summer jobs, or what consider part time work while traveling. Others do that even with a nest egg, for the sole purpose of enjoy life while they can. I was introduce to my first knowledge of summer senior work, when I worked at amusement park for one summer. Later learned there were other programs out there in different areas that were sometimes short and others longer.

There is a point I promise. Knowledge of how to survive and what available in the world is great, but it only last as long as those governing those programs. Those during the pandemic found the government was fixing to lasso them with bills that would sooner or later be either paid by the government or be repaid by all individuals by prices increases and gas hikes. The riches country in the world treating people as if they have the ability to work extra hard for the King Pharaoh. Hopefully America does not have to go through the seven plagues of Egypt. What people also learned is their stableness only lasted as long as the job doors that were open to them. I do not doubt people downside, sold their homes, changed jobs and even took what ever job was available during the global storm of one disease that knew how to mutate. Humanity had to learn to mutate in their jobs, from going to online fulltime work, to working in stress zones of the pandemic. It also gave some people the realization they could work from their computer anywhere and leave cheaper in a van or camper. People driving across country instead of remaining in one place. Yet did they run from the storm. Was there anywhere they could hide from the storm? No followed them or went with them. The point being God began to provide for people in their prayer life. God did not always do things their way, but always his way and will. Hard to grasp his will sometimes for our life. Tempation for some to revert back to life of crime probably did exist during the time of pandemic because of economical storm in their life. Temptation not to do things God's way, but to try it their way may of been a struggle. Yet reality is God wants to go through the storm with you. Walk with you in your humanity as a believer.

Did Jesus in his hours of temptation in his humanity understand he was already victorious. Forty days without food is a long fast. Did he have anything during this time, at all is unclear, but what is clear as soon as the time of fasting was declared over by God the devil came to tempt Jesus in his human weakness, not in his human strength. How much weight had Christ lost, or muscle wasting had occurred in his body, we do not know, but we know at this point he is hungry, and tired. Most of us if in our power to turn stone into bread might of tried it. If told to jump from the temple and we be given a kingdom might of been tempted to jump. To stand on a mountain top and see the world and be told that if we bow down we can have it all, might of done it. My thought my heavenly Father's will for me to experience in human form suffering is ludricous in itself and traded sides. But Jesus knew who child he was, knew his time to die was not yet and knew what authority was already his. What is a little human suffering to Jesus with his knowledge of who he is, was and will be. God blessed him because of his obedience to his will for his life and devil depart angry, because he could not get Jesus to change sides. And the angels of heaven minister to him after his temptation.

As a child of God can you stand and say in your tribulation you are a child of God, I not jumping, I not bowing to the enemy, and I definitely can not make stone into bread, but I can make stone soup. What is the point as a child of God when temptation of the enemy comes are we going to say no to life of crime/sin, separation from God because of sin, or are we going to say Yes Lord Jesus, I be like you and yield to my heavenly Father's will. Missionary to China starved herself not on purpose she did so tending to God's little lambs/children. She journey home and became sick and died, on her trip to America, but lived to go to be with her heavenly Father in heaven. Her name was Lottie Moon. Can we bear our cross even if it means to do without and even our children, and husband going without. I know the price, I been at bottom of the barrel with no solution, but God still answer and heard.

Lottie Moon sacrificed because she knew where her eternity was. Jesus was willing to face his humanity because he knew at the end of his journey he would be with his Father in heaven, once more. Easy words if you freezer is full, but when reality is there is nothing left, then you have to ask can you still walk in faith. When my husband got hurt, two things happened, we were faced with the reality I was dying, because I had been diagnoised in May 1996 with a rare blood problem called Myelofibrosis, and was not strong enough to work at the moment and his back was not going to allow him to work. Crisis, yes, God provision was there in the storm. Hubby long hours paid off in sick time, vacation time and so forth. Our first 8 months taken care of, but reality hit in the dead of winter. I could only thank God we had stocked our freezer for those winter months, because our town use to get heavy snow. Living off of little and we made it. God provided in the storm.

When I was healed a new storm arose, but it was different because it was also a hallelujah time. It was the mountain top of experience with fog all around us. Yet a new storm, I been trying hard to get enough strength to go back to work. It been journey, but I am almost there. This time I got a new barrier, my eyes are failing me. I think Lord if this is my cross I have to bear, I will do so, because you are my strength and my fortress. The feeling of growing old and facing old age caused the foreseen storm coming and realize if God taken me through all of life heart ache and struggle, he will take me through my final leg of my journey too. I never chose a life of crime for a solution. I always chose God's way. And have always found other ways to earn money, and trust solely on God. Depending on the situation at the time God's provision was much needed.

My best friend is God first and my husband second. My husband one day either him or I will face life alone probably. The only one that consistent is God, Christ holding my hand the last leg of my race or his. Life is hard. But truth is, whether with or without things of this world, God substains our soul. The most precious treasure come from God and are provided by God. Precious Lord take my hand, let me stand, words of a Gospel hymn. Are we willing to let God hold our hand in the journey?

Dear Heavenly teach us even through temptations of life journey, that to hold to your word and promise is much greater reward. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 8:13-39 KJV
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
