Did Jesus Talk To The Dead
10/20/2020

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 17:1-13 KJV
1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

This time of the ghostly season many kids ask some of the strangest question concerning the issue of ghost stories and hauntings. Yet as a believer we tell kids do not accept Ghost, or spirits. We tells kids to stay away from witchcraft, divination, and evil spirits. Yet believers have their own stories of the spiritual after life that is seen in broad daylight. Jesus had his own encounter with the spirit world beyond the grave at the time of his life on earth, before his death and resurrection. People in the christian world are taught to deny the existence of spiritual forces just like people are to deny the countability of UFOs, but if we think of what UFO stands for anyone that sees a flying object that is unindentifable then it is a UFO. It something seen in the night unexplained or least by the person that saw it, yet there might be a reasonable thing in the sky, but most are truly looking for alien life outside our planet, and is there of course God uses our earth as his foot stool.

Now with all that said let us ask ourselves one greater question is there life on Mars or any planet, God knows if he walked on Mars, and Jupiter and seen the land and desired to develope it. So yes there been life on other planets. God has been there and he is a living being. How I know, I sure of it, for he made it. Now let get on with the lesson today, enough about UFO account ability. What about spirits. Jesus is clear there is after life, a place where souls go, a place of eternity, and most of the time you can not get back from either place to earth, yet there is a day coming when the dead in Christ will return from heaven with Jesus. Here we see the dead from ages past two leaders with Christ Jesus, Moses and Elias/Elijah. Four persons seen and that is counting Jesus. These two leaders from old talked to Jesus. Jesus did not conjure them as the witch of Endor did Samuel for King Saul, but they appeared to the three disciples as Jesus talked to Moses and Elijah. No Oujie board, no crystal ball and no dowling rods were needed for evidence of these two images. Point is these two images were very real, and not afraid to talk to Jesus or be seen by three disciples. In fact the disciples did not seem to question the event but ask if they could make a tent for them, only for them to disappear out of plan sight.

Now if disciples were so comfortable with the appearance why do we deny this event beyond the transfiguration for the sake of God's word being prophesied. In other words this story was not to be repeated, until after the resurrection, why because who would believe? Was it consider Satanic back then to talk to the spirit world, would or could it be consider a part of divination, magic art, conduring up of the spirit world, without understanding the meaning of the event. The fact is simple these were two Israelites, people that were believers and not of a false religion. All false religion would be part of wizardry, satanic art and so forth, The true faith in God , apparently the appearing was for a spiritual purpose.

The meaning was so that God's literal word would be fulfilled by Elijah and Moses returning. Spiritual force and event not understood by others. These two people were not from the pit of hell, but from heaven above as a testimony of the ability of the resurrection the eternal home of Abraham Bosom/heaven, the new Jerusalem, a city built inside heaven peril gates for believers. Maybe we can understand why then the man lazarus in a story fiction or real was able to see for a moment into the great divide between heaven hell, for the sake of his tormentor the rich man, who is now tormented in hell.

These are all stories in scripture of the after life, but the reality of after life can only be a vision, why Jesus called the transfiguration a vision. Jesus spoke of John the baptist in reference that the disciples understood, but there before them was the real Elijah and Moses for the understanding of the reality of what was to come for all believers after death, after resurrection and the hope of eternity. Beware when someone says lets conjure up the dead, that not our power to do, but does God give man vision of those that past on, I believe so, if nothing but to help our unbelief, to help with the reality our love ones that are save are beyond the jordan river, beyond the blue sky, in eternity with God the Father, and His Son, and the Holy Spirit still with us. God comforting us with hope of eternity if we continue in faith in him. Let also understand why is John the Baptist consider Elijah because he is the fore runner of Jesus, the one that would come preaching repentance of sin. John Baptist the one spoken of. Yet God gives both the fore runner and reality of vision to three disciples as Jesus talked with spirit world.

Now with the hope of faith, we can have hope eternal, we can have hope of Christ resurrection, we can know Christ lives because he lives in our hearts as believers when we ask him to come in. His Spirit living with our spirit to enable us to walk the Christian walk. The only spirit welcome in the heart of the believer, and only Spirit allowed in once saved, it is God living in us helping and guiding us, but not controlling us. All other spirits are evil and controlling, and that is something we need to understand do not play games with the unknown, stay in the world of living, knowing God's word came also to pass with the coming of Elijah and the coming Moses, who came to testify of the hope we have as believers of eternity, a promised city of hope. Moses not left out of eternal city only the promise land on earth. Elijah being the very Elijah who was carried away in fiery chariot into heaven. He climbed into chariot and was carried upward right before the Prophet Elisha very eyes. Elisha receive a double portion of the spirit that was on Elijah which was the Holy Spirit.

Dear Heavenly Father, give us the hope of eternity and hope of what we can not imagine of eternity, the hope of what we seek and yet our longing is for when our life is over and we have fulfilled your will according to your plan for our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.

2 Kings 2:8-15 KJV
8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
