The Rescue: Lesson 9 10/09/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris1 Samuel 18:9-16 KJV
9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
10 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.
11 And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13 Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14 And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
15 Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.
King Saul at this point appears to be a lunatic of some sort, for he tries to kill Davvid and then makes him a captain over a thousand men. The evil spirit was from the Lord and he also prophesied. Now to claim evil came from God, we must understand Satan is a creative being, that power is limited, but is limited by God. His angels and messengers are limited by God has well. God has also limited the power of mankind to a point. We talking about limited power that control by God that is evil. No weapon formed against David would come to destruction, because he was anointed by God.
I have a cat that most would agree if you seen his temperment that he has possessed at times. Though he can be very loving and even protective, he has a evil spirit about him. He is so tempermental at times, the only thing to do is have him go into the other room, not by human force, but suggestive prompting by the word No and go into the other room, until he has calm down. Eventually he calms down and he becomes that sweet cat you know he truly is. However when he aggressive you know you are in trouble. Sometimes trying to get the cat to back off is nearly impossible. The oddity about the whole thing you do not have to do much to get this kind of response from the cat. I have determined, it because he wants something we do not understand or able to figure out ourselves. What type of cat is he? He is a maltesse. Part siamesse and something else.
There a point to my story about my cat, Saul much like this cat, he a kind man with compassion for his nation, He is a king with authority, power and desire to strut his stuff. He is getting old. The young man name David has proved to be not only skilled, but cunning and villiant. He is a brave man even killing of Goliathe. He is a skilled player of the harp, but one flaw, his humbleness, gentle spirit is probably driving King Saul insane. David and King Saul spirit is different. Saul desires popularity, and alot of high fives/pat on the back. David is just doing his duty. David has maybe killed more men in his youth then Saul has his whole military career at one fight. The very thought of young David being a better fighter then him allows that spirit to within him to become angry enough to want to kill David. Saul prophesied that he would smite/hit/slay David with the javelin would be enough of a warnning for David to avoids King Saul, because he honor his God and he takes the warning from God that Saul is serious about killing him. David for a time til Saul calms down avoids being in his presence. Anger is the worse thing that can control the human soul. Many things that can make one angry and out of control, but jealous is maybe the far worse spirit there is. A spirit of wanting what someone else has. Did Saul have power to control this spirit God gave him, apparently so, and power to unleash it. For there was times Saul was truly angry with David and other times he loved David.
What could have Saul done but he did not do at this time. He could of repented to God. He could of ask God humbly how to stop the issue he was having. After all God himself is a jealous God. God is jealous for his people, desiring not the enemy to have power over his people. Yet he allows the enemy to teach his people from time to time, how their own sin shipwrecks them. And others too. This may of been a good lesson for David for one day he would have power. Til that time he was a servant to King Saul. What are you jealous or want control of, but it is not in your power to have that control. It is only God's power to control it. Today we praying that the jealousy of control be gone from our lives, and that we will seek things God's way and not our own. That we allow freedom in others, as we desire even for ourselves, but that is God's way.
Dear Heavenly Father, you are a jealous God but you know what best for your people and how to protect them and aid them in decision. You have control and yet you allow our free will to exist so we make both good and evil choice. Help us to make choices that are godly and good, to help others and ourselves in the things we do have power over. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Exodus 20:1-5 KJV
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Isaiah 54:17 KJV
17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
