Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 106:1-48 KJV
(1) Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
(2) Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?
(3) Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
(4) Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;
(5) That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.
(6) We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
(7) Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.
(8) Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.
(9) He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.
(10) And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
(11) And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.
(12) Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
(13) They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:
(14) But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
(15) And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
(16) They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.
(17) The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.
(18) And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.
(19) They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
(20) Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
(21) They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;
(22) Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
(23) Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
(24) Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
(25) But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.
(26) Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:
(27) To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.
(28) They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
(29) Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.
(30) Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.
(31) And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.
(32) They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
(33) Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
(34) They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:
(35) But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.
(36) And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.
(37) Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
(38) And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.
(39) Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.
(40) Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.
(41) And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.
(42) Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
(43) Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.
(44) Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:
(45) And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
(46) He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.
(47) Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.
(48) Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.

This Psalms begins with a lot of thankfulness toward God and for His mercy and continue in the history of Israel and their failure to worship or even to believe God. God is merciful not just to Israel but to the world for a lack of belief. Yet there is a day coming his mercy will not prevent his wrath. Israel found themselves going into exile despite those that obeyed and feared God. Israel had become corrupt despite the power of God. God does not control people, beyond their call on their life. Our God being great because of His mercy and allowing us choices, but within those choices when evil begins to rise because of our choice to rebel, it only means God wrath is upon his people. That God can and will use plagues and storms to cause harm to his people. God sent Israel into exile because of their disobedience. What had God done for them but take them through the wilderness to the promise land. There was a shorter route then the one Moses took to the promise land but the wilderness was to teach the people about who He was. Despite the cloud by day and fire by night, the red sea experience of the waves separating so they could cross through, the provision of water and food, God people still rebelled against him.

If we can only imagine God’s people rebelling against God, then what will God people of our generation do in our world. We look for the evidence of God and yet we fail to see the evidence. A few weeks ago I said one had to go out in the wood to see the works of God if one was in the city, but failing to see the works of God in each creation of humanity. God created us all and our uniqueness. Though not all glorify God every human being is created by the living true God. Israel was not the only one’s subject to God but they were chosen for a purpose to bring the promise of His Son Jesus into the world. He chose a holy people to bring his son into, yet their holiness was not because of their purity of a sinless life but choosing to believe in God. God was demonstrating through Jesus one more time His power at the time of the cross to enable those at the cross to believe and pass the word on. To begin the gathering the believers together through His works of miracles, and teaching/preaching. Yet God’s people continue to rebel against a living God they believe so diligently in. Our human nature created to make choice and yet we still make choices of rebellion.

Rebellion is total disobedience to God. Yet man continues to call on God despite their rebellion and God listens and God punishes for their rebellion for correction and then brings them through the wilderness to see if they still have faith to continue onward with Him. God brings Israel through exile back home, only to still not allow them to rule slowly on their own. Bring them together to bring His salvation to the world. Yet they rejected the promise until He rose in victory. Our rebellion is about putting aside our unbelief, with each correction. God taking our rebellion and showing us our own weakness to stray with His power in our life. Many people rebel, but it does not mean they can not repent, that they can not turn around and believe. Our lack of faith is only to help others that are alienated from God. Our unfaithfulness to God only to help those to know God is still there for the man that repents. To know there times of God’s people gathering together and their times of separation to gather other people in. To give the heathens a chance to know the power of God. Just because you without others of faith around you, does not mean God power is still not in your life. Heathen can not change without seeing the power of God in your life. A taste of God through his word, through the power of prayer and miracles. Their rebellious nature to desire to believe only to fall once more away. The heathens that come to ask you to pray, only to turn away once more when all is well once again. You are Moses to the heathens as a believer. You are in the wilderness to lead them out of bondage of sin. You are to lead them to Jesus, and God will do the rest.

Dear Heavenly Father bring us home to you, as you gather the heathens to know you and your power. To know the truth of your word as in the days of old. To know your power despite our own rebellious nature to sin. Teach us obedience and faith in dry desert land so when we are home we will not depart from your ways. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Romans 5:19-21 KJV
(19) For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
(20) Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
(21) That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
